"'Gossip shows talk about her every day, about her outfits, about her stylist, about her appearances,' he said, a reference to Ms. Guilfoyle’s embrace of the Trump style for women..."

"... Rapunzel hair, false eyelashes, plumped lips, figure-hugging sheath dresses and high heels. 'In terms of public relations, she has done an excellent job,” [the Greek commenter said]. But the 'submissiveness' of so many Greeks lining up to meet her, he said, 'makes us look like a Third World country.' Mr. Georgiadis, the health minister, shrugged off the buzz. 'When she was first named, the people were, "What’s that?"' he said. But the early energy deals, he said, have proved that she has substance. 'If she delivers,' he said, 'who cares if she has a see-through dress?'..."

From "Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle, the Talk of Athens/The former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., and the former wife of Gov. Gavin Newsom, is working hard and pushing deals with American business interests. She’s also up late at parties" (NYT).

That’s what I always say, “If she delivers, who cares if she has a see-through dress?” So far it’s working out well!

Always first with the personal appearance when it's a woman (whatever that is). Men never get that, except for Gavin Newsom, but that because his appearance is all there is.

I remember her from The Five early days at Fox. She could hold her own in shoot from the hip, seat of your pants environment.

FWIW, there's also the likelihood that if she is one to wear see-through dresses, she just might, you know, be one to "deliver."

The NYTs fucked with that picture of her to make her look bad.

They upped the contrast. They are just terrible people.

“The Trump style for women?” Seriously? Is there any level of absurd pettiness to which the NYT will not stoop? What an embarrassment it has become.

Well, I'm going to take an opposition role here. I think she's a ghastly woman, hyper-ambitious, grasping. I think Trump might have given her this to get her away from his son, clear to the other side of the planet in a small irrelevant country. I see they forgot to mention this bit of recent history, wasn't she his fiance for a while? She's grotesque to me, the very type of scheming woman that plots her moves with reptilian resolve, then executes the ambush. She's one of those hamfisted sychophants that surrounded Trump in his first administration and were nothing but trouble, like that obnoxious shorty that only lasted a few days, what was his name? I've successfully repressed it.

Despite dating Don Jr. and being married to Newsom she is a smart lawyer and excellent communicator. She obviously impressed president Trump enough to spur him to employ her again.

No one had to fuck with her face beyond what she herself did, to make it frightful.

Then again, if she has a see-through dress, who cares if she delivers.

Well..... it takes more than a woman in a see-through dress to excite a Greek, from what I've heard.

It really creeps me out to think of her with Newsom. It's like remembering that old movie "Creature from the Black Lagoon".

I’m going to take the high road and not comment on her appearance as I do not comment on men’s appearances, except to call a male blood relative, a disgusting fat ass. So, what is she getting done; getting her President’s message out in front of all discussions, official and unofficial. Emphasizing to Greece and by extension Turkey and Italy, national sovereignty is not a sin. Fostering good relationships with the movers and shakers in the near East. Lastly, I am old enough to remember the NYT shitting all over Jean Kirkpatrick and Condoleezza Rice, so nothing new from the NYT.

Newsom's reptilian DNA is well establish in the scientific literature. It's believed to be an evolutionary adaptation to constant exposure to hair gel. "Dippity Do" in particular.

I want a girl with a mind like a diamond
I want a girl who knows what's best
I want a girl with shoes that cut
And eyes that burn like cigarettes
I want a girl with the right allocations
Who's fast and thorough
And sharp as a tack
She's playing with her jewelry
She's putting up her hair
She's touring the facility
And picking up slack
I want a girl with a short skirt
And a long jacket

I want a girl who gets up early
I want a girl who stays up late
I want a girl with uninterrupted prosperity
Who uses a machete
To cut through red tape
With fingernails that shine like justice
And a voice that is dark like tinted glass
She is fast and thorough
And sharp as a tack
She's touring the facility
And picking up slack
I want a girl with a short skirt
And a long, long jacket

I want a girl with a smooth liquidation
I want a girl with good dividends
At Citibank we will meet accidentally
We'll start to talk when she borrows my pen
She wants a car with a cupholder armrest
She wants a car that will get her there
She's changing her name from Kitty to Karen
She's trading her MG for a white Chrysler Le Baron
I want a girl with a short skirt
And a long jacket

The NYT comment section was harsh but the article was very positive. Probably because the Greeks really like her. She’s serious at her job plus the hoi polloi get a kick out of her glamour. Win win.

Why do people call this Trump style or 'Republican makeup' as I have also heard??...It's KARDASHIAN style, and it became the style of millions.

Ampersand said...

The lyrics quoted by Disparity of Cult at 1201 are absolutely apropos to the coverage of Guilfoyle. She's supposed to simultaneously epitomize both sexual desirability and business smarts. I can only do one of those at a time. And not all are in agreement with me on that point.

stunned said...

Kardashian style is the opposite extreme of the purple hair, "I am ugly and I don't care" style. Kimberly Guilfoyle, Sanchez, Kardashian and mormon tradwives on instagram are overdoing it. Both styles are repulsive to me.

For a while there, that over the top make-up was standard in Eastern Europe. Is it still? That would make a difference in the region's perception of her vs that of the East Coast U.S. Elite. Truthfully, I always liked her on The Five while wondering if she was a drag queen. Note, too, President Trump's first wife, and Don, Jr's mother was the heavily made up Ivana.

