"President Trump unleashed a xenophobic tirade against Somali immigrants... calling them 'garbage' he does not want in the United States..."

"... in an outburst that captured the raw nativism that has animated his approach to immigration.... 'These are people that do nothing but complain,' Mr. Trump said at the tail end of a cabinet meeting at the White House.... 'When they come from hell and they complain and do nothing but bitch, we don’t want them in our country. Let them go back to where they came from and fix it,' Mr. Trump added as Vice President JD Vance banged the table in encouragement. He said Somalia 'stinks and we don’t want them in our country.' He described Representative Ilhan Omar... as 'garbage.'... 'She’s garbage. Her friends are garbage....'... Mr. Trump has used this kind of rhetoric throughout his rise in politics, including in his first term as president, when he demanded to know why the United States would accept immigrants from Haiti and African nations, which he described as 'shithole countries'...."

I watched this performance live yesterday, and I believe I said out loud, "He's choosing to resonate with racists."

There's a fine line between excusing massive corruption and being a co-conspirator.

The Nigerian Ibos/Igbos are a case in point. They are, well, black, and African. But as immigrants they vastly outperform other African or "black" groups. This is not so evident in the US, because there are relatively few here, but its well known in the UK.

I've met a number of Nigerian doctors in my career, and noticed that the Igbo are not shy about bragging about their tribe and its many accomplishments. If I recall right, they have an extra copy of a gene that promotes myelination of neurons in the brain, giving them a solid 20-point average IQ advantage over other sub-Saharan Africans, and even some of the subgroups of Caucasians.

Personally, I don't like sweeping generalizations. I also don't think referring to people as garbage is the way to go. Having said that, I learned a long time ago that I have no idea what Trump should do and say to achieve his objectives. If he'd listened to me in 2016, he'd have never gotten elected.
But our President's choice of language and tone is not even close in terms of importance to the fact that the Dems are way beyond plundering the national treasury. At this point they're tearing the wiring out of the walls. And the Republican Party is not helping because they're too precious to get in the fight.

Powerline has covered in great detail the extent and insidious nature of the fraud. $100 bills being shipped almost directly, in bulk, from Minnesota aid organizations to Somalia. Weren't 2 Somalis just convicted of fraud by a jury of Minnesotans last week, over $7 million, used to subsidize a luxury lifestyle? And a judge decided to overturn the verdict, rather than sentence them, much to the shock of the jury? Did Ilhan Omar marry her brother as a formality to get him on the path to citizenship? It begins to appear that these things are easily proven, but at the same time, protected from consequence using political power.

How long should things continue on this path?

boatbuilder said...

The Powerline guys are complaining that they've been covering this since 2018 and it's only now getting traction nationally (and they are not getting credit). There is a full public record through the federal prosecutions and convictions in the "Feeding our Fraud" cases, not to mention the rather dubious history of Representative Omar and her family. However bad you think it is, it's worse--and Timmy Walz is in it up to his bugging eyeballs.
Trump is banking on this getting national traction. He's helping things along.

From Grok:

“As of late November 2025, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reports an additional ~70 miles completed since inauguration (including the initial 36 miles in Arizona and New Mexico approved in early June, plus ~34 miles from September contracts in Texas' Rio Grande Valley sector).

This brings the cumulative "Trump-era" total to approximately **528 miles** (458 miles from 2017–2021 + 70 miles in 2025). These are primarily steel-bollard barriers, with a focus on high-crossing zones, funded via ~$4.5 billion in new appropriations from the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act."

Progress is on track for Trump's goal of 700+ miles by mid-2026, though environmental lawsuits and supply chain issues (e.g., steel tariffs) have slowed some segments. CBP data shows a 45% drop in apprehensions in newly fortified areas compared to 2024 levels, but critics argue it's still far from a "continuous wall" across the 1,954-mile border.”

Ronald J. Ward said...

I knew the rabbit hole was wide and deep but I have to admit to being a bit naive of the level of cognitive dissonance. One thing I’ve come to see in these conversations is that the sticking point isn’t the facts—it’s identity. If a fact clashes with someone’s political identity or media ecosystem, the fact gets rejected long before it’s even processed.

