"The Minnesotans I met on the streets of Minneapolis and St. Paul were determined to resist and fight back."

"The Trump administration has tried to paint the anti-ICE activists as hard-left agitators, 'blue-haired' domestic terrorists bent on stirring up mayhem. But I found they looked a lot more like a woman I met named Hillary Oppmann, a blonde, 50-something solar energy consultant who lives in South Minneapolis. I stumbled upon Oppmann on a frigid morning last week, when I rolled up on a corner near a high school in South Minneapolis.... A few minutes before I had come upon her, Oppmann had heard the sound of whistles like the one that she wears around her neck, and hustled to the spot.... Oppmann had gotten involved as a volunteer in this group through a parents’ group at the local high school.... She told me she wasn’t surprised at how quickly her neighbors had sprung into action. The community groups that formed in the wake of the murder of George Floyd quickly reactivated, she told me, making it much easier to organize a response. The killing of Renee Good was a horrific shock, but it has not deterred the volunteer observers — if anything, Oppmann said, their ranks have swelled. 'Minnesotans are really good at chipping away at ice,' she dryly noted...."

Writes Lydia Polgreen, in "In Minneapolis, I Glimpsed a Civil War" (NYT).

I remember when "blue-haired" was used in descriptions of little old ladies, nice grandmas, who got their white hair tinted slightly blue to keep it from tending toward yellow. Oppmann is portrayed as someone like that even as she is contrasted to "hard-left agitators, 'blue-haired' domestic terrorists." That's a different blueness, an aggressively intentional unnatural look. The little old lady blueness was a byproduct of gentle dithering over the appearance of age.

It's not a Civil War, by the way ... its a Guerilla War that the Democrat Party is executing against the United States of America and Donald J. Trump had better get off his ass and put down this Insurrection.

He needs to send in the US Army. Just like other Presidents had to do to allow black people to go to American schools.

It's time to bust some fucking heads open and let some people know who the Sheriff in this town is.

The fundamental lever that propaganda uses is to make the target fear that if they don't buy the narrative, that they will risk membership in their group. Women are especially vulnerable to this. Some people say that propaganda works on women because they are stupider than men, but men also can be made to abandon reason, if you threaten their group identity, just not as easily, because they don't value their group identity quite as deeply.

The whole concept of the story boils down to this: propaganda works, and we have been propagandizing this woman for weeks, and look how well it worked!

In cities all across the nation ICE is allowed to do it's job. In those places criminals are being removed from the communities peacefully and efficiently. No coverage. Why do people in Minneapolis not want peaceful removal of criminals? It's the same reason they voted for dangerous, selfish politicians there who purposefully put their citizens at unnecessary risk. They are dumb. Change my mind.

Freud's Totem and Taboo was similar to the Michelson Morley experiment on light speed, it didn't produce a correct new theory, though it did produce a wrong one, about "ether," but the MM experiment showed that the old theories were wrong and there was no going back.

Totem and Taboo showed that groups are not rational, and that political decisions by crowds are not made rationally. Freud's theories as to why were wrong, but not his observation or his dissection of the psychological mechanisms at play.

I wonder who those people are. What I've read is that, irrespective of sex, it's easier to convince the educated of propaganda because they're accustomed to (often unconsciously) creating ex post facto rationalizing for their opinions. Something that should keep us all on our guard, it seems to me.

Why do people in Minneapolis not want peaceful removal of criminals? It's the same reason they voted for dangerous, selfish politicians there who purposefully put their citizens at unnecessary risk. They are dumb. Change my mind.

I probably won't change your mind with this, but ... my husband and I were talking about this last night. He was bemoaning the same thing - that we, our side, should be working harder to get the word out that ICE is doing its job without fanfare all over the country, and chaos only reigns where local authorities have decided that it should.

