"Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) said the National Guard is ready to deploy if riots break out, something he was too slow to do after George Floyd’s murder in 2020."

"But he pleaded with protesters to remain peaceful. 'They want a show,' he said. 'We can’t give it to them.' Walz is right that Trump could use unrest to invoke the Insurrection Act and deploy U.S. troops to Minnesota. (A recent defeat at the Supreme Court otherwise limited his authority to commandeer the National Guard.) The president posted on social media: 'We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate!'... Before the shooting, Walz described the federal enforcement surge as 'a war that’s being waged against Minnesota.' After the incident, MAGA allies quickly sought to blame Walz’s rhetoric, including his previous comparison of ICE to the Gestapo, for raising tensions...."

That said, given the training and tactics modern cops are subject to, he shouldn't be prosecuted for murder. However, this incident should be examined with all of the objectivity and scrutiny of a NTSB crash investigation to determine how to prevent outcomes like this in the future.

Leftists are always going to align with the criminal elements in society, because leftism is itself an inherently criminal enterprise.

I know that this was just a flip comment, but I'm trying to maintain some balance, at least in my own head, so - I disagree. Most on the left, I believe, are not motivated by criminal opportunities. I think they're motivated by, what, three or four generations' worth of critical theory embedded in all curricula: everything comes down to power dynamics, and the less historically powerful (regardless of their current position in society, whether as individuals or as a group) are always the morally superior. By aligning with the Oppressed, members of the historically more powerful group(s) (though it really just comes down to "white") are washed in the blood of the Lamb and become righteous. If they don't align with the Oppressed, they're destined to wallow in their perfidy for all eternity.

Ok, that doesn't sound very "balanced." What I'm trying to say is that I think leftists don't think they're evil. Or, maybe I should say, I think they - especially the white ones - believe, uneasily and deep down, that they're stained with Original Sin, and they have to perform a lot of acts of reconciliation and expiation in order to remove that stain (at least temporarily). That is, they are, I believe, motivated by a kind of existential fear.

That kinda flattens itself into a political talking point don’t ya think?

In 2020, Walz was dealing with an isolated incident that triggered civil unrest. A premature deployment of untrained or militarized forces risked escalation against citizens.

Today, the governor’s responsibility is preventing disorder and asserting state control in response to not merely one federal incident but what appears to be an ongoing presence and escalation.

These are not the same problem, and they don’t call for the same response.

Standard tactic to get a look through the windshield, Howard. Most vehicles have tinted side and back windows so when approaching a vehicle LEOs like to have a look through the front to assess how many threats are in the car. He also was photographing her before she started toward him.

To all the "but her wheels turned right" people, that is irrelevant. As soon as she drove her weapon towards officers she presented a reasonable threat to the two in the likely path (one is not visible in many angles but would have been in her path if she did crank the wheel hard right*). The one who drew his weapon was focused on her, the driver assaulting them. He kept his eyes on the target while firing and yes training informs officers to fire twice, then keep firing until the threat is absolutely ended.

*Note the path the car took after she was shot. It's NOT turning right.

Achilles said...

Writes the Editorial Board of The Washington Post, in "The woman fatally shot by ICE in Minneapolis did not deserve to die Rioting in response to fatal shooting plays into Trump’s hands."

Deserve is a word for stupid people. It is just as dumb as fair.

This woman made decisions that led to consequences. She was harassing officers with her vehicle all day. They were eventually going to arrest her.

She chose to try to run over one of them.

There were consequences for shooting this woman.

There were consequences for not shooting this woman.

Both of these actions lead to different types of societies. If you let this woman try to run over the police officer and drive away then every jackass in the country will start trying to run over police officers at every traffic stop.

The most humane course of action at this point is to arrest everyone that acts like this following ICE Agents around and harassing them as they enforce the law.

If you want more people to die you will let mobs follow officers around and throw snowballs at them.

But there is a large element of pride and self-righteousness driving their actions. The core fault is leaving one's home in the morning with your heart *already* set on opposing other people. Most people do not hold extreme or deep political beliefs, Jamie.

That's fair - I'd even leave off the "extreme." But I do know a lot of ordinary, not-very-engaged Democrats who absolutely believe that they're on the side of morality and that Republicans are either stupider or less morally concerned, or both, than they are. In one case that comes to mind, one such Democrat, in California, recently lost an ex-family member in a very tragic and awful way, and was surprised to find that it was her Republican family members and friends who made the effort to reach out to her to check on how she was doing. The other Democrats in her life were vocally occupied with how bad Republicans and especially MAGA people are, and didn't give her a thought.

