"He likes to do whatever I want him to do.... He is always looking at me and smiling.... I wanted him to dig, and he just did exactly what I told him to do."

Said Barbara Collins, quoted in "Woman, 96, enlists 150-pound dog to plant spring flowers: She points, he digs/A video of Barbara Collins and Chewy gardening together has amassed millions of views on social media" (WaPo)(gift link, so you can see the pictures of the tiny old woman with the gigantic dogs).

This is another one of those mainstream media reports on what's in social media. Here's Chewy's TikTok,  account, with much better coverage of the old lady and what is her granddaughter's dog.

Sample video:

He knows exactly what she's saying 🥹❤️

Chewy has been covered by mainstream media before. Here's Newsweek 2 years ago: "Moment Dog Realizes Kids Are Going on Vacation Without Him: 'His Eyes.'"

Great video, but the story begs the question, if the MSM can get a story this widely known wrong, what is the MSM getting right?

So in the future when the garden is in full bloom and she points with pride to her favorite flowers, then what happens?

I am reminded me of the beautiful allium Meade planted. I was inspired and did the same.

Or she is a tiny person.

Next, we'll hear how Chewy is trained further and used to help in spleen removal. He'll avoid the liver by smell.

They beg. They pant. Do dogs smile?

This one was nice, but feels a professional made it.

Want a viral video?

When nobody is home, Grandma should have "Chewy" dig a big hole roughly her own height and fill it up with loose dirt. Then hide in the attic and watch how the family reacts.

Is chewy going to be forced to dig Grandma's grave before they plant her?

I decided to get an X account because so many journalists and commentators build an entire article based on posts they pull from X. If that's where the news is, why not just go there? What do we need WaPo for?

Maybe I'll get a newfie when i'm 90, so I won't have to out live another dog.

I've never seen a Newfie with this coloration, I thought they were mostly just mono-colors black and dark brown. Those speckles on his forelegs made me think a spaniel was involved. But now I see this is just color variation of the breed, and the breed is related to Irish water spaniels.

It's a lot easier to click around on the intertubes than to actually go out and run down stories. Plus (just ask Nick Shirley), when you do that, you make your progressive buddies angry.

they JUST had a vet on the noon news, telling (beggin) people NOT to let their dogs eat (or play with) tulip or daffydill (sic) bulbs, because apparently they are poisonous to doggies

My job here is done.

Out of a desire to try and learn something factual about the Iran situatoin, I tried to watch CBS news the other day, and was amazed that several minutes were spent on social media "reporting" about pure candyfloss items. Guess I'm good for another decade or so of not watching mainstream media.
