"Ex-Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore told mistress he was going to make her watch him kill himself — with butter knives, kitchen scissors."

That's the disturbing headline in The New York Post.

The inconsolable 39-year-old [Moore] allegedly burst into the apartment of his executive assistant and mistress, Paige Shiver, on Wednesday, where he grabbed butter knives and kitchen scissors and told her he was going to make her watch him commit suicide. Shiver, 32, had broken off the illicit tryst with her boss just two days before, prosecutor Kati Rezmierski said during Moore’s arraignment on Friday afternoon. The pair has been in an “intimate relationship” for a number of years, she added.... Shiver reported their relationship to the University of Michigan’s athletic department when Moore continued to call and text her, despite her efforts to ignore him, prosecutors said.... Prosecutors on Friday described to the court how an enraged Moore told his mistress, “you ruined my life,” and that he was going to kill himself and “make you watch.”...

Here, near Ann Arbor, this story is pretty-much nonstop. A bit tiring after the 4th or 5th rendition of events.

Maybe she misunderstood him.

Perhaps he had said that he was going to kill himself and “make you a watch."

Sure, seeing him kill himself would probably be traumatic, but I'd be curious as to what kind of watch he would've built.

Kind of a spin on Cleavon Little’s scene in “Blazing Saddles”.

A truly MAD affair. Mutually Assured Destruction. And the respective families are left with the shame, humiliation and devastation

Maynard said...

Cheating on your wife with a colleague (or anyone else) is not a simple thing. It destroys families and, in this case, destroyed a career.

My understanding is that the affair was widely known at UM. However, the administration only acted when Shiver complained.

In my grad school, professors routinely slept with doctoral students and everyone knew about it. Nothing happened until the late 80's (after my time) when students complained.

Several professors left for other universities and the one who stayed remained an associate prof for the rest of his career.

You bet the players and the university sports administrators knew about this affair. Let the lawsuit ensue.

Read that his boss questioned them this year about rumors and they both denied them. Meanwhile, he gave her crazy salary increase. Warned by colleagues he needed to have her reasigned away from direct report or terminated. He did latter, she retaliated by bringing proof of the affair to his boss, an and the guy he'd lied to fired him for cause. $5+m pa compensation lost.

In my trade, we usually see this sort of silliness in teenage girls whose boyfriends have failed to text them for a day or something, and it is called a "suicide gesture." It is almost always eye-rolling nonsense, of course. But, Sherrone, dude - butter knives and kitchen scissors?? You can now lay claim to maybe having just defined the quintessential one.

The old adage, "Never ride the working stock" comes to mind. Unfortunately this scenario plays out over and over again almost everywhere. Suicide by butter knife is a little bit out there---but ultimately one partner or the other tells their partner, "It's over".

Just like Gilligan's Island, Coach Sherrone Beasley Waterford Moore became entrapped in quicksand while chasing the "Pussycat Swallowtail."

Sounds to me that he ruined his own life, through a series of bad decisions. If guys would just learn to keep it in their pocket, the world would be a better place.

Tomcc said...

That's some poor planning. He might have noticed the situation at MSU a couple of years ago.

"...Beginning in the 2024-25 fiscal year, Shiver received a 55% salary bump, with her annual pay jumping from $58,025 to $90,000, the records show......When Moore decided to fire the woman instead of transferring her elsewhere in the football program or the athletic department, she reportedly came forward with details of their alleged affair....

Oh, brother. I really miss college football since it went Pro.

Was he actually a good coach?

Curious why he got hired in the first place.

More evidence that we really need to give Scott Adams his cartoon back.

NPD, BPD, going to blame his unhappy childhood for his choices and attitudes in life. Loser. Grandma gonna come out saying he’s “autistic-like.”

FAFO. Literally.

I'd sentence him to time served. He's lost his marriage and his career and he's being fined, in effect. millions of dollars. Hard time in prison would not be his heaviest burden.....On the plus side, the woman he was involved with is really cute so it wasn't a total waste.

He was hired as offensive coordinator. Made $1+m in 2023 the year Michigan won national title. Head coach left for pros after and he promoted. Sounds like affair started around then

So I guess he fired her after she broke off the relationship. And he paid the price, when she retaliated.

Good for her. If you can't treat your mistress right, you're probably unethical.

RCOCEAN II said...

Give him points for wanting to kill himself instead of her.

Narr said...

So what is coach being prosecuted for anyway? Fucking younger white bimbos isn't a crime, is it?

Goldenpause said...

No one at Michigan noticed that this was going on? Sure. The AD has some explaining to do.

RCOCEAN II said...

Arrested for Stalking, home invasion, and breaking and entering. If he was in NYC or Chicago, he'd be out on street in an hour. After an apology from the Judge.

But since its Ann Arbor he might be in trouble.

Butter knife - weird. Kitchen scissors - depends. Are we talking utility scissors, or butcher scissors? The latter can really rend some flesh. Might be able to cut your wrists or even snip the jugular. Or cut off enough fingers to bleed out? Not usually very sharp points, but a football type still might have the strength to do hara-kiri with them.

If both sides agree that he broke in to threaten to kill himself, though, I wonder what criminal statutes he really violated. Not burglary, since it requires the intent to commit a felony inside. As unsympathetic as he may be, he would be a good candidate to be channeled into the mental health system instead of the penal. CC, JSM

He wasn't so much hired as he was there when Jim Harbaugh left. He was a mediocre OC. Jesse Minter was the DC and Harbaugh took him to LA. Why didn't he take Moore?

Josephbleau said...

He was just a self entitled guy who thought he was owed some pussy.

Are we sure she was a mistress and not a common law wife?

Readering said...

Married with three kids. Rumors about mistress pregnancy and abortion.

Guessing Michigan head coach in 2024 paid much more than pro offensive coordinator.

Wilbur said...

One thing occurs to me: if I assume correctly the woman was employed by the Athletic Department, not by Moore personally, then how did he have the power to fire her?

And ...
The Michigan statutes on Burglary (https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-750-110a) and Home Invasion (https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-750-110a) are a worthwhile read, especially for those who opine or attempt to inform on these statutes.

Better he should have threatened to use a butter knife or kitchen scissors to shave off that ridiculous beard-ish looking thing stuck to his face.

It appears a number of the people on Jim Harbaugh's staff at Michigan (including himself) had personality disorders.

Never forget that the woman could be lying about the threat to kill himself. Per Grok, no independent eyewitnesses or video footage of the exact threat have been publicly referenced.
