"Can I ask a question I have been dying to ask? You all might think it is a weird question but I've always been curious. What is your favorite time of day?"

That's the utterly inane question Dana Perino asked Melania Trump on "The Five":

That is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard on television. I don't intentionally watch news on TV — sometimes it overflows onto me — so I'm not the best judge of how close to the bottom that is.

For the record of things no one needs to know, Melania's favorite time of day is "very early morning." Why? Because it's quiet, you have your coffee, and you check your email.

ADDED: Of course, the film is getting terrible reviews — for example, "Melania review – First Lady is a preening, scowling void of pure nothingness in this ghastly bit of propaganda," by Nick Hilton in The Independent: "The 'film' is part propaganda, sure, and part sop to Big Tech companies who require constant regulatory approval for financial manoeuvrings. Even then, it is bad. It will exist as a striking artefact – like The Birth of a Nation or Triumph of the Will – of a time when Americans willingly subordinated themselves to a political and economic oligopoly.... Then again, perhaps Melania is merely a piece of post-modern post-entertainment. After all, it is transparently not a documentary. Melania spends most scenes playing a staged version of herself, and shots of the first lady are composed with all the deliberateness [the director Brett] Ratner brought to his work on X-Men: The Last Stand. This is somewhere between reality TV and pure fiction. As Donald and Melania waltz on the eve of their victory, a singer blares out: 'Glory, glory, hallelujah! His truth is marching on.' Whose truth it is, however, and where it’s going, seems beyond the power of this captured documentary to reveal."

AND: Rotten Tomatoes shows quite an extreme distance between the opinion of the film experts and the opinion of the humble moviegoers:

Re: Melania (the film)

I liked Katie Martin's comment on this Thursday's 'Unhedged' podcast: 'One review that I saw the other day said even if they showed it on a plane, people would still walk out.'

The issue isn't whether "Melania" is a good movie or a bad one. It's that one of the richest men in America, with business interests affected by public policy, gave the President's family $75 million to make it. Like that's somehow legal.

Isn’t this movie just a way for corrupt people to funnel money to Melania?

Achilles said...

Fox news is the same as MSNBC, it just has different people to lie to.

There are some talented hosts but the organization is run by globalist trash that thinks Americans are stupid.

Phaedrus said...

With no context about Dana Perino, I could see that being inane. The is not a novel topic for her. She is known for getting up early (she has her own show before The Five, much earlier) and this wasn’t the first conversation where time of day peak/ebb has been discussed around the table. And she has written several books where productive habits are woven throughout (as implied when she’s discussed content with the hosts from the same standpoint Melania is doing so about her movie). I watched that particular segment when it aired and as with book/movie all the questions were softballs but Dana’s question was pretty on brand for her.

This is unlike Barrack Obama who was a Netflix Puppet and Netflix gave him 9 figures of actual payments after his presidency.

Yes, Amazon MGM Studios reportedly paid $40 million to license the documentary film titled Melania.
Here are the key details regarding the deal:
The Total Spend: In addition to the $40 million licensing fee, Amazon invested an estimated $35 million in marketing, bringing the total project commitment to approximately $75 million.
Individual Payday: While the $40 million was paid to her production company, Muse Films, reports indicate Melania Trump herself is set to receive approximately 70% of that sum (roughly $28 million).
What it Covers: The deal includes the 104-minute feature film, which focuses on the 20 days leading up to the 2025 inauguration, as well as a follow-up docuseries scheduled for release later in 2026.
Bidding War: Amazon’s bid significantly exceeded other offers; it reportedly outbid Disney by roughly $26 million.
Controversy: The deal has drawn criticism from ethics experts and industry analysts, who questioned the "astronomical" price tag for a documentary. Some critics characterized it as an attempt by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to "curry favor" with the Trump administration.

The biggest difference between Melania and Michelle is that Melania had talent and drive and built some things on her own before she started dipping her beak in the bucket.

Melania is a corrupt hack but she has talent and works hard. Melania will turn that 28 million into more money most likely.

Michelle Obama on the other hand hasn't built a single thing that anyone else has ever wanted. Michelle Obama is a completely talentless hack that just took that 60 million dollars and started a crappy podcast where she whined about how racist the country is.

Everyone is corrupt. We are human. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 5 being average corruption most people rate a 5. because that is how distributions work.

Most of the people on this board would rate around a 3. We try to support ourselves but we will take a kickback every now and then. Trump rates about a 3. He is just better at the game than we are but he has actually built things and produced value in the world. Looks like Melania is in the same place now.

Sounds like a delightful evening too me. Cheers!

How much of the crap heaped on Melania is based on the ignorant attitude toward models: "Pretty Face - No Brains"?

Mostly expressed by jealous, insecure women and men with no hope of impressing such women.

Back in the long-ago, I shared an apartment with three girl models and had many friends in that community. Most were wonderful, genuine people.

Demands of the work require effort, stamina, creativity and cleverness that would overwhelm the teacher's pet in accounting, English and all gender and racial "studies" departments.

Stan Fields: Miss Rhode Island, please describe your idea of a perfect date.

Cheryl "Rhode Island": That's a tough one. I'd have to say April 25th. Because it's not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket.

