From "Maine Gov. Janet Mills drops out of race to unseat Republican Sen. Susan Collins/The seat is critical to Democrats’ hopes of retaking the Senate. Graham Platner, an oyster farmer and Democrat, is likely to win the primary" (WaPo).
In the comments over there, somebody says "You can tell she's a Dem because she did the right thing" and somebody else says "How is quitting because you don’t have the money the 'right thing.' She did the 'only thing' she could have done."

Platner “sells” nearly all the oysters he farm to his mommy’s restaurant. It’s not as though he’d necessarily survive if he had to sell his product in the open market.
Oyster Boy is in way over his head now. Pass the popcorn!
That's not a bug. That's a feature.
Consider Collin being blessed with this character as her opponent.
If she'd been a Republican, she'd have gone on till the end, trashing Planter at every opportunity, and refusing to support him in the General. Maybe even running as a 3rd party to save her ego. Now that's the Republican way. Country over Party aka Loserville.
Hopefully, he'll beat Collins. She's been taking every chance to vote liberal/left and attack Trump.
The Progressives have stepped back and are seeking to put distance on the diversity shtick by getting an entitled white boy on the payroll, one that will take instruction and can pretend at being blue collar. Collins is pretty savvy, though - but she's old. We'll see. It'll be a test of Maine's demographic change, which has been on a downhill slide for a couple of decades now.
Mills is the apparent end of a Maine political dynasty, although the rest of her family were all Republicans. The Progressives pulled the plug on her, and left her high and dry.
In the end 100% of the democrats will support the Nazi. Because he's not Trump. That's what their party has devolved into. The not-Trump party.
To be fair, the tattoo only resembled a Nazi symbol because it *was* a Nazi symbol.
Graham Platner, an oyster farmer and Democrat, is likely to win the primary" (WaPo).
What did the oyster farmer say upon receiving his party’s nomination?
Awe, shucks.
Reddit is crawling with extremist leftists. It's a toxic left wing soup - filled with toxic grievance and manufactured hate and leftist grooming.
"You can tell she's a Dem because she did the right thing"
I am frequently surprised by how many folks on the left don't realize that the Democrats are far more ruthless politically than the Republicans. I bet these people believe that the recent ouster of Eric Swalwell was simply about accountability and it just so happened that these brave women came forward when they did. I think a lot of this head-in-the-sandism stems from a commonly held moral inferiority complex on the Left. And to deal with this, many people adopt the strategy of convincing themself that they are good people because of their political beliefs and their group membership with other people with these political beliefs. Hence they idealizing the motivations of people on the Left.
@maybee beat me to my point.
Do political parties, movements, interests, and candidates already have AI bots to support them in the comment sections? Or have humans become so robotic that they don't need them?
Platner's like Bernie Sanders in that he didn't have much in the way of real jobs before entering politics. There will be more of them. An internet posting history counts as a resume for partisans now. Just beware of what it actually contains.
Good for her. She recognized the handwriting on the wall and cleared the field for the fight against Collins. Mills can now retire with her dignity intact at the end of her term.
Collins was never much of an R.
"gspencer said...
Collins was never much of an R."
Yeah but she is good for what Republicans can expect from a State like Maine. We don't want to make the same mistake that the Dems did with Joe Manchin from West Virginia. The Supreme Court looks the way it does today because when it came down to it, Susan Collins voted the way she did.
The Republicans should nominate the ageless Barnabas Collins, the right honorable representative from Collinsport, Maine.
It would be DSCC and while they can fund in a competitive primary they usually don't especially in one like this. It's a lack of individual donor enthusiasm, and a face saving excuse for lousy polling.
Mills didn’t want to stand in the way of violent leftist lunatics getting their favorite Nazi. Who knows what they might have done to her if she stayed in. I honesty can’t blame her for putting her safety first.
But remember, Platner isn’t a Nazi. He only resembles one.
No middle ground on the left. It's all radical extremism/ all the time.
Kak-a-Bot(D) supports the radical extremist leftwing Nazi in the race.
There's a significant portion of the Maine electorate that is Bernie Sanders friendly. Hope it's not enough to beat Collins.
