"The three members of TMZ’s new Washington, D.C., bureau arrived at Capitol Hill last Monday...."

"The celebrity-gossip outlet’s Washington operation had started off with a bang. The partial government shutdown had enraged TMZ founder Harvey Levin, who thought he might shame Congress back into session by publicizing how lawmakers were spending their recess while federal workers went without pay. The photos did not disappoint. There was a khaki-clad Lindsey Graham at Disney World, holding a bubble wand and boarding Space Mountain. There was Ted Cruz scrolling in his Economy Plus seat. There were members of Congress touring Edinburgh Castle while on a trip to Scotland. 'The reaction in D.C. was, "Oh, that’s just a codel,"' said Washington communications veteran Nu Wexler, referring to a congressional delegation. It wasn’t clear TMZ understood the distinction or if it cared...."

From "Washington Enters Its TMZ Era" (Intelligencer).

"Veterans are greeting the arrival of TMZ’s aggressively tabloid approach with a mix of curiosity and wariness. 'If they can expose scumbags who rape and abuse women, that would be a great public service,' said Axios CEO Jim VandeHei. 'If they just make a mockery of a widely mocked institution, that would be a shame. Let’s see the road they choose.'"

Okay- that’s it. I simply can’t support Lindsay Graham in the primary now. That furniture monger guy it is! 🤪…

My hunch when they announced this is that Harvey did it in retaliation for Fox News turning into a TMZ-like infotainment channel that kinda covers politics. They spend so much time showing clips of leftist shows and doing he said/she said that they don't have time to do actual, you know, news. Frankly, Harvey does this kind of thing better than Fox so he'll probably eat their lunch.

Gee, given Axios CEO Jim VandeHei‘s comment, I guess investigative journalism is outside of Axios’s wheelhouse and well beyond its capabilities.

The widely mocked institution is the one full of scumbags raping and abusing women. They are also raping and abusing taxpayer dollars.

Lindsey Graham with a bubble wand at Disney World seems like a deleted scene from "Doctor Strangelove."

"Codel" is another way of saying "congressional delegation." I guess that's clear from the context, though at first I wondered if it was something like a castle.

I was having trouble figuring out what "institution" VandeHei was talking about.

As if there is any need for a codel to Scotland. They were playing golf.

All well-deserved ridicule aside, Congresscritters should be spending a big chunk of their time in their districts. Reps should be doing what the Brits call constituency surgeries - meeting with the people they represent, hearing their problems, seeing what’s happening in their districts, etc. Senators should be meeting with the state governments that sent them, to get guidance for how to represent their states. Okay, I’m in a historical flashback on that one. But now that they’re directly elected, they need to do even more investigative travel in their states.

Spending time away from DC also forces the lobbyists to work harder and erodes some of their advantage. If I know I can catch my Rep at the Safeway, I don’t have to spend six figures on a law firm. CC, JSM

Top four articles on TMZ DC right now:

A Trump Administration counterterrorism official has reportedly been put on ice after she allegedly scammed her ex-boyfriend out of $40,000 during their 3-month romance

Congressmen and staffers aren't the only folks TMZ DC is hunting down on Capitol Hill ... we're also coming across reality TV personalities like "Love on The Spectrum" star Subodh Garg, who is on a search of his own.

Charlie bumped into Subodh and he told TMZ DC he's in town to talk to Congress about Autism Awareness Month ... and do some date scouting.

Congress may be throwing elbows on Capitol Hill ... but once the suits come off, some lawmakers are apparently more focused on jump shots than cheap shots!

Our TMZ DC crew caught up with Rep. Shomari Figures and a few other congressmen, including Georgia Rep. Rich McCormick, in the aftermath of the Congressional Basketball Game Tuesday night ... where Democrats and Republicans hit the court together in a rare display of bipartisan teamwork.

Rep. Troy Downing's trying to figure out if Grindr's inaugural event before the White House Correspondents' Dinner is all about meaty sausages. Yes, we mean that literally.

How stupid do you have to be do take this seriously? He's killing boats? He was removing mines at a slower-than-feasible rate before?

TMZ has its work cut out for them....

I have ordered the United States Navy to shoot and kill any boat, small boats though they may be (Their naval ships are ALL, 159 of them, at the bottom of the sea!), that is putting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. There is to be no hesitation. Additionally, our mine “sweepers” are clearing the Strait right now. I am hereby ordering that activity to continue, but at a tripled up level! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

Typical dishonest and brainless leftist.

Fed gov't gets shut down by Democrats, so he goes after Republicans.

If he actually wanted to "shame Congress into re-opening the gov't", he would have gone after Democrat Senators.

But that would require him to not be a worthless piece of shit, and that's a bridge too far

"Fox News poll finds a solid majority of voters say Trump lacks the mental soundness to be president"

That's cute. What the poll REALLY shows is that a majority of voters are too stupid to understand that, even if they were qualified to judge mental "soundness", they wouldn't be able to make any determination without being able to sit down with him. Else, why would psychiatrists even need offices?
That's a silly poll.
