"We have got children in Minnesota hiding in their houses, afraid to go outside. Many of us grew up reading that story of Anne Frank. Somebody's going to write that children's story about Minnesota."

Said Tim Walz, quoted in "Tim Walz condemned for comparing Minnesota children to Anne Frank" (USA Today).

I suppose the condemnation is about equating what happened to Anne Frank to what is happening to the deportees, but I'd like to throw in a little additional condemnation for not knowing enough about Anne Frank's writing. She wasn't a person with a story to tell. It was "The Diary of a Young Girl." Very little of the book is about the larger political drama that forced her to hide indoors. It's about her life as a young girl, and we, the readers, bring the larger context of the Nazis and how she was captured and died. That story is not in her book, which is about the inward life of a young girl. Anne Frank was an excellent writer, and the world lost her. I hope there's a similarly excellent writer enduring the present-day ordeal, but literary art is something beyond having a good story to tell.

Does Tim Walz even know the book he calls a "children's story"? Anne Frank was 13 to 15 years old when she wrote her diary, and much of it is about emerging sexual feelings — especially the "Definitive Edition." It’s quite striking: "Until I was eleven or twelve, I didn't realize there was a second set of labia on the inside, since you couldn't see them. Moreover, I thought the little tube you use to urinate out of was uninteresting.... When you're standing up, all you see from the front is hair. Between the outer labia are the inner ones... The entrance to the vagina is hidden between them.... The clitoris.... is particularly sensitive."

See "Which Version of The Diary of Anne Frank Is Best?" (Redeemed Reader): "The Definitive Edition includes a section in which she decides 'losing your virtue doesn’t matter' under the right circumstances (Thursday, March 2, 1944). Both editions imply that she is chafing under their circumstances and that both sets of parents disapprove of the time she and Peter spend together in Peter’s room; the diary implies that not much more than kissing is happening.... Obviously, there’s nowhere in public for Anne and Peter to go on dates; just as obvious, though, is that two young people in love are playing with fire to spend lots of unchaperoned time in a person’s bedroom."

No modern leftist is going to write like Anne did because, at the most basic level, she wrote what she knew. That would be far too limiting for all journalists and most novelists.

Because he acts like an overstimulated theatre kid my take on Walz is that his frame of reference is a high school play about Anne Frank and he might not even realize she was a real girl. Certainly he is completely ignorant that the socialists like him are the bad guys and she is an innocent child and the mob eventually triumphs over the victim by the same tactics leftists employ in MN.

“That is what I mean when I say I am going to kill Donald Trump,” he ended.

I've lived in Cambridge MA and San Francisco. Minneapolis is quite similar politically now. It used to be that ordinary people could afford a house in town. Not any more, so most of them moved to the suburbs or even further out. They still vote the same way.

Alan from Whittier is correct about the similarities between Mpls and San Francisco. Minnesota as a whole behaves quite similarly to Washington state or Illinois - the metro area has the raw majority of the population, while the rest of the state is conservative, so the metro area dominates. Minnesota can and does elect Republican Congresscritters, but the GOP has not been able to elect anyone to statewide office in 20 years. Minnesota is likely to lose a congressional seat following the 2030 census; currently the delegation is split 50-50. It's going to be a huge battle when the lines are redrawn.

I think I won't psychoanalyze the people here, not right now, but you remember how all the kids in Lake Wobegon were above average? Well, that's white people in Minnesota (the people I grew up with; I'm not married to one though). BUT they ALL think they're really smart. And look at that. Walz was apparently funneling money in welfare fraud schemes. So is the entire democrat party in Minnesota, and the only person that got in their way was Hortman...

I'm curious about who the Minnesota GOP will nominate for governor in 2026. In my opinion, Chris Madel was the strongest candidate. He recently withdrew from the race, stating he could not support the national GOP's "stated retribution on the citizens of our state," nor count himself a member of a party that would pursue such an approach.

Madel came across as someone who could have appealed to centrist DFL voters and bridge divides.

With his exit, the Republican field now includes a crowded group of contenders, such as: House Speaker Lisa Demuth,
State Rep. Kristin Robbins, Dr. Scott Jensen (the 2022 GOP nominee who lost to Walz), Businessman Kendall Qualls and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.

If you see the governor's role as leading efforts to make Minnesota a great state for all Minnesotans, it's disheartening that the most compelling or qualifying statement from any Republican candidate so far came during Madel's withdrawal announcement.