My counter to that was that in those places, they've worked really hard to convince themselves and their populace that ICE's entire mission is immoral and therefore that they themselves are on the side of the angels. So if you point out that, say, in Texas, ICE doesn't have to contend with interference and obstruction, the response would just be, "Well, of course not! Those people are all Nazis!"

Yesterday on X I saw someone trying to draw a distinction between Memphis and Minneapolis, pointing out that Memphis is also a blue city. The comments? Most of the anti-ICE ones just said that the problem there was that Memphis is a blue city in a sea of red, and therefore did not have the support of the surrounding areas or the governor. They were just overwhelmed, you see, by the Nazis.

So my response would be that they're not dumb - there's a difference between "dumb" and "cozened." They're propagandized. See the first part of my comment.

I bet this woman got paid more to sit in an air conditioned office and make power points than the men who installed and maintained the solar panels.

They had to close that wage gap somehow.

This highlights the true power struggle going on right now. She is just another woman who demanded “equal pay” but didn’t want to do work that needed to be done. She wanted equal pay to make power points and go to conferences.

All of the fraud and bureaucracy that is going to be shut down is going to unemploy a lot of white college educated women who got bullshit jobs.

That is why these protests feature the two groups causing most of the problems in our country: immigrants and overeducated women.

1. Women biologically are more susceptible to manipulation as a generalized population because their brain chemistry is more attuned to group acceptance and they must rely on non-physical mechanisms to maintain social status.

But that isn’t the core problem here. The core problem is that women have created a tribal spoils system that creates bullshit jobs.

Universities, DEI, Human Resources, Consulting and Marketing, Education, government bureaucracy are all industries that are festooned with overeducated women who make nothing anyone wants and they get paid more than plumbers and electricians to do it.

Also Malibu real estate appears to be bouncing back quite nicely thank you…

Why didn’t Lydia Polgreen interview women who are not at the protests? Answering my own question - fear of reprisals might be one reason. But it would be nice if a reporter (who could be trusted enough that women could be sure they would remain anonymous) could do a story about the women who don’t go to the protests. Maybe they’re all radical. I have no idea. But it would be nice to know what they’re thinking.

No argument from me! I was just pushing back at the idea that it was women's intelligence, or lack thereof, that made them vulnerable to propaganda.

I do in fact agree that the evolutionary pressures on women have led them (us) to be more "agreeable" and then, which I would interpret as more desirous of consensus, which I would further interpret as feeling a lot more pressure to go along. Certainly this has been my personal experience as a fairly "disagreeable" woman - I'm still more likely to go along in a group of women, or for that matter in a group of men, than the man next to me who expresses an opinion not shared by the group.

But it is apparently also true that, as I said, irrespective of sex, the educated, the intellectuals, so to speak, are more vulnerable than the uneducated, because they have spent so much time explaining their opinions in terms of facts or rationality (which, like statistics, can be a step further than damned lies when [im]properly used).

Actually more than a few. But we don't want to be on television and then get doxxed. Outside of the Twin Cities proper, there isn't much support for the street theater and self-congratulatory thuggishness going on. We saw a bunch of leftists invade a Baptist church service yesterday because they believe the minister is pro-ICE. Straight up violation of federal law. The dopey right-wing influencer who came to town on Saturday got the crap kicked out of him. The police department in Minneapolis is way down in numbers because of the aftermath of George Floyd and, now that Walz has set up his family leave program that lets people take up to 20 weeks off for basically any reason at all, estimates I've seen is that up to 100 of the 600 remaining cops are hors de combat.

Despite all that, Minnesota is a big state and the stupidity is mostly confined to portions of the metro area. If the NYT reporter went to Sleepy Eye or Thief River Falls or even one of the northern suburbs, she would be hard pressed to find anyone who agrees with Hillary Oppmann. The whole thing is Julien Benda's "La Trahison des Clercs" writ large.

Kai Akker said...

