Wanda Sykes calls out Ricky Gervais' transphobia while accepting the Golden Globe for Best Stand-Up Comedy Performance on his behalf: "He would like to thank God and the trans community."

Ricky Gervais "would like to thank God and the trans community."
Says Wanda Sykes accepting the Golden Globe for the absent Ricky:
ADDED: I did not interpret Sykes's statement as "call[ing] out Ricky Gervais' transphobia" any more than I thought she was calling out his atheism. I didn't notice the text when I chose the Reddit clip. Reading it now, I just think it's wrong. It doesn't match what I thought when I first read it. I was just looking for a clip to embed and that Reddit presentation popped up. My immediate interpretation: I thought she was tweaking the over-eager defenders of trans people for going after her fellow comedian.

I'll bet that jacket wipes clean with a damp sponge.
Aw, did bad old Ricky leave a mark?
Not to be off topic, but here's my coded message.
This is much more important and germane than entertainers licking each other's wounds.
CCDCFE. HBD, AA!
Who is she?
The Patriots kicked ass last night.
Was there something else going on?
I liked Wanda early in her career.
There is no "trans community". There is just a politically connected mob of perverts. And none of them believe in God, it's only a pose.
How much ICEphobia was on display last night? Need to start using their language against them.
I loved Wanda before she got all virtuous.
Maybe those words came from Ricky Gervais himself, not Wanda Sykes. Maybe that's what he told her to say if he won. It sounds like him.
Homosexual.
Clearly a joke, and meant to be funny, but, without context, it is lacking.
If you want to laugh, I recommend the latest episode of "Kill Tony," with Joe Rogan and Shane Gillis. The last guest is really good.
What Bob Boyd said 👆🏽
If you want to laugh, give a listen to Ben Bankas, a stand-up comedian from Canada

I am sure Gervais laughed.
anyone who uses the "phobia" label is someone who approves of all the bad things that group partakes in.
Slicing off heads...
Sexually Abusing children.
Fake (wo)man winning in the all-women sports.
All OK with the p-phobics.
People don't get sarcasm these days. Wanda gave the perfect off the cuff except in speech for Ricky. I'm sure he soiled himself laughing
Shes temu marla gibbs
Maybe Wanda meant Ricky would like to thank God and the Trans community for all the comedic material.
Unarmed American citizens are being executed by Trump's Gestapo and the job market is the weakest we've seen this century. But some of tonight's Golden Globes speeches went on too long.
But at least I got to watch two unnamed UFC fighters walk across the stage for no particular reason other than
Paramount+ has taken over exclusive streaming and broadcast rights for all UFC events in the US so they are going to pimp the hell out of it.

I think she's capable of that kind of humor, that high-level humor that I agree sounds like what Gervais would do.
God Bless Paramount. No more PPV (80 Bucks last year!, for five fights times a dozen events, roughly a grand a year). If they don't make it work, it's back to PPV.
Figures the Dems are on the wrong side of another 80-20 issue. And their voters say 'just give me the talking points'.
As I've recounted here before, I appreciated the time Wanda Sykes was booed of the stage in Boston at a major arena-scale fundraiser.
Soon after Trump's first election in 2016, and perhaps because she thought it was liberal Boston, Sykes thought she could phone in her performance with a string of anti-Trump jokes which, most importantly, weren't funny.
Prior comics in the line-up did Trump jokes to laughter and applause. But their jokes were funny. They had material. They weren't monomaniacal. Sykes clearly thought she could phone-in her anti-Trump screed.
A crescendo of cat calls and boos gradually built as she tried to push forward against the backlash. Bill Burr came out from backstage and asked me what was going on. I told him about how Sykes' lack of material became obvious to the crowd. Anyway, she left the stage early.
I was proud of the discernment the Boston comedy crowd showed. An audience can be discriminating in their comedic taste without being discriminatory toward the comedian.
You’d better run off and lick your wounds or your minge, kak.
Your choice.
Only thing I can remember about Sykes was Cosby handing her her own ass when she was working the crowd at another awards show and stopped to try and work him. That was pre-Hannibal Burris too, so he was still king of the castle.
I stumbled across a bit of the Golden Globes last night but escaped unharmed (five-second rule).
Wanda seems to be attempting to say the opposite of what Gervais believes in order to tweak him for ignoring the GG.
Yeah it’s just a comic jab. Prior to her opening the envelope Wanda had said “I love you Ricky but because if you win, I get to accept the award on your behalf. And you’re going to thank God. And the trans community.” And then he won and she did just that. She is alluding to the fact that Ricky is an atheist and a few years ago made a trans joke. So, of course, thanking either God or the trans community would be something that he wouldn’t do - or maybe he would as a joke.
She made fun of all the nominees first، the rest to their faces, and was sharper with others. Don't think she expected him tp win when joked she would say that if he did.

You need to get out there and fight the NAZIs in your midst. If you don’t you are just a piece of shit coward.
You are tarnishing Renee’s legacy. You are just a weak kneeling loser.
I didn’t get the reference either so encouraged by the fact that nobody else understood the joke. I asked Grok to give me a couple examples of Gervais humor regarding transgender. He made a joke about new women with beards and cocks. And another time made a joke about Caitlyn Jenner, I imagine after her car accidents and said something about Jenner not helping the cause of women drivers.

