"Aaron Spencer, who won the Lonoke County [Arkansas] primary race on Tuesday, is accused of shooting the man who allegedly sexually assaulted his 14-year-old daughter."

"He’s awaiting trial for murder. His town wants him to be sheriff" (London Times).
In the early hours of October 8, 2024, Spencer awoke to find his daughter missing from their home. His wife called 911 while he drove around looking for her. He spotted his child in the passenger seat of Fosler’s truck, followed the vehicle and forced it off the highway. After both men exited their cars, Spencer shot and killed him, court records allege. Prosecutors say Spencer shot Fosler 15 times and then “pistol-whipped” him in the face. Court records say he then called 911, stating: “Michael Fosler is f***ing dead on the side of the road for trying to kidnap my daughter. I had no choice.”

Well, Althouse, are you starting to understand real people yet? (Meaning not the kind that are non-STEM professors or Democrat politicians or Soros DAs or Soros judges and/or dwell in Madison.)

FWIW it doesn’t seem as though the citizenry of Lonoke County think he did anything wrong.

From the legal side, I understand the argument. No mention of a weapon, went far beyond self defense, etc.

But as a father . . . . I just don't know what I would do if I was placed on a jury.

Apparently Fosler had a bad enough local rep that Spencer knew 911 would recognize the name.

Jeez, you can use deadly force to stop imminent sexual violation. And the ‘imminent’ part here is that it’s your last chance to act before this guy disappears with the girl. Even calling 911 and reporting his location isn’t a great option in a rural area - who knows what the police response time will be.

I wonder if Sarah Sanders has the power of pre-conviction pardon? Or if the state AG can take over the prosecution as a sensitive political matter (because of the defendant’s candidacy) and then dismiss it?

In so much of the south, everyone in the criminal justice system has lost discretion. CC, JSM

I'd jury nullify. I get emotional sometimes, and I've heard that emotions are as valuable as reason.

He should have brought more ammo.

The article doesn't make it clear that the 67 year old Fosler had *previously* been charged with sexually assaulting the 13 yo. That's why he was out on bond.

Not sure how he pulled off getting her out of the house without her consent.

The famous Utah girl that was kidnapped by some self-proclaimed prophet about 15 years ago didn’t resist or cry out because he threatened to kill her family. You never know what a kid is going to do. Or heck, an adult. CC, JSM

Seems like the kind of thing a reporter would think of including in the story.

"...The girl’s mother said on Facebook that there was an active protective order against Fosler as he was accused of stalking and raping her daughter months before the October 2024 shooting. Further, Lonoke County police confirmed Fosler’s July 2024 arrest for internet stalking of a child and sexual assault....."

Justifiable homicide most likely, or maybe jury nullification. After he ran him off the road, Fosler allegedly tried to grab the daughter to keep her from exiting his vehicle. I bet they try to drag out the trial process to disqualify him.

Well I approve of the action, I don't believe in wasting ammo. I believe 12 fewer rounds would've done the trick.

I do. I’d vote for him as sheriff. Then governor.

It looks the world didn't lose much by Mr. Fosler leaving it. Perhaps he can get jury nullification or it that doesn't work, argue too many people are in prison. Works in DC.

I don't know if he should be sheriff, but he should definitely be released and his case dismissed with prejudice. A clear case of Understandable Homicide.

Per Apple Maps, Lonoke County is about 25 miles outside Little Rock. Per Wikipedia, it’s 83% white and 75% Republican. But like many ruburbs, I bet those 25% Democrats are city slickers attracted by the low prices and taxes, but wanting to bring their blue-city ways with them. They’re probably already doing a Gramscian march up the lower level positions in the schools, law enforcement, and other county functions. And for whatever reason the R officials are afraid of looking too bumpkinish. Probably lots of bad press in the LR media too. Just can’t let the people rule themselves….CC, JSM

Pedo perversions and rape-rape, as well as rape, are a hate crime with enhanced criminal culpability garnering planned perphood (PP) or Capitol punishment.

Also the molester may have been trying to take her away to kill the chief witness against him. That makes it defense of another from imminent death. You don’t know what weapons the guy has in the car. You don’t know if he’ll drive off a bridge in what he perceives as a Romeo and Juliet tragic ending. Or heck he can just strangle the poor thing. And are you going to bet your daughter’s life on your ability to beat this guy in a fistfight? The perv doesn’t even have to beat you up - just stun you long enough to get back in the truck and drive away.

The prosecution will use the high volume of fire and the pistol whipping as evidence of anger. Ok, well, you can be both angry and justified. And it’s hard to say the dad was bent on revenge, when there was a new crime taking place in front of him. Can’t generally avenge yourself until the injury is done. CC, JSM

The killing of Foster by the victim's father was a better way to
A) Ensure justice
B) Prevent Foster from re-offending
C) Deter others
D) Spark joy in people the world over
than putting him in prison would have been.

Note that this is reported in the London Times, and the UK establishment is all in on raping working class teenagers and adolescents.

And john mosby is 100% correct in his analysis.

I'm sole single father of a daughter who just turned 15. The law increasingly allows lethal force not only for personal self defense, but also for others in mortal danger, which this girl obviously was.