The writer has the terminology correct, IMO. It is a civil war. It has been going on for years now, at least since James Hodgkinson's attack on the Republican congressmen in 2017. Btw, try finding his name in a search. It did not show up until the 6th page of my Brave search to get the date.

The tactics may be different from 1861, but when cities and states are actively defying federal law enforcement, what else is it besides civil war? Civil dis-union? It's been obvious for years that the "riots" are prearranged, with the printed signboards and all the back-up materials like cinderblock delivered with great efficiency to often paid "protestors."

I couldn't get past the NYT paywall, but it's clear this author is trying to propagandize for the rebels. Even so she is admitting what the situation is, civil war.

Philadelphia's DA and Sheriff are threatening to arrest ICE agents for "criminal acts." So the Democrats are broadening this out willfully and they do not care about a future of U.S. of A. unless they are in control of it. The sooner President Trump takes clear action, as Eisenhower did with the 101st Airborne in Little Rock, the better. The rebellion seems unlikely to slow down, the blues are loving it too much and their machinery is cranked up. A "victim" for them to exploit even more pathetic than George Floyd.

Trump, Vance, and others need to repeat the case for legal enforcement. But the media will never show that. Only lawful arrests and prosecutions will stop the Democratic revolt against the union.

"I was just pushing back at the idea that it was women's intelligence, or lack thereof, that made them vulnerable to propaganda."

Well, my point was that intelligence is not really relevant to suscepabiity to propaganda, and that agreeableness is everything, and that it's child's play for propagandists to use the deeply embedded need for group identity to override the situationally useful, and more recently added, evolutionarily, rational intelligence.

Tcrosse: Gandhi and King "led successful movements against powerful regimes with non-violent means."

But the powerful regimes had heavy consciences and internal factions that were easily manipulated.

Gandhi would've been screwed if the Japanese had taken India. King wouldn't have had any success in the antebellum South or the pre-TV Jim Crow South. He succeeded when he did because liberal Northerners could see the dogs and hoses and bodies over dinner. And because a lot of white elite Southerners were looking for an excuse to streamline their economies (costs too much to build 2 of everything) and depress wages (why do you think whites didn't want to open 'their' jobs to competition?).

Today's rioters are about to find out that neither their violence nor their nonviolence convinces anyone anymore. CC, JSM

The point of the article seems to be to show just how normal the anti-ICE protestors are -- they're just like your neighbors. The takeaway, though, is that your neighbors may be really crazy and annoying people.

Minnesota has a lot of the moralistic Puritan New England strain, but while that was moderated in New England by the arrival of immigrants from Ireland and Southern and Eastern Europe, in Minnesota it was increased by the arrival of moralistic, dour Scandinavians. It's taken the Somalis to convince Minnesotans to begin to be less trustful and more cynical about politics.

Trump has announced, through his US Attorney Harmeet Dillon, that Lemon will NOT BE ARRESTED and he can continue invading people's private spaces to terrorize them into supporting open borders.

In Longfellow, Hillary Oppmann watched vandals loot the corner Walgreens for three straight nights without interference before arsonists finally lit it on fire last night. Firefighters didn't make it to the scene for more than 7 hours.

In Minnesota the Dems and Republicans used to be fairly equally divided. But then 90,000 Somalis were imported who all vote as they're told and they are told to vote for the Democrats. These Somalis will always swing the vote to the Dem side espcially since vote harvesting bcame acceptable. So the Dems have no fear of the other side coming in. They run people like Tim Walz with no fear of the consequences. They let people with bags of money go through the airport with no fear of the consequences. They destroy the state finances - no fear. And other communities which have had illegals dropped into them will soon see the same vast corruption coming out of this "diversity."

