"The Kremlin has announced that Vladimir Putin has been invited to join Donald Trump’s 'board of peace'..."

"... set up last week with the intention that it would oversee a ceasefire in Gaza. The Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, told journalists on Monday that Russia was seeking to 'clarify all the nuances' of the offer with Washington, before giving its response. The claimed invitation comes as Putin shows no signs of ending his invasion of Ukraine, in which hundreds of thousands have been killed..."

The Guardian reports.

That's Trump for you: Always bringing people together to support Peace in the Region.

Unless it somehow encourages Putin to end the war in Ukraine it doesn't seem to make sense. 3-D, 4-D chess?

Trump has been trying hard to make nice with Putin ever since he kept his buddy Vlad on the phone while the CIA tried to assassinate him.

I know, I know, the CIA said in the NYT that they were only trying to hit a target "near" Putin's home where his children and their mother live, so it's only an alleged assassination attempt, but nonetheless, Trump has been trying to butter up Putin ever since, "let's let bygones be bygones."

Has anyone yet invented a computer with enough processing power to track the people and organizations who have no problem with the world's greatest human rights abusers running the UN human rights councils or the world's most misogynistic countries running UN councils on women's rights who suddenly have a problem with Russia joining a council of peace?

Jaq repeats his lie that the CIA tried to assassinate Putin or his alleged family. Why no link to what the NYT wrote? Putin in fact accused Ukraine of trying to assassinate him, which was of course already an obvious lie. Why is Jaq making claims that even Putin doesn’t? His hyperPutinite ravings are disgusting and insane.

I love it. First I think Russia has a damn good reason to stop nato incursion onto his doorstep. We started this engagement. Also Russia imo should be a natural “ally” to the US.

I thought Putin was going to invade Greenland and threaten the very safety of the US?

This "Board of Peace" seems to be set up as his own personal United Nations. I suppose if you are already king of the US the next step is the world.

What a week …..and it’s only Monday!

It suddenly struck me at the reason why I'm not bothered by Trump and at the same time not terribly impressed by him as well is that I recognize he has a very very low signal to noise ratio. The failure to recognize this characteristic of trump is what causes the outlandishly positive TDS as well as the outlandishly negative TDS.

Howard said...

Seeing Kak reacting to all the noise proves my point. One thing that I've been working on really hard over the last five or six years is to strengthen and tone my vagal nervous system. The stressors of modern Life is a trap that keeps people within their sympathetic nervous system, EG fight or flight. Trump is definitely tapping into this with his low low low signal to noise ratio. In a way he's helping to normalize modern mental illness by constantly keeping people off balance and jacked up. This keeps most people on both sides of the aisle with their fire alarm ringing inside their head.

There are only two paths to peace: Total victory, or agreement between belligerents. You can't get agreement without including the people fighting. So the dummies need to tell us how we get total victory over Russia, if we can't work with them, especially with Europeans firmly stuck to teat of Russia.

Trump is sending two messages to Russia: 1. don't eff with us (Venezuela, Greenland, Iran) 2. we're willing to deal if you are (Ukraine, Middle East). Overall goal: loosen Russia-China link. Secondary goal: get US out of policing Europe. Of course, Vlad has his own, different goals.

Seeking strategic territorial military advantage is completely compatible with inviting those who present those threats to join a counsel of peace. In fact, one without the other is dangerous.

Next, Ghislaine Maxwell to the Board for the Protection of Minors. And we are still waiting for the answer of Kim Jong Un. Hopefully he'll join and brings the billions. He's a great guy.

The Bored of Peace membership keeps on growing.

The dead horse of American credibility continues to be smacked around like a piñata.

Achilles said...

This is all standard.

Intelligent foreign policy recognizes great power dynamics and that every power has interests.

When interests align you work together.

When interests conflict you fight one way or another.

We are not going to defeat Russia. Russia has nuclear weapons. We are not going to defeat China. China has nuclear weapons.

The natural and intelligent outcome is to respect spheres of influence and stop pretending the United States has some sort of obligation to spread democracy.

Ukraine particular is not a democracy and hasn’t been since we installed a puppet government in 2014.

God, people overthink this shit. Russia is still Russia. Huge Eurasian landmass and nuclear weapons. The idea that they should be absolutely shunned over some incompetent border war in the old Russian Empire was always moronic.

Full marks to Trump for at least trying to draw Russia back into the family of nations. While his antagonists screech about hookers and golden showers.

Howard: “This keeps most people on both sides of the aisle with their fire alarm ringing inside their head.” Bad news, Howard. Other than a few hyperbolic Trump officials and some federal officers who are under attack there is no fire alarm. The theory does, however, explain your degeneration from interesting to hysterical.

The Guardians motto isnt ABC (always be closing) but ABL (always be lying). The Russian Ukrainian war didn't start in 2022, it started in 2014. Russia had enough, and the people's of the two breakway Republics wanted to be with Russia.

In any case, Ukraine is under martial law and refuses to hold elections. Russia holds elections and has Putin critics in parliment and in the press. The war is never-ending because Zelenskyyy with his 3 passports doesn't want to stop it.

RCOCEAN II said...

The Guardian isn't "Peaceloving" they weren't enthusiastic critics of either the attacks on Iran, or Israel's land grabs in Syria or the its genocide in Gaza. They don't mind war, or "invasions" when their friends are doing ti.

Whats the fun it that? Wasting of billions of dollars and getting thousands killed seems to be the favorite sport of our DC Elite.

This is something that Scott Adams would have called "creating something out of nothing". There's no actual board of peace, at least not yet, but the prospect of one creates something of potential value that can be used in negotiations. "Gee, Vlad, the Board of Peace members look to do really well, but it's hard to have you as a member when you are doing x, y, and z."
