"During the trial it emerged that when [Barron] Trump phoned the British police, he gave the operator the woman’s home address, rather than her actual location..."

"...  which was at Rumiantsev’s home. How Trump knew her address is... unclear.... On November 3, 2024, Rumiantsev 'flew into a rage' and smashed an air fryer after discovering the victim had used the word 'sweetheart' in a message to Trump.... Rumiantsev eventually admitted he was 'jealous to some extent' but claimed the woman was 'leading him [Barron] on.' He told the jury he was merely trying to make her understand how her behaviour looked to others. 'I want to just make clear that her actions towards [Trump] were wrong and it was not fair,' he said. On the night of January 17 last year the pair drank Korean wine, whisky and cognac ordered on Deliveroo. When Trump called repeatedly that evening, she did not answer, [the prosecutor] said. Rumiantsev’s jealousy... 'boiled over.' He spat in her food and kicked her in the ribs...."

I'm reading "Russian guilty of ‘jealous’ attack over Barron Trump friendship/The US president’s son ‘saved a life’ when he called 999 from America and provided crucial evidence that led to the arrest of Matvei Rumiantsev" (London Times).

So Barron took action to save the woman from a man who supposedly thought the woman was being unfair to Barron. Nothing excuses the violence, but I find it interesting that Rumiantsev was — in his version of the story — looking out for Barron.

He was just being a good boyfriend.

That's a novel argument. If it could work anywhere, it could work in Britain.

How Trump knew her address is... unclear

It's also simultaneously irrelevant and suggestive, which makes me wonder what the motivation was for putting it in the article.

I imagine his Secret Service agents can make a quick call or two and find out almost anything in a situation like this.

I don't think it's going to fly. He should have claimed to be Muslim.

the left: There must be a crime in this story beside the obvious one. Barron talked to a Russian!

only Hillary and Obama are allowed to talk to Russians.

Those Trump men are winners. The Russia guy’s jealousy was normal. And life goes on.

Any good Republican — and no Democrat — would have done the same.

I know. I'm just going to assume the delivery guys and ladies carry the food in their pocket.

"attempting to pervert the course of justice"
I like that British phrase.

Maybe Barron had sent her flowers or a gift at some point and had her address in his contacts as a result. Maybe he'd sent her a signed MAGA hat. He should send one to Rumiantsev in jail.

The media could have done a better job creating an anti-Trump spin out of this.

I hope Rumiantsev‘s first question when he found out she was talking to someone else wasn’t: Is he taller than me?

The answer to "Is Barron Trump taller than me?" approaches a truth value of 1. CC, JSM

When you're on trial you have to say SOMETHING.

What a weird irrelevancy. Does it matter why the guy was beating up his girlfriend (who had not, for instance, come at him with a cleaver first, which could change the calculus)? Did the guy's lawyer (whatever kind of legal advocate he had - I am colorblind in the British legal spectrum) think that "I thought she was leading another man on" was going to help his case? I am a huge blabbermouth, but if I were on trial for assault I would listen to my lawyer and shut the heck up.

Yes. I found during many trials that criminal defendants were prepared testify as to having noble motives. Bwahahaha!

Hopefully Trump has not texted her any messages that will be humiliating when exposed. And, should not be communicating with someone he has not met in person., unless he is using alias.

During his standout college football career at Notre Dame in 2012, Te'o was in a long-distance relationship with a woman named Lennay Kekua, who he believed had died of leukemia. It was later revealed that Lennay Kekua never existed and the persona was created by a man (now a transgender woman) named Naya Tuiasosopo."

Since this is a law blog: Barron giving the wrong address actually helps the prosecution's case. If it's a real emergency, she calls, has time to just say "help," the call drops, and Barron just assumes she's at home. As opposed to some kind of setup where she makes sure he knows exactly where she is. CC, JSM

Uh huh.

“This is for Barron! (whack!) And another for Barron! (thud!) And one more for the Trumpster! (crunch!)”

I’m sure that’s how it went down.

Its nice he was so concerned about Trump. Touching really. Too bad the "lesson" had to include a kick to ribs.

I would have thought that Melania would have taught Barron that women have to be taught to abide violent men, since she has been married to one for more than 20 years.

How did he get her address? Is that a serious question? He has a Secret Service detail; they probably have detailed info on anybody with whom he has routine contact.
