"Mr. Bongino’s obsession with his own image, as projected through a constant stream of gung-ho social media posts, landed flat in a proud law enforcement agency..."

"... where working hard and keeping a low profile has been a calling card of leadership. In a lawsuit filed in September, the former head of the bureau’s powerful Washington field office, Steven J. Jensen, said he was taken aback by the 'intense focus' that Mr. Bongino devoted to 'increasing online engagement through his social media profiles in an effort to change his followers’ perception of the F.B.I.'... Mr. Bongino... fell out of favor after lambasting Attorney General Pam Bondi over her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case — and alienating Ms. Bondi’s friend and ally, Susie Wiles.... Mr. Bongino’s departure represents a tempered victory for Ms. Bondi, who accused him in a contentious meeting over the summer of planting negative stories about her in the right-wing news media, after the Justice Department issued a memo stating that the Epstein files warranted no further investigation. Mr. Bongino, apparently upset by the exchange, did not show up for work the next day...."

From "Dan Bongino Says He Will Step Down From F.B.I. in January/The departure of Mr. Bongino had seemed inevitable since August, when the White House hired Missouri’s attorney general, Andrew Bailey, to share his job as deputy director" (NYT).

Lacking Gell-Mann amnesia, this story is just as dumb as the other one.

"Proud Law Enforcement Agency"

The swamp is too deep for Trump.

We need to take the next step in 2028. We should just skip straight to Pinochet at this point.

Laughable.

With Chris Wray still walking the streets a free man, I could give a flip what BS the NYT has to say about Dan Bongino.

"Dan did a good job" - Trump

It's not Dan's fault his clearance doesn't include SAP/SCI. You can't tie a man's hands and expect him to box.

RCOCEAN II said...

Its probably more likely that Dan decided to go back to his radio show and making $$. He probably also found out that he could do more as a radio host, and that the FBI Deputy slot didn't have the power he thought it did.

In any case, it looks like Wiles is the new "John Kelly" the Chief of staff, making sure that Trump doesn't do anything his base elected him to do.

RCOCEAN II said...

We should just be happy that Trump didn't get further in touch with his inner loser and re-appoint Barr as AG. Or reach out to chris Christie.

I didn't read the article. He might not have been a comfortable fit with the FBI. I don't think Trump will be around long enough to remake that organization in his image Hoover had thirty years to work his will........During the Hoover years, the left felt that the FBI unfairly targeted Reds and civil rights' activists. Perhaps, on occasion, they did. Perhaps, on a later occasion, a different generation of FBI agents following a different leader also let their zeal run away with them. For the record, I don't think that Tea Party activists presented the same threat as Communists.

Sounds like it didn't want the job anyway. But he sucked as a radio host. But he was in Rush's spot and who could follow that. Bongino is just too serious.

Chris Wray still walking free is an indictment of Pam Bondi.

And Kash Patel.

And of the man that hired them. Trump is failing to do what he promised.

This article fits well within my theory that all media have been secretly taken over by People magazine and TMZ. Fox News is now TMZDC, with a huge helping of NYC centered newsy bits.

Bondi is just Barr in a skirt.

She oversaw the first Epstein prosecution.

Achilles post at 9:35 didn't sound right. Gemini says (text bolded by me):

Pam Bondi did not have a role in the first Jeffrey Epstein prosecution and subsequent 2008 plea deal. At the time of the initial investigation and prosecution (2005-2008), she was a prosecutor in the Hillsborough County's 13th Judicial Circuit, which is in a different part of Florida.

The initial case was handled by local prosecutors in Palm Beach County and the U.S. Attorney's office for the Southern District of Florida, led by Alexander Acosta.

Bondi later served as Florida's Attorney General from 2011 to 2019, after Epstein had already completed his jail sentence in 2009. During her tenure as Attorney General, she faced criticism for not initiating a new investigation into Epstein, even as victims filed civil lawsuits and new evidence surfaced. Legal experts have stated that she could have theoretically pursued state charges, but her office did not open a new criminal probe.

Pretty much how I recalled it too.

Sorry. Not sorry.

Bondi oversaw the first NON prosecution.

It was clear during her time as Florida AG that the previous AG made a corrupt deal with Epstein to avoid federal prosecution and sweep his crimes under the rug.

She helped shut down the victim complaints and sweep it all away.

"We should just skip straight to Pinochet at this point."

Um. I *am* worried about an American Pinochet, but I see Trump as Allende. Think about it: the choice of the peasants vs "the people who always win" (as Isabel Allende called them). In Chile, in her telling anyway, the reasonably decent rich people couldn't bear the thought of being ruled by *those* people, so they made a deal with the devil and let Pinochet take over. Sounds uncomfortably familiar to me.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

The Feds (Acosta) made the "deal," Achilles, allegedly to ensure some time served since the FL state attorneys were prepared to let him walk. There's plenty to criticize Bondi for but she played zero roll in the first investigation. Maybe you are confusing her with Palm Beach County State Attorney Barry Krischer or lead ASA Lanna Belohlavek.

Cmon birdman. He only had the largest daily audience for his political podcast/radio show in the Country on the day he answered the call to DC.

Very perceptive. Certainly the election cheating and kitchen-sink prosecutions were a (relatively) bloodless attempt to Allende-ize him. I'm going to use that! CC, JSM

Christopher Wray would be a fine catch.
Almost impossible. First you need a grand Jury or some major evidence to indict him.
File under: Good luck.& never going to happen - with Bondi or anyone else.

Not sure why anyone would think you can round people up and put them in jail without due process. oh right - Jan 6th

I seem to remember conflict reported between Bongino and Bondi a few months back. (https://pjmedia.com/matt-margolis/2025/07/11/is-dan-bongino-quitting-over-the-epstein-client-list-debacle-n4941666 )

Evidently we are supporting the direction of Susie "Vanity Fair" Wiles and Bondi now.

The foot has been taken off the gas.

Of anything of domestic importance: file paperwork until the relevant Statute of Limitations runs out.

I believe Tulsi will be gone, next. For the same reasons.

I would like to believe otherwise.

Bondi may not have had anything to do with the Epstein case (not that I am going to take Gemini's word for it), but she was instrumental in helping Benjamin Crump pull off the Trayvon Martin hoax. She is a dirty bird. Although she is remarkably easy to objectify. I think Trump is kind of a sucker for babes.

Re Jan6 bomber. Was only after CIA woman was misidentified ny her gait that current FBI went down to the basement, blew the dust off the files in the old bankers box and identified the new guy through existing evidence. We can pretend there was continuous investigating but we know nothing was happening prior to Bannon claiming the woman did it.

Bongino lost millions taking that job, and he was a key player in getting Trump reelected, so he also lost a lot of impact. I would guess he was frustrated with both. I think he found the bureaucracy just to intrenched to fix, and he doesn't seem to be the type to go along to get along, especially when he's losing a fortune doing it. It was heroic of him to sacrifice in the attempt. There are far too few people who would do that.

Achilles said...

Kash Patel is flying on a private government jet to his girlfriends concert and doing podcast interviews with her.

Meanwhile he hasn't arrested or investigated really anything.

Kash Patel and Pam Bondi are complete failures and Trump is letting this happen.