They don't have a lot of people being crazy there in Minnesota and they don't need them as long as the mainstream pretends they have a lot of support. It's all pretence. The idea is to make provocations till Trump sends in the soldiers and then to stone the soldiers till they shoot and then to say Trump is behaving like Iran. There weren't a lot of people at that attack on the church. It was outrageous but it wasn't done by many people. Same with the ICE Watch. I've seen videos of the encounter and there weren't a lot of cars. But how many does it take to jam up a street - just one. Minneapolis is being taken over by ICE - this is an unpopular cause not supported by mainstream NGOs who don't want to go out to flyover and protest when the temp is 10 degrees and who don't want to support a white woman anyhow. And also they think that Minneapolis was taken over by ice a long time ago and the fascists can have it. Not that they say that but you don't see hordes flocking north. Journalists? One NYT reporter met one protestor and talked to her quickly accepting everything she was told and darted back to the airport for a flight out as if she was catching the last plane out of Saigon. This is as much like George Floyd as Starfleet Academy is like Star Trek.

PS I've been watching Starfleet Academy in tiny increments because it is interesting to see something so bad put out by a major studio. I'm trying to understand but all I can see is that women cannot do a military movie. I think this movie will be shown to show just why women should not be in the military.

Does anyone outside the Twin Cities really care about this? We saw where it led after George Floyd but times are a tad different these days. Legally, the Fed is in the right on this. I mean, I feel for my fellow citizens up there who are innocent and just want some peace, but they themselves voted in all the leadership that have enabled things to get out of hand so they are getting it gooder and harder (to use and Insty paraphrase). I think if ICE can just keep up their attempts as best they can while the rest of the deplorables (and other centrist normies) just go on about their business, this will eventually wither on the vine and die ignominiously. Prof… you are in the state next door but a little more purply than blue MN and is it impactful on you at all? Perhaps if pinpoint this encouragement of lawlessness from blue state leaders, I could might respond to it.

As opinion columnist Lydia Polgreen put it;

”Minnesota is under siege. It might not yet be a civil war, but what the White House has dubbed “Operation Metro Surge” is definitely not just — or even primarily — an immigration enforcement operation. It is an occupation designed to punish and terrorize anyone who dares defy this incursion and, by extension, Donald Trump’s power to wield limitless force against any enemy he wishes.
Thousands of masked, heavily armed agents, some with minimal training, have been unleashed on the streets of an American state. They have been promised near-total legal immunity by the president, effectively unshackled from any constitutional constraints.
They have been given limitless license to abduct anyone — not just the undocumented immigrants, but American citizens who happen to look foreign, whatever that might mean. Even Native Americans, whose ancestors lived here long before anyone else, have been detained on the absurd suspicion that they are undocumented immigrants. They have roughed up local lawmakers, detained and jailed legal observers without charges, tear-gassed high school students, smashed in car windows of bewildered drivers unlucky enough to cross their path. Anyone who gets in their way — by protesting, filming their actions or simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time — is presumed to be a domestic terrorist.

From every thing I’ve read and seen other than on propaganda driven sites, that’s reasonably accurate. What you’re doing is consistent with the Trump turd polishers who’ve been convinced that these particular American citizens are your enemy. You were groomed of that long before Trump initiated his admitted revenge operation on the city.

"Threats of violence" indeed.

You’re quoting a propaganda piece, written by a former HuffPo editor, while accusing others of the same. And if it were a ‘revenge operation’ then why isn’t it revenge in Memphis and New Orleans? You can’t reconcile the difference because you’re afraid to admit the distinction is state endorsed lawlessness in Minnesota.

And while those particular American citizens aren’t my enemy at the moment, they’re certainly an enemy of the duly enacted laws of our country. And they should be treated accordingly.

They'll think they are the good ones. Every one of them a freedom fighter. A few, martyrs. The fact that they are on the wrong side of the law from the get-go* doesn't matter - they've been convicted, in religious parlance, and have no option but to convict others.