That’s not stupidity; it’s cognitive dissonance. It’s easier to defend the tribe than reexamine the belief.

That’s why data on immigration, elections, crime, or Trump’s own words never penetrate: you aren’t arguing policy, you’re protecting a worldview. And once grievance becomes identity, evidence stops mattering.

I’m not calling anyone names. I’m pointing out the mechanism. If the argument threatens the group identity, the argument loses no matter how solid the evidence is.

That’s the dynamic on display here every day.

Let’s take a look;

Trump’s own words make the policy goal unmistakable:

“I don’t want them in our country… Their country is no good for a reason… Their country stinks.”

That’s not a statement about criminal behavior. That’s a statement about an entire population. Once a leader defines whole nationalities as inherently bad, the enforcement naturally shifts from “remove criminals” to “remove that group.”

And that’s exactly what ICE data has shown all along- the proportion of arrests involving people with no criminal record at all rose sharply. That isn’t a moral judgment — that’s simply enforcement aligning with the rhetoric. If the stated goal is “I don’t want them here,” then the system will target the category, not the conduct.

That’s the parallel I’ve repeatedly pointed to, noting a well-documented historical pattern: when a leader paints an entire group as undesirable, individual facts stop mattering. The target becomes the group itself.

Trump never intended for ICE to remove criminals and very few of those removed were. If they do nab a criminal, that’s just a byproduct of the goal. He exasperated crime to appeal to the gaslit. His latest rant gave the game away. He wants them all out because of who they are and where they came from. It reminds me of a really deep Trumper who told me “I want every one deported to the point I never have to press 1 for English again”. And I suppose that resonates with several here. So be it, I’m not trying to convert anyone’s moral thinking. But just stop it with it being about crime.

That's different from supremacist. In any case supremacists would have to favor east Asians, who have a higher average IQ than whites.

It’s incredibly obvious for anyone living in Minneapolis that the Somali community has an assimilation problem. They are clearly exploiting Minnesota’s social programs because there is a fundamental disconnect between Minnesotan culture and their ideals. Social programs only work when stakeholders act in good faith.

Look no further than the rampant fraud and exploitation of social programs being disproportionately committed by a highly unassimilated ethnic group. Minnesotans have established a culture that believes in charity and goodwill in their state while it is evident that the Somalis living there believe in tribalism and taking for their own. The remittance numbers back to Somalia are staggering, especially given the proportion of Somalis living there on government assistance. The mayoral election was decided based on the tribal politics of a nation on the other side of the world. They also don’t vaccinate their children. Do any of these values sound compatible with what you think of when you think about Minnesota? They need to be looking out for each other as Minnesotans, not as those loyal to another country. It is evident that they care about their ethnic enclave and their homeland more than they care about Minnesota or the United States. A fundamental incompatibility with a proper society.

Mr. D said...

Very late to the party, but a few observations to share.

I live in the Twin Cities. I moved here from Chicago in 1992, around the same time as the first Somalis started arriving in Minnesota. I have met and worked with Somalis throughout the last 30+ years, but I can't say I'm friends with any of them. Perhaps that's my failing, but I think for the most part it's more a matter of insularity among Somalis. My impression is that, all things considered, the Somalis I've known aren't particularly interested in being friends, even if they are outwardly friendly.

So how does that play out here? Most Somalis you interact with are pleasant and decent people. Having said that, relationships have deteriorated over time. Some young men in the Somali community have taken a familiar immigrant path and have formed street gangs that have caused problems in certain areas of Minneapolis, especially near the University of Minnesota. Carjacking has been a big issue here and a good percentage of the perps are Somali.

The Somalis are only one of a number of immigrant communities in the area. The Hmong started arriving here about 50 years ago and while they maintain their cultural traditions and tend to live in certain areas only, they have done pretty well here. There is also a fairly substantial west African population here, particularly immigrants from Liberia. That group has done very well.