"You can tell she's a Dem because she did the right thing"
Oh, Lordie.
Democrats will vote for Platner just like they voted for Jay Jones.
Someone said that under Trump there would be Nazis in the Senate. I guess they'll be right.
J Scott - lol. Perfect - and accurate.
If Platner were a Republican with an SS tattoo, he’d’ve already been dubbed in the media as the “Oyster Cracker.”
Compilation of Democrats who sound JUST LIKE the Radical Extremist Leftist Assassin who tried to kill Trump in DC last week.
Democrats are better at politicking that the GOP.
I'll hand them that.
WaPo says Platner has “a tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol”. Is that in addition his tattoo which is a Nazi symbol?
Over on HotAir.com they claim Mills did Nazi it coming.
Mills is almost 80. The Nazi cum Communist is 41.
It’s fascinating that people seem to equate today’s Democrats with those of old. Today’s Democrats have tolerated Clinton’s sex addiction, rape and harassment, Obama’s racism, Biden’s grifting, dementia and plagiarism, Kamala’s stupidity and incompetence, Mamdani’s, AOC’s and Bernie’s Marxism, Omar’s anti-Americanism, etc., etc., etc. Platner was/is going to win the primary.
Amorality and incompetence are features, not bugs, for Democrat pols. What’s a little Nazism? Misogyny?
OMG, he had tattoo "resembling" a "Nazi Tattoo". What the fuck does that even mean "resembles"? And he said somethng on the internet 20 years OK. OMG OMG. The Horror.
More trivial pursuit. What are positions on the important issues and why are they right or wrong? But maybe voters in Maine are stupider than i think. "Hey i was gonna vote for Planter. Agreed with all his policy positions. But then i heard he had a tattoo. That was a deal breaker".

In just the two sentences you quoted, there's a remarkable amount of language meant to downplay any negative opinions about their chosen candidate. You really have to hand it to these objective reporters!
"Mills attempted to blunt Platner’s momentum [he's got the momentum -- go, team!] this spring by running ads bringing up controversy [hey, it's just a controversy, there are arguments on both sides] around deleted Reddit comments [they were deleted, why are you making such a big deal about it?] he made years ago [it was years ago, why are you making such a big deal about it?] downplaying the seriousness of sexual assault" [when he suggested the victims were asking for it, he was really just 'downplaying the seriousness,' get it?]."
"Mills argued that Republicans would make 'mincemeat' out of Graham in a general election, given his Reddit comments, and that a tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol [the tattoo of that exact symbol only 'resembled' one, why are you making such a big deal about it?], which he got covered up [he got it covered up as soon as it started causing trouble for him, why are you making such a big deal about it?], will likely provide fodder for attacks [there's nothing objectively wrong about any of this, right? it's just 'fodder for attacks']."
Say what you want about the Washington Post, only high-level journalists can manipulate language this effectively.
Hes a commie cop hating hamas bro right up your ally billy
The only thing Mainers hate more than someone who tries to be better than them is someone who was not born in Maine. Platner has the rich kid who wants to rule you vibes, but he wears the bean shirt well.
Sitting governor doesn't have the money to continue? If she's that bad, she'd attract money to move her to another job.
@Wince: "...The Republicans should nominate the ageless Barnabas Collins, the right honorable representative from Collinsport, Maine. ..."
Change My Mind: Susan Collins is just Barnabas in drag
As Sunny asks on X , will the Bulwark crowd and the rest of the (supposedly) Principled Republicans support Collins or the misogynist with the Nazi tattoos?
Sure, calling him a nazi and a sexist is fine, but pointing out that he describes himself as a communist is apparently not kosher for attacking your Democrat political rival. A communist from Hotchkiss, no less.
So he’s a communist Nazi? This must be what the Democrats mean by bipartisan.
Planter in captured assuring everyone that he is not a secret nazi.
He is also not a witch
I can forgive a young man in the military getting a stupid tattoo. But then he became a communist.
He’s a communist who hates Jews. He’s got RC’s vote.
Planter wants to put people on trains
> Planter wants to put people on trains
The people want to put him on a helicopter