I understand the father completely. My carry is a 6-chamber snub-nose (rifled) revolver with three .45 cal 230 gr JHP, alternating with two 3-inch .410 shot-shells with 8-10 pellets of #4 Buck [= .243 cal].

Perp would not have had his "junk" or his face intact at the end, plus 2 rounds COM and one forehead.

I lived in Arkansas for 5 years, and know Lonoke County well. Friends there. I doubt you could put a jury together there who'd not heave this thing in under half an hour.

As a piece of trivia, Paula Jones (of Clinton fame) was known as the easiest "lay" in all Lonoke County by age 16. Her reputation expanded rapidly to a much wider area, and nobody was at all surprised that the future governor wandered by "ta fahnd out if'n them rumors was true."

"Prosecutors say Spencer shot Fosler 15 times and then “pistol-whipped” him in the face."

I wonder how they reached that conclusion. It doesn't sound like there were any cops present, and if he actually shot him 15 times, as opposed to merely shooting at him 15 times, I would think pistol-whipping would be superfluous.

A small County in Arkansas has an almost anecdotal story (enraged father kills pervert who kidnapped and assaulted his minor daughter) and our hostess goes to the London Times for their "coverage"? His successful campaign, 53% of vote against an incumbent promised; " to protect children from sexual violence, calling for the creation of an investigative unit dedicated to child sexual abuse, grooming and domestic violence.
“For the price of a lawn mower, you can get out of jail after committing a sexual crime against a child. I think that’s absolutely ridiculous,” Spencer told Little Rock television station KATV, a clip that he’s promoted on his campaign Facebook page."

Bart Hall,

As someone who has had more than the average amount of self-defense training, though fortunately I have never needed to fire a round in anger, I tell you in all seriousness: find some gullible person you can sell The Judge to, and buy yourself a real handgun for self-defense.

The purpose of The Judge is for home defense indoors, say in a house where multiple people live or in an apartment building, places where you don't want bullets going through walls.

So I had a theory that maybe Lonoke County, as a collar county of LR, might have had some police shootings of wandering urbanites in the recent past, making the authorities very scrupulous about prosecuting every killing. A Bing search did not bear my theory out, but did generate a couple of interesting incidents:

June 23, 2021 – Traffic stop incident
A Lonoke County sheriff’s deputy, Sgt. Michael Davis, shot and killed 17-year-old Hunter Brittain of McRae during a traffic stop at Mahoney’s Paint & Body Shop on Arkansas 89 in Cabot KATV. The shooting occurred early in the morning, and Brittain was taken to a hospital in North Little Rock where he died. Brittain was white, as was the deputy. Sgt Davis was convicted of negligent homicide. https://www.5newsonline.com/article/news/crime/michael-davis-sentenced-for-death-of-hunter-brittain/527-dd6da949-cc89-41b4-abc8-5db48a9ee351

February 20, 2021 – McDonald’s parking lot incident
Two Lonoke police officers responded to a vehicle linked to a North Carolina child abduction case. The driver, William Robert Ice, 38, complied with orders to exit but then shot one officer, critically wounding him. The second officer returned fire, and Ice fled. The 14-year-old female passenger was later identified as a victim in the abduction case. Ice, who was white, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. https://www.wpxi.com/news/top-stories/man-wanted-mercer-co-found-dead-after-allegedly-shooting-police-officer-arkansas/KP2KVDFDJBGEDIBIYHR7GWG32Y/

I assume both cases were well known to everyone in the county. So the dad in the instant case knew about a perv jumping out of his vehicle and shooting at cops. Probably increased his sense that danger was imminent. And the county law enforcement authorities remember having to prosecute and convict one of their own for a questionable roadside shooting. Probably increasing their sense that this damn civilian had better go through all the same stations of the cross. CC, JSM

Bob Boyd,

Actually the real purpose of The Judge is to help Taurus sell some more product that is lacking a real purpose.

As a piece of marketing, this was brilliant; as a bit of technology I find it extremely lacking.

Marcus Bressler said...

Bravo for the dad. Does he have a defense fund I can contribute to?

Bart Hall (Kansas, USA) said...

@ Kirk Parker

My father worked for Winchester. We got unlimited range tie and free ammo. Revolvers are simpler and better in real life. Heck, my amply-endowed mother carried a SW-32 between her "girls", and she was a damned good shot out to 15 yards, even moving.

The Taurus is exactly the carry gun I want, because my personal safety is built around generally staying out of cities, and most especially away from areas infested with semi-feral fatherless "youth" of a particular ethic persuasion.

At home it's chambered as mentioned, and walking around the farm it's all .410 full of #7 -- fantastic snake gun. At home, it's backed up by a "seriously circumcised" 20-ga pump full of #0 buck. Said daughter knows where the kill-funnels are and has he own solid exfil plan.

Your needs might be different.

RCOCEAN II said...

I'd say three shots are usually sufficient. Two to bring him down, one for the head. Maybe the "I was outta control and full of rage" (aka not premediated) works better when you fire 15.

RCOCEAN II said...

If Paula Jones was an "Easy Lay" at 16, it doesn't mean the Governor of Arkansas gets to bring her to his office, and tell her to "Kiss it". Seems obvious to me. Why you'd run interference for a scumbag is beyond me. Maybe Clinton gave you a big tip.