It's amazing how pervasive politics can be. It can reach right down to the libido....In my opinion, Melania is a more attractive woman than Jill Biden or even that steaming sexpot Kamala, but many Democrats feel that she is unclean and unsuitable because of her intimacy with Donald Trump. She is unworthy of notice or praise......I can see how one would feel a little distanced from her. You're not likely to meet a woman like Melania in the line at the check out counter, but she's definitely good looking and, by all appearances, is a good mother.

What strikes me as truly perverse and demented is that many Democrats find Chelsea Clinton to be more attractive and simpatico than Ivanka. Ivanka seems like a nice person and that other daughter Tiffany is genuinely hot. It's madness to celebrate Chelsea over Ivanka, but that's what they do.

Well...the media not liking anything about Melania the movie, or the person, is hardly a surprise or new. Remember, these are the same people who insist that Michelle Obama is 'charming' and looks like a model.
I don't care about this movie. I have zero interest in the movie. But I do think Melania is beautiful, and seems like a very sincerely nice, and classy person- about as opposite from the scornful scowling Michelle Obama as possible. And I suspect the movie is not made for cinema reviewers or leftist columnists, but for the crowd that truly lives and breathes TrumpWorld.
The only thing I care less about than the Melania movie, are the cretins negatively reviewing the Melania movie. It's harmless. Let it be.

I wonder if Dem women find Hunter Biden more exemplary and worthy than Eric Trump. Maybe not. It's only the wives and daughters that get fetishized.

When we look back on presidents’ wives, we remember Jackie Kennedy. Not because she did anything, but because she looked like that. It will be the same with Melania. A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

A lot of the invective about models is well earned. Based on stories my partner has told me. She was one of the top models in Las Vegas, and was pushed hard to move to NYC by her agency (John Powers). After a week in NYC for Fashion Week, she said “never”.

But Melania earned Donald Trump. She met him, bought his book, studied it, and made him work for dating her. Reminds me a lot of my partner. She was smart beautiful, and talented. But when she met her first (late) husband, and he asked her out, she checked her schedule, and told him to call back in six weeks. He did. Took him three years to woo her. He was big, tall, had double dimples, a lot of Irish charm, and at 27, the youngest Executive Chef in Las Vegas. No one told him “no”, until she did. Very much like Melania, who wouldn’t give The Donald her number, but asked for his, and called him up a month later.

First time we have had real elegance in the White House since Jackie. Since then, Republican First Ladies have been dowdy, and Dem ones a step or two below that. Melania is never dressed wrongly. Her outfits invariably stand out. Perfectly coordinated. Amazingly, the only wife of a world leader, sitting in the first row, wearing the proper veil at a state funeral.

Eric Trump does the day to day running of the Trump companies. He pops by Trump International in Las Vegas every couple weeks, and talks to everyone. All the staff, even the Democrats, love him.

Funny story. One of the security guys there went to his first company picnic. And two guys were running the grill, dressed in wife beater undershirts and kaki shorts. Turned out to be the older two Trump boys. Don’t think at his height that their little brother will be able to pull that off. Even with a beard.

On Rotten Tomatoes the critics favourability is 11%. Customers is 99%. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/melania
Are critics like 'experts' now? Their opinions dictated by their peers and fears of social cancellation?

Thanks to Beasts and Meade for the kind words. None of those are ever wasted. You and many others here are worthy of envy, in many ways.

Meade's mental energy and agility are natural wonders. Few among us could keep pace (and, perhaps, set the pace, at times) with our lovely Hostess, who has no concept of a road not taken (and commented upon). Anne seems to have been listening when Yogi said, "When you come to a fork in the road; take it."

Y'all make the reading fun.

"Fashion Week" is a zoo. Models, other than the "Supers" are mostly commodities and coat-hangers. Money, ego and "Designers" rule. None dare hint that the Emperor actually looked better with NO clothes. It's astounding what some people put up with to be a part of this circus. At the high end of "couture", abuse is too mild a word.

My MIL was a top Powers Model in NYC. Many magazine covers and her pick of commercial work in the 1940s. She came from money and didn't have to put up with BS.

She lived with us the last year of her life and was still drop-dead-gorgeous at 89, and blessed with total recall and a razor wit. She knew all the A-Listers of the day and wasn't shy about spilling the beans. That girl could tell a story! I miss her.

Professional critics on entertainment are in the same category as professional pollsters: They are paid shills, and they are experts in the arcane technology of their respective bailiwicks, shaping public opinion and trying to steer it to the most lucrative acreage for their crop of grift. They aren't giving you their honest opinion any more than a professional pollster is trying to determine yours.

"That is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard on television."

I saw this hostile English TV interview the other day. The clip was on YouTube and the interviewer was trying to environmentally shame this carpenter because the young carpenter worked in wood. The interviewer was like: But you cut down trees. And the carpenter replied that it's sustainable because you can grow new trees. Then the interviewer asked why he didn't use concrete. The carpenter then replied, You can't grow concrete. And then the interviewer responded, "Yes, you can." The awkward silence after that was awesome.

"The walrus and the carpenter were walking hand in hand...."

Of course the press insipidly fawning over ungraceful Michelle Obama or over deer in the headlights halfwit Jackie Kennedy was not propaganda. Everything is propaganda these days. Pointing it out as your main theme only highlights your own bias.

Yeah I know it wasn't a "journalist" that asked. But the question was afforded a lot of air time to discuss.