I think so. I think she’s also capable of a lazy political hit like Wince describes, too. Given the audience…
My guess is that Gervais would find that hilarious.
If I am remembering correctly, she went on Who Do You Think You Are? where they traced her ancestry back to some of the first West Africans brought to the Virginia colony. The earliest were brought as indentured servants and not as slaves. So she can trace her West African ancestry in America back through 4 centuries of freemen.
No mention in the show if her free ancestors ever purchased some slaves.
Who gives a fuck if Ricky Gervais is "Offended". I'm not his mother. I find him funny except for the atheism. He can't stop talking about it, and its worse when he gets serious. A typical mid-wit who thinks he's found something that no else has.
He's not a 21st century Bertrand Russell. He's a 2nd rate Sam Harris. And that's pathetic.
Philosopher and logician
As for Sykes. She's just another comic who started out funny, got old, and then turned politcal. Unless they have great writers or they're true geniuses comics run out of jokes. And its either (1) bore people with the same ol' same ol' or (2) try something new - like politics.
Even when people cared about movies, no one cared about Golden Globes.
Golden Globes really a different organization simce ot was almost destroyed in a scandal exposed by LA Times, sold off, and voters completely redone. The change reflected in increase in foreign movie winners. TV awards diffetent story.
She started out by ribbing all the other nominees, in the way comedians often roast each other. (About Kevin Hart, she said “Kevin, you know I love you. And the thing is, Kevin is the richest guy in this category. And yet, I know he wants it the most.”) So, yes, she was definitely calling out Ricky Gervais -- and I think she meant to criticize his often-expressed views. But it was clearly done as a friendly jab from one comic to another.
It's only my own take, but Ricky's atheism doesn't attract much notice. His anti-wokeism does, so people make assumptions about anti-trans sentiments which he may or may not have.
Timmy won. Isn't he the house favorite here? "One Battle After Another" won as a comedy or musical. Is that what it is? There's a relatively new award for "Cinematic and Box Office Achievement" so that a movie that somebody actually saw would take home an award. This year it went to "Sinners."
“Calling out” is an ambiguous expression. What I’m trying to say is I don’t think she’s seriously criticizing him for being an atheist or for being what some people would call transphobic.
“ Timmy won. Isn't he the house favorite here?”
“ Timmy won. Isn't he the house favorite here?”
You know, I still haven’t seen that movie where he pretends to be Bob Dylan. I’ll watch it when it’s on one of the streaming services I already subscribe to, but I never see it anywhere and I’ve reached the point where I actually don’t even care. I don’t watch many movies especially new movies, but I’ve only seen Timmy in one movie and that was “The French Dispatch.”
The movie. I’m currently watching, on the criterion channel, is “The Bellboy.”
I think she tried to go Ricky Gervais on Ricky Gervais but it was kind of weak. Still, she made the effort.....I think since that Gervais appearance, the comics feel that they have to be a bit edgier, but they don't have Gervais money so they can't go for the jugular, and a lot of the insults were subtly flattering.
It was an fx (i guess it wasnt bad) how accurate his impression of dylan, i couldnt say
Maybe she didn't call him out. Maybe she dapped him. Or clapped back. Or whatever hip term the kids are using these days.
Well, the Golden Globes are so 6-7 anyway, so I don't blame him...
When Gervais say's there is no God, nothing happens, but if he says there is no trans, that shit will catch on fire and burn down a city. It's the difference between insulting your brother, or insulting your other brother who just got out of jail for burning down the high school.
Anything beyond the near domain is inferred from signals of unknown origin and fidelity, an article of faith. The transgender spectrum includes homosexuals and others divergent states and processes from sex-correlated attributes (e.g. sexual orientation).
I enjoyed the singing in a complete unknown and have listeded to the cd. I think the original plan was to use Dylan but Timmy did fine.
Isn't this the same, snarling bitch who wished a painful death on Rush Limbaugh?
The very same one in 2009
Regardless of prior knowledge, I think the ladies joke was very very funny. I interpret it as the old standby of boldly saying the opposite of what everyone knows.
She's taking a mild jab at Gervais. Tweeking him for talking about transphobia too much. If you think that means she's attacking Gervais for being an athiest, Good Grief, maybe you need a humor transplant.
They love Gervais being an atheist. He's under suspicion because he's a White male Englishman. And he doesn't appear to be Jewish. His attacks - at least in part - on Christianity are his way of disarming his Leftwing critics. "Hey, don't worring - I'm on your side" is his message to Hollywood execs.
If he's making fun of trans its because he's too old to keep up with all the twists and turns of the party line. And because Leftist didn't really prepare the public to love Trans people. After their victory with Gay marriage, they just jumped to "Trans people are the new special protected class" - and off limits.
It took them 30 years of non-stop propaganda to do that with Gays.
I understand younger people, but I'm amazed and disappointed that people my age or older are not completely bored with race and it's adjacent victimhoods. It has stepped all over everything enjoyable since race first started losing it's power to oppress one group. It now oppresses everything, and never let go of the first victims. A real success story in all the wrong ways. It's freaking boring.
I think Sykes gets both contexts for the joke and was relying on that inherent “tension” to get a laugh. Having watched several Gervais comedy specials besides his many TV appearances, I “got” the joke and laughed. What I didn’t get was her Bill Maher comment. Clearly she disapproves of Maher but what she said was not funny (the 1st job of a comedian) and just assholish given the context.
