"Both John and Ken ran great races, but not good enough. Now, this one, must be PERFECT!"

"My Endorsements within the Republican Party have been virtually insurmountable! It is such an honor to realize and say that almost everyone I Endorse WINS, and wins by a lot, especially in Texas! I will be making my Endorsement soon, and will be asking the candidate that I don’t Endorse to immediately DROP OUT OF THE RACE! Is that fair? We must win in November!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP."

At Truth Social, this afternoon, the day after the Texas primary, where neither John Cornyn nor Ken Paxton got enough votes to avoid a runoff.

I assume that Trump is talking to both men and stating the condition that he won't endorse them unless they promise they'll drop out if he picks the other guy.

And I assume Trump's main concern is simply that a Republican win, but is that Cornyn or Paxton? I'll withhold my opinion. Here's a poll:

Which Republican is more likely to beat Talarico in the Texas Senate race?

Trump should endorse Talarico, as kind of a TDS experiment.

Third option - either one. Doesn't matter. Both. Who's Talarico?

Trump is such a dumb fuck. He brags about wonning primaries for loser candidates like Dr. Oz and Hershall Walker.

Do you remember when the Dens were promoting Trump MAGA candidate specifically because they know those losers will get snoke ld in the general? Pepperidge Farms remembers. Trump has Biden-brain. He doesn't remember shit.

I voted JC here in TX.
KP has a 20% chance of losing a general. JC has zero percent chance of losing.
My 2 cents.

I understand that Cornym is massively violating Reagan’s 11th commandment. He’s just another Democrat pretending to be a Republican to fraudulently win election in a red state.

Also - I am disappointed by how many R/C types tell me KP's marriage infidelity does not matter. What?

Is Thune is holding SAVE Act hostage for Trump endorsement of Cornyn. Is Trump requiring both of them to pass SAVE Act for his endorsement?

Trump should await passage before any endorsement.

Grok, what's the difference to a MAGA voter?
"In summary, to a MAGA voter, Paxton represents the anti-establishment energy and unwavering Trump loyalty they crave, while Cornyn embodies the "swamp" they want to drain—reliable on some GOP issues but too willing to compromise."

Endorse Paxton.

Talarico makes Mayor Pete look like the Great Santini. This is a GOP hold for Cornyn or Paxton

Grok:
"From 2016 to 2024 (completed election cycles), Donald Trump made approximately 900 endorsements. His endorsed candidates won 648 out of 684 primaries (95%) and 680 out of 845 general elections (80%)."

The Battleswarm guy is a Paxton fan and Thune is a longtime incumbent. Based on little more than those two things, I am leaning towards Paxton. But I’m not a Texan, so my preferences don’t matter.

So he’s doing a Solomonic baby split. Whichever guy says he’ll drop out for the good of the party, that’s the guy he’ll endorse. CC, JSM

Oops, Cornyn.

gilbar said...

well, John Cornyn was interviewed by Kim Strassel,
and in the interview he stated that
a) If Paxton won the primary.. The dems would win the election
b) If Paxton won the primary.. Cornyn would vote democrat
c) If Paxton won the primary.. Cornyn would campaign for the dems
d) IF Cornyn the election.. Cornyn would caucus with the dems

seemed pretty clear choice to me

Both will agree. If Trump can't art-of-the-deal this one....

But perhaps secretly he wants the one with the greater fighting spirit and the REFUSAL to promise to drop out is the indication that he's the right kind of guy.

Who knows what commitments Trump can extract from Cornyn in this deal?

"Who knows what commitments Trump can extract from Cornyn in this deal?"

Cornyn is the incumbent, so he votes in the Senate now. Trump could extract a commitment to support the war in Iran, etc etc.

Cornyn has been responsible for a lot of RINO treachery with Thune and McConnell, and a lot of RINO squishery when spine was preferable. These are the kinds of people that are worse than Progressives, because they're pretenders to party loyalty, thinking voters are too stupid to see that this kind of loyalty is not to conservatism, but to preserving their political longevity.

There's no way I could vote for him, he's the worst kind of sychophant. He needs to be expelled as a message to the other spineless ward heelers.

Jaq-n-Kak-n-Tim-ImTay - I'm pretty sure nobody is interested in going back and researching your rich and fascinating history to understand your personal growth story. A very famous man once shouted something provocative in a bistro, then said: 'See? Nobody Cares', when nobody reacted. I think we're pretty much all in that bistro.

Cornyn sabotaged Trump throughout his first term, and made it clear he would rather have a Democrat in office than vote for his fellow Republican. Paxton pretty much agrees with 90 percent of what Coryn SUPPOSEDLY believes in. Yet, cornyn will campaign for the Democrat.

I hope Texans R's aren't stupid and will vote out Cornyn but any party that keeps nominating Senators like Mitt Romney, Mitch McConnell or Miss Lindsey is hopeless.

Well, if Talarico has a splitting maul, it's pointless.

Greg The Class Traitor said...

The answer is Paxton, because Cornyn isn't actually a Republican

gadfly said...

Sen. John Cornyn< stood before TV cameras in Houston and issued a warning to Ken Paxton, the man threatening to take the seat he’s held for nearly two dozen years: Things were about to get a whole lot uglier.

“After we get through with the attorney general” in a potential runoff, Cornyn said, “he’s going to be unelectable.”

Cornyn and his allies had already poured tens of millions of dollars in attack ads accusing the three-term state attorney general of corruption and personal enrichment. Cornyn’s closing message, in the final days of the primary, blasts Paxton for infidelity, accusing him of “sleeping around with a married mother of seven,” a claim CNN has not verified.

Ken Paxton's campaign spent approximately $24 million on the Texas Senate primary race. And neither could win 50% of the GOP vote.

Meanwhile vote totals for democrats Talarico and Crockett exceeded 1.5 million - a record. So Talarico will be the next Senator for the state of Texas in 2027.

The amazing thing is that Talarico is even more of a freak the Crockett.

Kudos to the GOP opposition researchers who collected all the insane Talarico tweets and had them ready to go once he won the Dem primary