So yeah, I'd agree that most people are not as engaged with politics as the people here are, but I'd still argue that being morally clean is (at least at present) part of the package even for unengaged Democrats, in a way that it isn't for Republicans (or, obviously, independents).

Or maybe it's just Californians.

If ICE is there, I think you'll find in the majority of cases that they already have a warrant for arrest in hand. Reporting is poor, but people paying attention will note that ICE is mostly going after immigrants with known felony criminal convictions, often also wanted in relation to a recent crime yet to be adjudicated. That is often how ICE knows the whereabouts of the subject to be detained, because they were once arrested by local law enforcement and released (often on bail).

Often, ICE already had a request that the subject be detained by local law enforcement, until they could arrive to arrest on federal charges. That's how all this typically begins. The subject commits another crime, is caught locally, the local arrest appears in the National Criminal Information System that then triggers the notification of ICE of the subject's local detention, by the time ICE arrived, "sanctuary" state/city policy has released the subject to avoid participating in DHS law enforcement. ICE then goes to the last known address of the subject to make the arrest, and ICE had the warrant the entire time.

Wow, that is an exceedingly superficial take on what Good was doing as more details emerge, as well a gross exaggeration of Babbit's situation.

Regardless of what else was going on around the Capitol, Byrd was in a secure location with multiple other officers and there is at least a question of whether he clearly identified himself and his intention to use deadly force before shooting the unarmed Babbit, who likely had no way of knowing he was located on the other side of wall.

Good appears to have been leading a convoy of vehicles obstructing the actions of a single ICE team which had no back up. She deliberately blocked their vehicle and was not just aware of their presence but was directly interacting with the officers while being filmed by her partner. She had every opportunity to deescalate the situation by complying with the officer's instructions before she took what were at best proactive actions with her own vehicle.

So how did the agent know that she only planned to "push him away" and do nothing further? Anti-law enforcement leftists have the attitude that the cops are supposed to know how far the perp will go and therefore should only use equal force to stop the threat. That's now how it works.

The agent saw the vehicle accelerating towards him and took necessary action to stop the threat to his life.

Also, being "pushed away by a vehicle" can cause extreme injuries and even death. The same agent was dragged by a vehicle for 300 ft a few months ago and received 33 stitches for his injuries.

The ICE agent was trying to arrest a criminal, who responded with violence

So she was shot

There is no "left wing privilege" establishing that it's acceptable for left wing protesters to violate the law, or resist arrest. If you are deluded to claim otherwise, that's your problem, not ours.

We refuse to live in an America where the left gets to be above the law. And we will kill as many leftists as necessary to make it clear that isn't the situation.

What does the WaPoo know? "She did not deserve to die". Play silly games, win silly prizes. I suspect that this incident involved two people who panicked--the ICE agent who shot had previously been struck by another car. The driver had got in over her head--and hit the accelerator. The ICE agent shot--the woman died.

It's tragic - she had control and was arrogant.
Where did that come from? The elite democratic party.

Exactly. In both cases, excessive force was used against someone who created the conditions for their own shooting.

Wrong. In one case, it was outright murder, with the capital hill policeman being in ZERO danger, and victim being surrounded by a SWAT Team.

In this case, a woman attempted to run over an Federal law official with her care.

Using that logic the Israeli attack on Gaza and the October 7th attack were both uses of "excessive force". Don't you agree?

Uh - well you cracked the code with "She thought"
So people are allowed to act out their fantasies based on the bullshit fed to them? She has thoughts - so she can do whatever she wants?

Under the Trump administration, assaulting and injuring a police officer at the Capitol could result in a pardon.

Attempting to flee from an ICE agent, however, may lead to deadly force.

Liberals are adamant that George Wallace and other Southern politicians who inflamed racist sentiments during the Civil Rights Era were complicit in racially motivated violence. A church bombing in Birmingham was, for example, "blood on the hands of Governor Wallace." Tim Walz is also a pig with reckless disregard for the impact of his words on public safety.