Any Minnesota residents (or those following closely) want to weigh in on the remaining GOP field? What are your thoughts on the top contenders' chances, strengths, or weaknesses in the August primary?

Well, Republicans have a strong chance Kak if all the illegal votes, fraudulent votes, etc. are removed from Minnesota.

But Minnesota refused to vote for Reagan, so they really, really like their communism there. Isn't the state Democrat party actually named something like the Labor party?

Maybe anyone sane will be so disgusted at the Walz and Democrat raping of the treasury for Somalis that there will be a big bashlash against Democrats running things.

Hah, who are we kidding? It will take a few tens of thousands more rapes and murders before Democrats in Minnesota really realize just how much their party hates Americans, even the ones who vote for them.

Mr. D said…
One thing I would caution people about, though - the notion that Walz had anything to do with the murder of Melissa Hortman and her husband is preposterous. Hortman was on the team and her votes in the legislature were taking one for the team.

Lots of assassins have been nut cases, maybe most of them. The fact that you can believably say: "He's just a nut case" is highly qualifying for the job.

Getting a "nut case" to do your killing is the best strategy. You often don't even need to tell them or pay them. You just convince them it's a good idea, and/or there is glory in it. Convince them it needs done for some crazy conspiracy reason. Then untraceably, give them support, get some others to reinforce the idea, and just let them go like a drone. This is the reliably unprovable suspicion in the assassinations of JFK, RFK, MLK, both attempts on Trump, and many more.

The beauty of using a nut is nobody can be sure if it was you behind it or he was just nuts, even if he tells people it was you. Genius or obvious?

Please. You never heard of Chris Madel before yesterday and if you lived here, which you obviously do not, you wouldn’t have voted for him anyway.

In June 2025, during a one-day special legislative session to complete the state budget, Hortman voted with Republicans in favor of legislation removing undocumented adult immigrants from eligibility for MinnesotaCare as part of a negotiated compromise between the GOP and the DFL to pass a budget. She was the only DFL member of the House to support the provision, which passed by a single vote.[22]" It only takes one ADF member pissed off to make an insane comment about Horton's vote to set off a crazy man to assassinate her. Just look at the crazy shit Waltz rhetoric has set off.

I personally do not think that Walz walked up to the guy and said anything like "Here's ten grand! I want you to get rid of that Horton bitch!"

No, I bet that Walz said something like "Will no one rid me of this meddlesome wench!" or words like that, probably even rhetorically, and this guy took action, and Walz has kept quiet ever since as he knows he's a bit culpable.

When a POTUS shares this sort of shit on his social network, his followers believe it as it it were the gospel.

“MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - President Trump shared a video claiming that Tim Walz was responsible for the killing of Minnesota lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, a conspiracy theory that has been debunked several times since the fatal Minnesota lawmaker shootings in June 2025.

Minnesota DFL lawmakers respond to debunked conspiracy theories

Minnesota Governor Walz responded to self-proclaimed independent journalist Nick Shirley after he shared a Truth Social post from President Trump.

The post referenced an unfounded speculation that Hortman was killed in response to a vote that cut healthcare benefits for undocumented immigrants. Another DFL lawmaker, Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman, was shot despite casting the opposite vote. Hortman reluctantly voted for the healthcare cuts as part of an agreement to pass the budget bill.”

Inga just buries her side's bad behavior as quickly as possible and just denies it ever happened.

You could mention Democrats invading a church and screaming to young children that they are going to hell because they have a Pastor who supports deporting. Inga will be like "Never happened! Trump bad!" Point out the Democrat Virginia Attorney General who wants to kill the children of his Republican political opponent; Inga will pretend nothing is wrong. Same with this new Ohio Democrat guy. Boelter going radio silent -- Inga refuses to consider it.

But she's all about "Trump faked the assassination attempt in Butler!" Jessie Smollett couldn't possibly have lied, because "No one on the left would ever, could ever, do anything wrong-- Ever!"

Very Drago-esq! Be careful Vance, Drago is taking you over your soul. Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to have called upon the spirt of Drago when you were dabbling with necromancy?

And here goes Inga, not denying or claiming I am wrong with my assessment of what she believes. Just trying to say I am acting like Drago.

