Melania Trump presents the White House Christmas.

I laughed when I saw the picture of Trump on the windowsill, like Trump — mugshot Trump! — is a Christmas character — along with Santa and Jesus. But on rewatch, I see the emphasis on the United States as a political entity, in its 250th year. And there's George Washington on the other windowsill as if the windows are a time line from the origin point in the past to the present day. We see Jesus, but not Santa. There's nothing aimed at children here. It's elegant, not fun or cute.

Melanie reaches out to one of the frosted white ornaments. There must be one for every state, because it says "Georgia." We see the slogans "Fostering the Future" and "Be Best." [ADDED: I said there is "nothing aimed at children" in the decorations, but both of those these slogans indicate programs aimed at children.]

The animal that represents Christmas in this display is a blue butterfly. Is that a real species of butterfly or just a monarch butterfly rendered in blue? I get the idea that the color scheme is red, white, and blue, so we can't have an orange butterfly, but there are some real blue butterflies, and I would think that the monarch is a bad idea, because of the recent "no kings" rallies and because orangeness is key to the butterfly's name, which is, they say, a tribute to King William III, Prince of Orange. Prince of Orange would be a good name for Trump, but orange is never going to be Christmas color. And we don't want an English King horning in on the 250th year of America's independence.

ADDED: This effort at an elevated Christmas inspires the Democratic Party to contempt: Of course, Republicans trashed Democrats a year ago when Jill Biden offered this tap dancing Christmas:

...yes there are themes but there's a blanket of Gotham stoicism to the overall aesthetic. I like it but can appreciate others may not. If you're hating because get Trump, know somewhere there is an Eat-A-Bag-Of-Dicks themed tree just for you....

It lacks the panache of Dr. Jill's "Tranny Christmas a Go Go!"

Ok, I'll admit it. I LOL'd when they showed the Trump mug shot!

Beautiful.

Was that Trump's mug shot? Ha!
Well, George Washington was a criminal too (or so say the Brits).

Very elegant and I think kids would be wowed by it too!

I think it's lovely and am content to enjoy it as it is. It would be nice to see it live.

There is a "Blue Monarch" but they don't look like that:

"Tirumala petiverana, the blue monarch, is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It is widespread in tropical and subtropical Sub-Saharan Africa. Their habitat consists of Afromontane, lowland and riverine forests as well as moist savanna."

Here in the US we do have a butterfly that looks a bit like a blue Monarch. It's called the Red Spotted Purple.

The Trump mugshot is like a cross-stitch or whatever its called. Artsy and fartsy.

Very nice. Very classy. I think the "Barney the Dog" Christmas videos were the best, but this is very good.

People need to understand that no matter what Melanie posted for Christmas - it would be mocked and attacked by the MSM and the Far-left. No matter what.

Althouse asks...
"Is that a real species of butterfly or just a monarch butterfly rendered in blue?"

The butterflies in the Papillon movie are likely morpho butterflies or other large, vibrant species native to the French Guiana penal colony environment. The specific "type" in the film refers to the butterflies caught by prisoners for a collector who paid them, which was a real practice and a potential means of funding escape attempts.

https://www.rainforest-alliance.org/species/blue-morpho-butterfly/

Real-life Basis: Historically, a French entomologist and exporter named Eugène Le Moult ran a significant butterfly business in French Guiana in the early 20th century, utilizing convicts to collect specimens. This activity was a rare opportunity for prisoners to earn money or good conduct points.

While the exact species isn't the main focus, the ones seen are large and bright (often blue in color grading in the film's scene) and are intended to represent the actual types found in the region that were valuable to collectors. The scene where Papillon chases a butterfly near a snake highlights the dangerous nature of this work in the jungle.

The butterflies hunted by the prisoners in the movie Papillon were a fictional plot device to suggest that the pigment in their wings was used for the ink in U.S. currency.

In the film, the character Louis Dega, a convicted counterfeiter, explains that the exotic butterflies found in the jungle of the French penal colony (French Guiana) are valuable for the unique, permanent pigment used to ink American money.

It is important to note that this specific use of butterfly pigment for currency is a creative element of the movie's script and is not a factual practice in real-world currency production.

Maybe the blue butterflies are used in digital currency, and Melania is trying to escape... the "penile colony"?

I get more of an Eva Gabor vibe - the real Eva, not her character on TV.

Beautiful. I love looking at decorations like that. I bring out a little two-foot tree already decorated that doesn't take up any room. We spend Christmas at my daughter's house so I don't bother with elaborate decorations anymore.

I've seen worse Christmas commercials than this one.

Okay--faced with the task (and probably anticipating the inevitable tacky and tasteless Dimocrat party attack) the First Lady produced a beautiful, if perhaps somewhat sterile, set of Christmas decorations. The lady has style.

Really? I never expected that.
Try to imagine something Melania could do that the Democrats would openly approve of, besides divorce or mariticide.
Yea, I can't think of anything either.

A little more refined than the last video I saw of her Christmas decorations at the White House. Lovely.

Barring some secrets revealed in a future tell-all book, Melania has been an excellent choice as a politicians wife. Trump is a lucky fellow, or he makes his luck of course.

I think both versions as depicted by the two videos were fine. Very different, but both OK.
I do question the obvious lack of diversity in the Biden version. Despite the numerous performers, I don't believe there was even one example of the most common American demographics. Seems discriminatory.

Here in L.A. we have the El Segundo blue and Palos Verdes blue butterflies, both endangered. They don't like the butterflies in the video.

Lem--the fact that all of these people (with the conspicuous exception of Matt Lauer--oops!) are still taken seriously by libs is proof that Gell-Mann Amnesia is a widespread and massive threat to the republic.

According to the Western Journal there was a subtle nod to Nancy Reagan: “The Red Room features historic cranberry trees, which were a favorite of former first lady Nancy Reagan’s favorite holiday decoration — her favorite color was also red.”

Melanie should be Melania.

I like that she reaches out for the Georgia ornament. Isn't that the case, now dismissed, which instigated the mugshot that now makes it on the mantle? One could even say "birthed" that mugshot...of the central figure of the season.
