January 14, 2026

It's this blog's 22nd anniversary.

22 years of doing exactly this. Year 23 begins today.

The bloggiversary arrives 2 days after my birthday, but I didn't blog about my birthday — though I appreciated the birthday wishes that popped up here and there in the comments section. And it was one of those big birthdays, the 3/4 of a century mark, 75.

Here on the blog, it's the bloggiversary that matters. This is the milestone I choose to highlight. I'm delighted to be here to blog another day, Day 8,037.

Thanks for reading!

I cannot overstate how great the Althouse blog is. I learn something new and interesting every single day.

As great as Ann’s posts are (and they are uniformly great), I love much of the commentary as there is new and great info and interplay in them. That being said, I could use less of the personal attacks inter sese between commenters.

Last Friday, I filed the *best* brief of my legal career. Ann got a footnote, but much of the text was inspired by this blog. Ann’s blogging style has influenced me to be more creative in brief writing.

So here’s to the Greatest Blog in the Universe! Keep on blogging!

You are among the all time greats in this media genre we know as blogging. If there was or will be a Hall of Fame, surely your image would be hanging there. You are the Cal Ripken Jr. of blogging, though you've had more hits.

In all seriousness, we thank you for your unbelievable focus, resilience, determination, steadfastness (or is it stubbornness?), and consistently high quality selection of posts. We all learn something every day from this blog. So, Professor- you're still teaching.

Also- a shout out to the commenters you've attracted over the years. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I've learned so much from so many of them, and...went down more than a few rabbit holes because of some of them. But even when I don't comment, I'm reading it all- every day.

Thank you. Continue as long as it's in you. We're here for it. In celebration, I'm going to wear my paisley shorts today.

Congrats!! As some one who is about to retire after 40 years at my profession, I am impressed by the longevity of your 2nd act. I've always admired your committment, intellect, and passion, and have gotten much enjoyment from this blog.

Now fewer David French clickbait stories would be nice...

I've been following since 2011. Enjoy Althouse, Meade, and comment community. Some years I comment more than others. Everything seems like a tornado lately. Nothing much to say. Just pray.

I wasn't here for the VERY beginning, but I didn't miss out for long!

This is the only blog from those heady early years that I still read daily. It's not the only one that's still around, but it's the only one that has remained on my must-read list.

Thank you, Althouse, for all the news, entertainment, commentary, education, and - to my surprise - social interaction!

Happy Birthday and congrats on the blog anniversary! It's my 1st read every morning and a frequent check-in throughout the day.

Congrads. Never thought when I started reading you 20 years ago, you'd be still be writing. Or I'd still be reading.

BTW, this could go on forever if you could build a robot Althouse with AI intelligence.

Quite an accomplishment, Ann! I’m willing to wager that there aren’t many blogs out there that have flourished and remained relevant over such a long period. You were an early adapter, and will be the last one standing. Cheers!

Happy belated birthday, Ann - cheers!! 🥂

This is the best blog on the internet, and twenty-two year of commitment to anything is impressive. As always, thank you for your respect of free speech. The exchange of ideas is the foundation of erudition, and needed today more than ever.

Forgot to add. There’s a good bit of humor on this blog which I really appreciate.

Very glad that you've been around this way for over two decades Althouse. Thanks! I haven't left much in the comments. However as a goal, I do try to pop something on here once or twice a month - just to make sure that I still can. It's the ONLY place that I leave any kind of comment . . .ever! I've read this and Powerline ('cause I"m a Minnesota guy) for a long long time. So even though you are a Wisconsin woman, I still respect and admire you a lot.

Congratulations! I've been a reader for over 20 of those years--I used to read many blogs, but these days my only daily check-ins are you and Instapundit. Remarkable longevity.

My favorite entries are your close readings of news stories. Analyzing the language and exploring the possible reasons behind the choices made. No one else does that--not just no one does it better, no one dos it at all. The day you hang up your spurs, the genre will die.

So, Althouse for her 23rd year is once again posting in her prime. Might be somewhat odd posting, too, after the past year of being cruelly neutral, or as one might say, evenly treating all sides back in her 22nd year of posts. i, for one, also look forward to a year from now, when she will even the score, plus four.

I went back and tried to find my first post, but I haven't succeeded (yet). It's complicated by the fact that I changed my name and google account (I started out as just "Mike"). I know it was very early. I got here via Instapundit, who I was following from the beginning.

What's the "Google Takeout thing"?

Okay, so this cracked me up. AI is fucking with you, Althouse!

Law professor and blogger Ann Althouse married her frequent blog commenter, garden designer Laurence Meade, in August 2009 after meeting him through her blog, a story that garnered attention from The New York Times and the broader blogosphere. Meade had been a regular commenter on her blog for years before they connected offline and eventually married, a unique intersection of online interaction and real-world romance.

I discovered Althouse Playhouse in 2004, before the election. Have been here off an on through the years, also under some other usernames I cannot recall.
Earliest post I recall was when Ann described how and why she voted for president during her lifetime.

So the NYT has a wall, and they don't want you jumping it and reading their stuff for free. But they also do not enforce it. Webpage archive gives us old archived web pages. Very handy. Other websites block Webpage archive, so you can't jump their wall. NYT is like the Joe Biden administration. "Do not jump our wall. But if you do, that's fine."

I was an instapundit reader starting around Bush v Gore and 9/11. He linked often to Althouse which was much more sane and offered comments which Glenn Reynolds offered only later.

This is a great place to quickly take the news pulse if the world while offering light dopamine hits from the comment confrontations. So thanks to Althouse and You People.

I can't quite remember for certain how I first came to the blog but it was probably in following a link- it was definitely during the blog's first year. I only contributed, maybe, 100 comments or so during that first 10 years under "Unknown" but I was a regular reader of the blog and the comments by mid 2005. I started commenting more frequently during the primaries of the 2016 election. Still my favorite blog and pretty much the only blog I still read that isn't on substack.

Congrats! I love this blog! Unlike other conservative blogs (Legal Insurrection, Powerline, Instapundit, Tucker Carlson, Nick Fuentes, Candace Owens, Alex Jones, and many other "always Trump" blogs,) this place has always been a refuge where you are not required to be part of the "hive," part of the "Borg" (you must be assimilated!), or part of the Trump echo chamber. Please keep it that way. And all the best to you for providing this forum/blog. Please don't change.