The other thing you have to understand about these communities is why they are here. Lutheran Social Services and Catholic Charities have, over the years, sponsored most of the immigrant groups who have come to the area. These organizations, and the faith communities they purport to represent, have inordinate influence in this region. While these organizations are ostensibly non-profit, anyone who pays attention knows that professional do-gooders make bank.

Are Somalis bad people? In the main, no. Are there a significant number of bad actors in their ranks? Absolutely. Does the self-satisfied white liberal gentry class protect them? For sure. Is Walz and his administration corrupt? It's not been proven, but that's the way to bet.

Trump has entered the land of Alzheimer's.

Is that what your Des Moines Register polling is telling you?

Count on The Daily Mail (!!) to provide the pertinent details that get glossed over by our corporate gatekeeper media:

This is actually a pretty good summary of what is really going on here.

Thanks to Trump's immature outbursts - we are no longer talking about the left's corruption."

Nope, now we are talking about what the NYT and the left MSM says we should talk about. Not you or me, just the rest of 'em.

"Trump just went on another insane tirade saying Somalis should not be able to run for Congress..."

You don't have to be an American to serve in Congress? When did that change?

Listening to NPR "All Things Considered" - surprise, surprise they did a four minute segment on Trump racist. However, during the segment to explain what set Trump off they also finally reported that hundreds of millions (billions) of dollars were stolen by a Somali fraud ring with 78 Somalis arrested. First time NPR has reported on air - about the theft of billions of government dollars.
Sometimes I think people give Trump too much credit when they say he is playing 3d chess - then something like this happens. Trump managed to get lefty media to cover a another major story they were ignoring.

How come nobody wants to hold Trump and Biden accountable for the COVID scam? The buck stops with TRUMP when it comes to COVID Scams. All of this shit happened under his watch and Biden just followed through.

Republicans used to be fiscally conservative because they knew that when you flood our streets with free welfare money you are going to get massive amounts of fraud with no oversight. Where was Trump when we were being robbed blind?

If Trump does what needs done, we will see the same reaction even if he said nothing about it. His words just chum the fish to biting.

Democrat outrage is like the sunrise. You can close your eyes. but it's still there, and nothing can prevent it from showing up every day. Who do we blame for the sunrise?

"“The only garbage I see floating out there is his (Trump's) supporters,” - Joe Biden October, 2024"

Hmmm. I wonder why nobody remembers this.
Trump supporters equal over 70 million Americans just among voters. How upset were any of you about that?
You see, this is why many of us just don't give a shit about stuff like this, because we know you really don't either.

Last I checked the fraud in just the "get your kid diagnosed with autism" scam was $370 million LAST YEAR.

At $10k / kid / year, that's 37,000 kids fraudulently diagnosed.

Out of a total Somali population of ~100k.

So we have ballpark 40k fraudulent kids. Assum 2 parents for every 4 kids, that takes us to 60k people involved int eh fraud, out of a "community" of 100k people.

Anyone got better numbers on the "fraud per kid"?

At what point do people assume sanity, and stop pretending that it's an "individual problem", rather than their culture sucks, and the whole community is bad?

It seems to me that Trump only wants white immigrants. As a matter of fact, I bet that if the perpetrators of the feeding our future scandal were white, Trump would pardon them, especially if they had attended an expensive dinner at his Mar-a-Lago Club.

How upset was I? Look at my avatar.
I laughed at it. If a piece of shit like Biden thinks I'm trash? That must mean I'm doing it right.

I only pointed it out to expose the hypocrisy of those faking outrage about what Trump said.

"What is the worst thing a white person can say about Somali culture without being racist?"

It hasn't done a lot of good for Somali's until some of them got to America, where it paid great dividends..

Well, there goes the Somali vote. How would Nixon have played it?

Crystallizing a commitment to actually remove underperforming immigrant populations no matter if they were granted any sort of quasi or even full-status permission by the Democrats. A vast majority ought to support this, but many are comfortably far from the biological warfare sites and many are women, who predictably are squeamish and not inclined to sally out and actually repel invaders.