* From the get-go, not from the moment that they themselves break the law. It is certainly possible to protest legally while being on the wrong side of the law; that's what the Skokie Nazis were doing. Having an opinion that the law is wrong and should be changed is perfectly copacetic, and if they stopped there (or took it to the public at the ballot box), I'd have no issue with them. But instead, they've decided that the law is wrong and that the legal process of changing the law is just so slow and unsatisfying, so they move from legal protest to illegal action and expect to be lauded for it.

Which the press and people like our lefties are happy to do, both of those groups also being high on their own farts.

Sheesh. This is exhausting and I'm boring myself.

Gospace said...

Okay, all you leftists here spewing forth about "legal observers" or "volunteer observers".

Give us a definition, where they're defined in law, and what their rights are compared to, let's say, any other person in the United States.

Can right wingers (defined as anyone to the right of Lenin, obviously) be "legal observers" or does it apply only to leftists. Can actual law enforcement personnel ON THE SCENE be "legal observers, or are they (in your idiot opinion) biased observers incapable of being truthful? Because all of them that observed an idiot leftist female getting shot observed that it was a "good shoot" in self defense in legal terms.

And?

At least since Janet Reno, and really going back to Ike and JFK, the fedgov has demonstrated its ability to bring overwhelming force against domestic enemies. It's especially important for Trump to make such a showing, since the enemy hopes there are 'adults' or 'professionals' (translation: bad appointee picks or Deep Staters) who will thwart him from the inside.

Especially since Trump has been treated to lawfare and actual kinetic warfare, it's really important for him to show that stuff won't fly anymore.

So any enforcement action kind of has two purposes: the immediate mission at hand, and showing the awesome power he has available for anyone else trying to subvert the USG. CC, JSM

No, we understand human decency. Decent humans who are American citizens understand they owe a moral duty to their fellow Americans that is great than any duty owed to foreigners. and "Foreigners" includes ALL non-US citizens, most certainly including illegal aliens who happen to be in the US.

So we know the decent human beings: they're the ones cheering on ICE as it removes illegal aliens from the US.

Alternatively, they figured threats of violence would cow everyone into staying home, silent—letting it happen instead of recording it and fighting back.

Now do the J6 protesters, and how you Dems treated them.

Anyone interfering with ICE agents is a criminal. They are at least as much of an "insurrectionist" as was any J6 protester. So yes, ICE is going to deport the illegals, and they're going to arrest anyone who gets in the way of doing that.

You don't like that? Tough shit. it's legal, and it's Constitutional, and we won, so we get to do it.

And only an insurrectionist domestic terrorist and enemy of democracy would try to stop us

Yo leftists

It's not your place to "fight back" against legal actions by law enforcement. That's an insurrection. a real one.
Illegal law enforcement = Walzian local police who have not quit in disgust.
Walzian mob orders. = mob

RJW: “ Minnesota law enforcement was shut out of planning and decision-making, then left to deal with the community consequences”

Ah, that explains why Frey said “look, just meet with my police chief, and we’ll send marked cars to help make sure your raids go smoothly.”

Instead of “get the fuck out of Minneapolis.” CC, JSM

The blue-haired girls better watch out for purple-haired goth wifu Amelia. She was created so people could hate her, but the opposite is happening.

Well Mosby, no.

Minnesota law enforcement was shut out of planning and decision-making, then left to deal with the community consequences. That’s been one of the major complaints all along but I get it that EpochTimes failed to mention it.

It will be fun to watch the trials of the state police leadership that told officers not to cooperate with and not defend federal officers from the mob.

Quite frankly, this just making up whatever bullshit as you go is getting boring. Sadly, I naively thought I could get some challenging rebuttals here. Should’ve known better.

The only question we have right now is who hates Christians more, Democrats like you and Don Lemon or your Somali Muslim allies.

" "Hillary Oppmann, a blonde, 50-something solar energy consultant who lives in South Minneapolis."
Sounds legit."

I typed her name into the search bar. She is active in many community-oriented activities. Solar energy might have been in there but she is quoted in the news for many things. I suspect the reporters know her personally and seek her out for quotes.