I don't think I am. But so what? Whether Drago's spirit has influenced my necromantic soul or whatever, the facts are that Inga believes Jessie Smollet and she believes Trump faked an assassination attempt against himself.

And she cannot criticize or disagree with all of the leftists all over calling for murder and violence. All she can do is whine that I or other posters are pointing out her embrace of all this violence.

Inga said...

“I don't think I am. But so what? Whether Drago's spirit has influenced my necromantic soul or whatever, the facts are that Inga believes Jessie Smollet and she believes Trump faked an assassination attempt against himself.”

Drago used the same technique of accusing a commenter of saying something he wished the commenter had said, then he expects the commenter to get into some long protracted back and forth with him. This is classic Drago.

Vance said...

I think you just proved my point, Inga, that you are a hopelessly partisan leftist shill who embraces leftist violence.

I personally think that you would gladly, gladly, volunteer to be a camp warden or guard at the Tim Walz concentration camp for any Republican who leftists don't like.

Why? Because once again you refuse to condemn any violence from the left. You can't even acknowledge what your fellow leftists have said, let alone criticize them.

I'm not trying to get into a "long protracted back and forth" with you. I'm trying to get you to admit that your side is violent and thuggish, and everyone can see you act the Ostrich, thinking that if you don't acknowledge the calls to murder Trump, Kirk, Mike Lee, Cruz, Rubio, the list goes on... you can escape moral blame for the inevitable.

I have a daughter who owns a home in the Kenwood--Lowry Hill neighborhood, so I'm familiar with Minnesota politics.

Any Republican who wants to win governor in MN has to flip a solid chunk of DFL voters. Simple math. So who’s better positioned—a MAGA firebrand or a moderate who can appeal in a blue state?

Primaries reward the base, so the GOP will nominate the most MAGA candidate. I expect that person will face Democrat Amy Klobuchar.

If I were picking a DFL nominee, I’d go Dean Phillips—but he’s shown zero interest. You’ll recall he was among the first Democrats to question Biden’s electability.

Was the "Diary of Anne Frank" a "girls" book? I was never in a class that read it together; it was an option on a reading list, but I never paid attention to what the boys were choosing. Listening to what male politicians like Walz are saying about Anne Frank, I am beginning to wonder.

And, for anyone who thinks their aides get them up to speed - Dick Durbin presented a picture that included a headless ICE agent yesterday on the floor of the Senate as a "gotcha" and nobody on his team noticed or cared apparently.

Kak

This is a good comment.

Kenwood/Lowry Hill is the rich AWFL center of Minneapolis (there are plenty in other neighborhoods too, but places like Linden Hills border Edina, which is a still a lot more blue than it used to be itself however; I don’t know if you saw the interview with the one who came to Whittier to “help” on Saturday, you, anyone, would have been embarrassed, her house wasn’t going to be tagged or have). It did help elect Frey however and people in places like my neighborhood bitch about it (but he got a Somali faction behind him and that one what he needed). They will never vote for a Republican of course. This is basically the Upper West Side. Every DFL candidate needs to raise money there (including Omar) and it’s really no problem for them. There might well be conservatives there as there are everywhere but I assure you you will never see a lawn sign. Many of Obama’s key people in MN and indeed nationally live or lived there.

No Republican in Minnesota is going to win. That’s just the way it is. The metro area, Mpls especially, doesn’t care about Somali fraud. They don’t care about any immigration problems. They deny they exist at all. The DFL is a religion to them.

I know Dean Phillips personally. He wouldn’t be nominated (and almost certainly was told that he would have been primaried last time) by the DFL as you probably understand. He’s Jewish and while I cannot tell you if he’s a Zionist I can’t tell you he isn’t one either. His social media profile features him hanging out with people like Matthew McConnaughey (and they really are friends). I don’t think he’s here often or maybe at all these days. He has plenty of money and it seems zero interest in advancing in politics. He’s not stupid. Much more impressive than Walz and Frey intellectually (not difficult). He might have been a nepo or rich-person admit at Brown or something but certainly qualified to have been there. He’s a Democrat and the only party switching he’s likely to do is between one in Aspen and one in Park City but I suppose he could get the nomination of the GOP if he liked the way that Republican mayors of New York did, by having nothing to do with the rest of the party. He does have name recognition unlike ANY member of the hopeless MNGOP. It’s just that I can’t imagine he wants it. I have heard no such rumors.