The Democratic Party should be called out for its gross and simple minded rhetoric. They are giving moral permission for thugs to use their fists and their cars on ICE agents and rifles on Republican politicians. How is this not "incitement to imminent lawless action"?

ICE kidnappings and murders will continue until morale improves.

As long as a Democrat somewhere thinks something is unjust they get to drive vehicles at police according to Howard. Stupid twats can use their vehicles to harass and attack law enforcement as long as they are democrats trying to protect illegal immigrants and democrat welfare fraud.

I don’t want police officers to wonder if I am a Democrat that wants to run them over.

I want police officers to trust me and enforce the laws that they were hired to enforce.

TeaBagHag said...

This is a good example of the cult like devotion to dogma over reality. Video exists that clearly shows the Gestapo was not in the path of the car but the MAGAts bleat on and on and on about self defense, following orders, the murder victim’s folly for opposing fascism.
Who to believe, fascist shills or my lying eyes?

Spiros said...

TeaBagHag there is video of Goode's SUV striking the ICE officer and, of course, the officer's bodycam is going to completely exonerate him. It really doesn't matter if Goode was trying to kill the ICE officer or if she was just panicking. And, for all the "Magats" out there, it doesn't really matter that Ms. Goode was mentally ill or, at least, being prescribed heavy anti-psychotics. She obviously had some problems -- apparently her girlfriend would put cigarettes out on children. And Ms. Goode was paid agitator. But none of that stuff matters -- Ms. Goode tried to run someone over and that is enough to get shot at in self-defense.

Iman said...

Rep. Seth Moulton is a dickless, mush-mouthed corksoaker.

That is all.

TeaBagHag said...

MAGAts have to endorse the murder, they can’t overcome the cult-think or their little brains would break from the cognitive dissonance. There’s no RATIONAL person who could watch any of the videos and conclude that the murder was justified.

1: For violently resisting arrest she absolutely deserved to die
2: No one could possibly be stupid enough to believe it's "illegal" for ICE to arrest illegal aliens. That's their job, and it's entirely legal.

She's just a law and democracy hating scum who thought she could deny the rest of us the enforcement of the laws we voted for.

Fuck her

Mr D: Was there any wide spread rioting or 'civil unrest' in Minneapolis last night?

No.

Property damage similar to the Floyd riots--people walking in knee deep ash from the burnout hulk of the city?

No.

What's your take on the situation on the mean streets of Minneapolis?

Not very likely to be riots. Cold rain tonight in the city and maybe snow after that. It's not May. The other difference? ICE has a lot of people here and while they're going to continue to be harassed, they're not about to leave. And while the local law enforcement, at least at the police chief levels, are not enamored of all the feds roaming the city, their only recourse is complaining about it.

Rustygrommet said...

Howard. She was ordered to stop and get out of the car. Even if she didn't move the car she was already in violation of the law. She got tagged because she tried to run over an ICE agent while doing his job.
Once again. When the Popo says stop and get out of your car, stop and get out of your car and keep your mouth shut.
Is that too hard?

"Illegal police state operation"? What? Nobody could find a federal judge to issue an injunction? Hard to believe.

Anyway... as much as leftists keep insisting they're the same, protesting and interfering with the police are different things.

I think Goode is the latest Horst Wessel for the left. While she might end up with a song I doubt it will be as rousing as the last one.

"Flag high, ranks closed,
The S.A. marches with silent solid steps.
Comrades shot by the red front and reaction
March in spirit with us in our ranks.

The street free for the brown battalions,
The street free for the Storm Troopers.
Millions, full of hope, look up at the swastika;
The day breaks for freedom and for bread.

For the last time the call will now be blown;
For the struggle now we all stand ready.
Soon will fly Hitler-flags over every street;
Slavery will last only a short time longer.
Flag high, ranks closed,
The S.A. marches with silent solid steps.
Comrades shot by the red front and reaction
March in spirit with us in our ranks.”

Tune is catchy though. https://www.anesi.com/east/horstw.wav

Scott Jennings called it " vigilantism". Some People, 100% on the Left, have decided that immigration law is wrong and rather than change it legislatively are using violence and intimidation to attack the legal enforcers of our immigration laws in an attempt to stop enforcement.
The dead woman was apparently part of an organized vigilante group whose mission was to obstruct ICE by any manner necessary

The left believes that it's okay to ignore actual laws they don't like and make up ones that don't exist if it helps their cause.