Not that the left would care, but if you watch The Apprentice or Donald J Trump's Wonderful World of Golf, 'Trump style' has always been Ralph Lauren or J. Crew. Think Karoline Leavitt. Ambassador to Greece, while I wasn't a fan, seems a brilliant bit of casting. Hard for the left to accept but ya know even the dumbest businessman in the world is good at personnel. Politicians suck at it, as they rely not at all on competence or talents...

I'd prefer US ambassadors be like Guilfoyle, even with the faux pas, weird visuals, etc. to a more decorous, yet treasonous scumbaggy sort, like ex-Ambassador Victor Manuel Rocha (GIFY) who was a Clinton appointee BTW.

Aggie at 11:04--on ambitious grasping women. I hate to break the news to you, but back in the day in San Francisco--when Kamala was Willie Brown's arm candy and side piece, Ms. Harris and Ms. Guilfoyle were duking it out for who would run the San Francisco District Attorney's office. Kamala was sleeping with Willie--Kimberly was sleeping with and married Gavin Newsom. As between Kimberly and Kamala, it's a tossup who is more ambitious and grasping. If you are talking "competent" Ms. Guilfoyle was, is and always will be more competent than Kamala.

And yes Greece is not really a Third World Country--but it's not quite hit the second tier either. I say that having a Greek son in law who ran a business in Greece and is now in the United States.

Plastic surgeons wrestle with requests for ‘Mar-a-Lago face’: ‘You’re going to look like Maleficent’ ~ The Guardian

If you find images of Ms Guilfoyle prior to her 'nip, tuck and botox' -- you'll see she was quite stunning.

If this look "swept America" it skipped a lot of NYC.

I see aggressive use of botox, but little else in common with this, let's call it what it is, '80s glam aesthetic, straight out of casting for a season finale of Dallas.

The pinnacle of NYC chic right now is to look fit and young, without looking like you are trying too hard.

Faces are smooth but make-up is tastefully minimal or, if you can pull it off, absent altogether. Hair is dyed (power blonde still popular) but not over-the-top styled. The more natural-looking, the better. The percent of women with grey hair has at least doubled since pre-pandemic days. Welcome to the club, I say.

Dress emphasizes quality materials. Luxury is quiet. The most stylish woman follows no trend, but dresses and grooms to accentuate her natural high points, looking assembled and smart. Comfortable and confident.

The MAGA look is "heavily worked on" and, in my view, is best summed up as geriatric male gaze.

Eva Marie said...

The idea that cosmetic surgery is a MAGA invention is so Orwellian.

OK, I clicked on the article. The writer needs to learn the old adage, “Show, don’t tell”. The Post would have got it right.

The amount of face and body changes in young women is alarming. Often it makes them unattractive.

In older people it does not change much. Only communicates an unhappy soul.

Guilfoyle is a quintessential San Francisco Catholic-ethnic petit-bourgeois. She's a parochial school girl (Mercy High), her father was an Irish-immigrant building contractor (totally stereotypical) married to her Puerto Rican mother and she grew up in a little tract home in the Avenues before moving to the burbs at Westlake.

That setup is 100% stereotypical, in a San Francisco context. At least half my kids classmates parents were her, in large part.

She is smart. Her education is significantly better than K. Harris and she was certainly a hard working hands on prosecutor and DA, unlike Harris the chair warmer. She is a vastly better public speaker.

buwaya said...

Age has done her no favors. She was quite good looking into her 30's but that jaw was always a problem. Otherwise she looks like a Catholic-ethnic petit-bourgeois in her 50's, one with money.

buwaya said...

Her background signals San Francisco Democratic machine, of the old school. Its no wonder she married Newsom, another of that type. The split comes from social-cultural change in San Francisco, and California.

buwaya said...

Tom Wolfe would have gone to town over the sociology of San Francisco power politics, and its corruption.

@buwaya, maybe you’re right, but the pictures I’ve seen online show a 56 year old woman (admittedly with plumped up lips) twith the figure of a woman in her early thirties. There’s even a picture of her in the dress in question — a tight, lacy number in black (or some very dark color) described in some publications as “sheer” or “translucent.”

Being a guy, I am not certain, but it seems to me if I had the figure of a much younger woman and totally rocked a dress like that then I’d proudly wear it too. But I’m not a woman.

William said...

I read the article. It's about as positive as the NYT can get for a Trump appointment. The article points out that she's an effective ambassador and has brought a bit of glamour and buzz to her posting. As a younger woman she was a knockout, and right now she can still function as a hottie. That picture does her no favors, but she's a very good looking woman.......Wealthy good looking women make heroic efforts to stay good looking. Maybe the game isn't worth the candle, but she looks like she's succeeding.

You can lift a face in an afternoon; lifting your VO₂ max takes years. Socrates called beauty “a short-lived tyranny” — true youthfulness lives in your heart, muscles, and brain, not just your jawline.

Kakistocracy said...

👆 There are some more fundamental aerobic adaptations that contribute to VO₂ max that take longer to develop, like mitochondrial and capillary density. You'd expect to see endurance athletes continue to achieve small improvements in
VO₂ max for two to three years after starting consistent structured training.
