For those who are skeptical of what Venezuela’s de facto leaders have been doing to warrant this, I would point you to the podcast “Intelligence Matters“ hosted by Michael Morell, and specifically an episode he did on October 31, 2017 with Pedro Bruelli. There are other episodes on Venezuela on the podcast. but the October 31, 2017 episode clearly discusses how Venezuela is led by an organized crime group in the illegitimate position of actually controlling a country.

And for you few relentless, unbridled critics of Donald Trump, here is the point that stands out to me: the podcast host, Michael Morell, the former acting director of the CIA, is, one of the 50 signers of the statement about Hunter Biden‘s laptop. Or in other words, he’s no Donald Trump fan. So their discussions about Venezuela are not … what’s the usual phrase?…far-right propaganda. give a listen. Very informative.

Fortunately, Venezuela has a democratically-elected leader, so “regime change” should be relatively painless.

..."It will cause significant pressure on the rest of Central and South American leaders to play ball on the drug/China issue or face the same removal...."

Much of the fairly-elected leadership in Central and South America have, within the past year, been conservative leaders with populist bent. Argentina, Chile, Honduras, Bolivia, and I think, El Salvador. Colombia and Brazil are the exceptions, and I would imagine they are feeling the pressure right about now. A Big Tide has been coming in, in the Americas, and it has been grassroots and politically-driven by their populations. We'll see what comes of it. But Venezuela has a tough road to recovery, with petroleum wealth at the end of it. Don't forget that Guyana, next door, has seen its GDP triple over the past couple of years, and is set to triple again, with the development of deep water oil by Shell and Exxon. Imagine what cycles like this do for a country.

Eva Marie said...

“How come we're not bombing her?”
Because she is cooperating with the US.

john mosby said...

There's no need to rig voting machines when you just print ballots for nonexistent people in the urban centers of swing states. That's how the Dems "won" 2020. The only "machines" that mattered were their party political machines. Explorations of the physical electronic machines were an unneccessary distraction. CC, JSM

Quayle said...

From the podcasts: “ “Well, the first thing that has to happen, and I think you cannot talk about politics in Venezuela if you do not go back to the idea that this is a narco state. We're not dealing with an incompetent government. We're not dealing with an ideology.

We're dealing with a criminal gang. If you start from that, then everything else kind of falls. It is very difficult to deal with politics as usual when you're trying to play by democratic rules when in front of you, you have a criminal gang.

This is why dialogue has failed. When you sit across the table from criminals, and you're only, as the opposition, asking for the Constitution to be upheld, that's all the opposition is asking. The opposition is not even inventing a Constitution.

They're saying, please, uphold the Constitution that you guys pressed on us. It was Chavez's Constitution. Please follow it.

That's all the opposition is asking for. What is the government expecting? Immunity, impunity.

They just want to get away with murder, literally. And that's what's difficult, because this is a complete unmatched table. There is no way that you could reach an agreement.”

“It’s been one year. Trump II is in the process of paradigm-shifting victories on immigration, presidential control over the executive, and the enforcement of the CRA against the many illegalities of the racial reckoning. It has demonstrated willingness to cut higher Ed’s federal lifeline to force institutions to their knees. It’s forced the legal definition of sex back into the law. It is rooting out billions in public support for the institutional leftist machine.

Progress in each of these areas is tangible, I can list cases, firings, funding cuts, and lawsuits, not just rhetoric.

And yet people whine because the world hasn’t been completely and utterly transformed in a mere 360ish days, and there’s still work left to do. What did you expect? 20M deportations overnight? Did it occur to you that that’s a massively difficult logistical feat to organize, and would take some time even if they WEREN’T fighting a recalcitrant system? Did you think there really was a fix everything switch?

Some parts of the “online right” have an even more magical view of governance than the oldhead Washington Generals chattering classes.

In my book, this administration has racked up more critically important wins than any R administration in my political memory, and I think the case can be made it’s the best R administration for the right in 100 years.“

Most of South and Central America is a proxy war between foreign powers.

Biden installed the marxist ruler of Honduras by throwing the political opposition there in jail on "drug charges." Trump pardoned that guy and the "conservative" party is now in charge of Honduras again.

All Trump has done is entered an America First proxy into these wars.

True, but the electronic machines were also largely intact. Anyone who got too close to them was rapidly and severely prosecuted during the Interregnum.

I think the difference was Trump had a force of legal observers out there, ready to contest any shenanigans. And Musk had X operating as a way for shenanigans to be exposed to public scorn. Also, the Trump rallies in red cities showed that he was ready to deploy his street fighters anywhere, if it came down to that.

That, plus the Left's fatigue at having none of their lawfare work, and exchanging a vegetable for a (word) salad as their front-runner.

So mostly human factors, not so much tech. CC, JSM

Possible explanations:
1) Because Trump loves cocaine.
2) Trump wanted to give his critics something to use against him.
3) He's just evil.
4) It's what Hitler would do.

As I said to Beasts of England at 9:06, it's ridiculous to imagine the 82nd Airborne conducting covert operations anywhere at any time. If his friend "in the business" told him that, I doubt he's really deep enough in the business to know, and not disclosing any actual classified information at all.

You need to read the whole sordid story about that pardon and why. If you only get it from lefty sources you will know exactly half of the story. There is more than one non- nefarious reason for Trump's pardon there, but to distil it down. Trump had good reason to think the charges were politically motivated and the trial unfairly biased. True? I don't know, but knowing Trump, it seems more logical than bribery or that he just does stuff to piss you off.
