"I had not spent a lot of my life hanging out with Republicans, and what I imagined they were talking about was exactly the opposite."

"Now I'm in an administration surrounded by immensely talented people who are immensely idealistic. I always imagined Republicans would get together thinking about how to screw the poor and reduce taxes on the rich, but they're actually narrowly focused on how do we solve these big problems and make our country work. The level of idealism that I see at every level in the White House and in my agency is inspiring. And then the level of capability—the competence of the people I'm surrounded with...."

And a bit earlier in the conversation: "My father hated partisanship because he thought it was dishonest. He always told us you should vote for the man, not the party.... I grew up in a Democratic Party that was very anti-NAFTA. It was against working people and labor unions. Then Trump said that he was anti-NAFTA. All of a sudden, the Democratic Party was pro-NAFTA. And that's what turned my head the first time. Then, when Trump questioned vaccines during the 2016 election. The Democratic Party had that skepticism and those concerns spread evenly across the party. My uncle Ted Kennedy was very much on the side of medical freedom. It was evenly spread. But as soon as Trump said that, it became part of the dogma of that party. And then, when I ran, one of the things I ran against was the Ukraine war. Democrats were always the anti-war party. But as soon as Trump questioned that war, they became the pro-war party. They invited the CIA director to speak at the Democratic convention.... The party's only agenda is 'we hate Trump,' and anything he says, we're going to do the opposite of it. And it makes me very sad for the party."

i happened to listen to the 4pm "news" on NPR this afternoon..
(i was wondering about tomorrow's snow)
and THIS was their headline item

https://www.npr.org/2026/02/27/nx-s1-5726422/why-is-maha-mad-at-trump

it turns out, according to NPR, that Trump HATES Kennedy's people..
and Kennedy's people HATE Trump.

it MUST BE True.. Why would NPR make things up that sound bad for the President of the United States?

They aren't anti-Trump.

They are anti anyone else having power and they are anti not being able to steal money from Americans for their bureaucracy and NGO graft.

Its interesting that Trump appointed 2 well known Democrats to high adminstration posts and Biden and Obama rarely appointed any Republicans to anything. Mitt Romney, supposedly, was really upset that Joe Biden didnt want to be his close friend.

Hopefully, some D's will see the light and start fighting against the D power elite which want 100 percent compliance.

Well, what else would you expect from a fascist dictator?

No. More. Wars.

Build more housing.
Jail time for those who employ illegal laborers.
Curry favor with younger voters, not ever entitled boomers.
Means test social security,

Plenty for politicians of either party to run on...

Dump Israel already.

Leave your hellhole. We'll get you up on skates blowing young hockey players yet. RFK Jr can teach sweety meady about felching. He's always game if you give him a new toy to play with. Those robot dogs are cute, huh?

My determinedly apolitical eldest son thinks the Democrats of our acquaintance don’t really believe the crazy shit they say they believe. Because….how could any sane intelligent person believe such things?

I understand why he might think this, but he’s underestimating the cognitively debilitating effect of ten years of hysteria.

How can any sane intelligent person lie so convincingly?

It was interesting to hear RFK Jr. saying that blue states aren't reforming SNAP but are still allowing it to be used for sodas. And just generally those states are rejecting reforms in health care which come from Trump even if the reforms come via RFK Jr. with whom they used to work and even if they are reforms which the blue state Dems once supported.

RFK Jr. attributed some of this madness to algorithms on social media. If you click on a negative story or comment, algorithms instantly feed sidebars with more negativity. I've seen that. And then you drift toward hatred for the people in the stories or the people who are the audience for the nasty stories about Republicans. I had to resolve not to read any sidebars to get my mind back. In a ral story there's fact's and cause and effect. In algorithm-driven, AI-written sidebars there's just a sort of atmosphere built up by incomprehensible but scary and dangerous activities as there is in a horror movie. One day I guess we'll definitely recognize what is now scaring us as just ridiculous special effects, like Godzilla on the Empire State building. That day can't come too soon.

Some say Democrats pretend they don't understand what Republicans are arguing, but I think a lot of them just don't understand things like science and facts and patriotism.

They're collectivists. They think that a lot of people believing something-anything (muh "consensus") is more demonstrative of truth than observable/verifiable facts that contradict that "consensus".

Is the point of the various Trump cabinet workout videos to get every gym rat and personal trainer on the internet to goof on them? Because that seems to be what’s happening.

I’d love to hear the flip side of that. The mean spirited zealotry of the hard left. Not dedicated to any greater goo. Only dedicated to amassing power and punishing the other side.

Yes, and I don't remember a lot of blue-haired trolloids with metal in their faces, either. If someone were trying to destroy our country by damaging its citizens, and that attack was focused on the children, because they are the most vulnerable, this is exactly what it would look like.
