In the lead-in she says she discussed the "Obamacare subsidies that are set to expire at the end of the year." I see it stated that way a lot in media. It's misleading. The only subsidies that are set to expire are the enhanced Covid subsidies enacted in response to the pandemic. The original Obamacare subsidies remain as they always were. D's are freaking because without the extra strong Covid enhanced subsidies, they cannot even pretend that the "care" is "affordable." Fact is it's not affordable now; the cost is just masked by subsidies and the cost has gone up every year under the ridiculous system.

I lectured my wife today, once again (!), on my belief that Trump is always in a negotiating mode. He has made several offers to Zelensky that have been rebuffed while Putin continues to strengthen his position in Ukraine. Part of my lecture was the question; " What if Trump decides to walk away from the Ukraine problem - leaving it in the hands of the Europeans?" ( In Labor 101 "walking away" is always a negotiating option.)The European powers are weak, Germany's armed forces are a skeleton of what they were 20 years ago. Only Poland seems truly committed to their own defense. If the US says it's had enough guff from France et al. and will no longer supply arms to Ukraine, France et al. don't have the ability to resupply Ukraine or resist Russia. It is unrealistic to expect Putin to give back what he has conquered. Someone in Europe has to face reality and push for a settlement before Trump says "I am walking."

If you read the whole interview, it appears that Europe's besetting sin is not excluding immigrants from black and brown countries. So Hungary, which does do so (and is also an authoritarian) state, is the best, in Trump's view. Seems to fit with Althouse's recent suggestion that Trump is aligning with racism wherever it can be found.

I can’t say I disagree with that. Actually, you’re all over it. Yes, the Basket has been groomed to hate Democrats. Yes, the Basket has been groomed to despise outsiders here legally or not, particularly those who don’t look like them.
But there’s one thing the Basket, like most Americans demand, is a good economy and cheep groceries. And you can’t get every Somalia and Mexican looking “garbage” out without those groceries rotting on the vine (metaphorically speaking), driving up prices while picking up the tab from the tariff tax hike.

It is apparently an illusion inspired by my hatred and cultism that I believe that the price of gas is considerably less than it was during the Biden Administration. Also that I believe that grocery prices are not rising at an outrageous pace.
I do seem to recall that the prices of just about everything, along with rents, home prices and mortgage rates, were rising uncontrollably during the specific period when the people now claiming to be concerned about "affordability" were running things.

What’s being ignored is the state of the economy when Trump 45 left office, how Biden turned that around, and how Trump is again crashing it.
Midterm electioneering is starting up, in the Legacy Media. Today, I read a WSJ article that is solemnly noting that 'prices aren't coming down, and inflation continues'. OK, then. Quick, someone tell me: When was the last time prices 'came down' on consumer goods - i.e., when was the last time the USA was in an overall deflationary economy?
In my limited memory, never. We've never seen prices come down - and we've never seen inflation -stop- . It just moderates, which is what I see it doing now, at something less than 3%. Anybody else have a different take? Did I miss a deflationary event in the past 70 years?
Trump never promised that 2020 prices were coming back. Last week he twice pointed out that economists say you need to have 1% inflation minimum (to prevent a deflation spiral due to nobody buying while waiting for prices to further drop). What Biden and the Democrat voters did to this country in 21/22, bringing back double digit inflation that had been dead for 40 years, is a PERMANENT down shifting of American wealth. What Trump can do to eat into Biden's 'inflation that will go away all by itself' is grow wages. That's it. If you're retired Biden and his voters picked your pocket.

The 15-point swing from Republicans to Democrats in pretty much every election since Trump took office means Democrats will pick up about 43 seats in the House if the trend holds through the midterm elections, giving them a comfortable majority.
Lots of House Republicans have seen the blue wave coming and are blaming Republican leadership. Expect the in-fighting to worsen in the lead up to next year’s midterm elections.
I watched the interview. She asked adversarial questions but in a respectful way. It didn't hurt that she's beautiful. If Alfred Hitchcock were alive today, he'd be looking to cast her for his next movie. She's the ne plus ultra of cool blondes.
