Pancake ice is definitely something you don’t want to walk on but great for breaking up and clearing a little hole for hunting ducks, geeses, and legal fowl. The birds will lift off feeding grounds and be look for water and those little broken holes become a warzone! Had that exact scenario in Stuttgart, AR 2 years ago and it was the most incredible duck/goose hunting I’ve ever experienced.
Just don’t shoot those MAGA Swans. They are federally protected!!
There are swans on the lake! I heard what sounded like geese coming. I looked up and a flock of, I thought, white birds, were flying in the V-formation. They didn't go overhead, rather aways off, so didn't get a good look, but I wondered if they were swans.
You know it's really cold up north when the swans arrive. I haven't seen any goldeneye yet, but they can't be far behind. I don't wake up anymore at zero dark dark and twenty degreesF just to struggle into insulated underwear and waders to sit in a blind and watch Venus disappear as dawn breaks.

Haha. Make Duck Hunting Great Again! Great to hear from you, Phaedrus.
The icy waters dont bother the birds. Not cold wimps.
I was just thinking about this yesterday, looking at the pictures and wondering if any ice had become established yet. Won't be long now.
Wow…I lived in Madison for years and I don’t think I ever saw swans on Mendota. Another scene from the Global Warming horror movie.

Why is there a tank in the lake?
