Question 1 (to Trump): You called him a communist! Question 2 (to Mamdani): You called him a fascist!
Trump: "And I've been called much worse than a despot, so it's not — it's not that insulting."
Later, Mamdani is pressured again: "Are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist?" And Trump breaks in: "That's okay, you can just say it. It's easier than explaining."
Trump and Mamdani displayed their unity: They're both practical and they both want what's good for New York. The press kept confronting them with the way they've insulted each other, but neither man took the bait. They were stunningly relaxed and friendly and entirely able to slough off each other's political remarks.

Trump is going to build Mamdani up because it will force the Democrats to choose between the populists and the donors.
New York will do better under Mamdani than it has under the Democrat Oligarch pets. It wont do well, just better.
Republican voters took the party from the Oligarchs. Now Democrat voters are doing the same.
The problem is Democrat voters are kinda dumb.
Love em or hate em, I can't remember any other president being as accessible as president Trump. Something that not even a grassing bullet has chanced.
What's amazing is that Democrats will actually be surprised when Mamdani's promises turns out to be complete B.S..
It's like being surprised that the homeless guy you brought home isn't really a talented artist.
Mayor-elect’s supporters didn’t tar and feather him for one of the quickest renege on promises this century? Do they stand for anything?
…looks like he’s ready to cooperate with Trump, too. Trump!!!
"...And Trump breaks in: "That's okay, you can just say it. It's easier than explaining"... (the obvious to these morons)
Guy holds a press conference just about every day and takes on all comers, any questions. And he only dishes back what he gets. Play the fool, and you'll get treated like one. I like that. Who doesn't like that? Why?
Mamdani is an empty suit, and he's not going to be allowed to run anything except photo opportunities. The only thing he brings to the table are his high society connections.
ital's off.

I do find it really hilarious to watch Mamdani stand there looking like a page boy nodding and kissing the ring when half of Mamdani's voters danced when Kirk was killed and cursed Crooks for missing Trump.
Grok tells me it's not likely that Staten Island will secede from NYC due to lots of political hurdles. I also wondered whether Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx might try to secede.
Favorite academic Marxist praises Mamdani as the new philosophical, rhetorical and pragmatic genius on the left. Worth listening to for a while for a calm presentation of the other side.
Trump is likely to use some of it in his own way for his own policies against it. Hence what Mamdani's doing in the White House.
And Trump breaks in: "That's okay, you can just say it. It's easier than explaining."
The left is always talking about how thin-skinned Trump is. That doesn't sound like something you'd expect to hear if that was true.
Mamdani touched the topic Trump can’t resist - Real Estate.
Mamdani may have reminded Trump that the value of his commercial property portfolio depends on New York's ongoing attractiveness as a place to both live and do business.
This means that major infrastructure improvements, like better subways and finally finishing the new rail tunnel under the Hudson river, would be entirely in Trump's own best interests.
It's depressing that intelligent public policy should have to be framed this way, but greed and self-aggrandizement are Trump's primary motivations as an increasingly volatile and cranky nearly 80 year old man.
Republican campaign consultants built their entire midterm strategy around demonizing Mamdani — making him the devil incarnate and the face of the Democratic Party — and then today Trump showers him with praise in the Oval Office.
Trump knows a whole lot more about how NYC works than Mamdani ever will.
one only hopes, Gotham was returning to some degree of normaility, under Adams, but then they chose poorly, in Mamdani, and there will be 'gnashing and tears'
will the cobra be devoured by his own 'state tuned to this same bat channel' for updates,
one recalls that ray kelly, sought to work with wilhelm, but in the end, that did not pan out,
Mamdani: “My team reached out to the White House because I will work with anyone to make this city more affordable,” he said in New York. “I intend to make it clear to President Trump that I will work with him on any agenda that benefits New Yorkers. I’m not concerned about this meeting, I view this meeting as an opportunity to make my case, ~ ABC News NYC
Karoline Leavitt on Thursday said: “It speaks volumes that tomorrow we have a communist coming to the White House, because that’s who the Democrat party elected as the mayor of the largest city in the country. President Trump is willing to meet with anyone and talk to anyone and to try to do what’s right on behalf of the American people,” she said, adding that New York City was “becoming much more left than I think this president ever anticipated”. ~ ABC News NYC
Hilarious and absolutely brilliant move by Mamdani's team. When I heard about this, my first, second and third thought were "bad idea". Maybe this situation ages poorly too, and it seems like conflict is inevitable at some point. However, someday it will be interesting to hear the story behind this. Clearly part of the equation is the New York State of Mind -- brash, aggressive, and take no prisoners attitude. A trait that both Trump and Mamdani have in common.
The “press” just can’t suck enough. A goddam middle school newspaper has more competent reporters.
you know right, j jonah jameson, would beat the reporter into an inch of their lives,
… allegedly.
When the commies and the fascists get together, nothing good can come of it.
The fascist embraces the communist! LOL! It can’t get any better. Trump knows his approval ratings are crashing and he needs a lifesaver. Mamdani meeting Trump…brilliant. All the Trumpers who were so sure Mamdani would be the end of New York, must now feel a bit better because Trump is on his side now.

good questions
At the Al Smith dinner, Trump told the mostly hostile crowd that when he was elected he would work with anyone and everyone to Make New York City Great Again. He sounded like he meant it. He's giving Mamdani the opportunity to not screw himself. NYC needs Trump way more than Trump needs NYC.
Mamdami and his supporters will, of course, make a collossal hash of things. And Trump will say--I did what I could.
No I don't think Mamdani wants good for new york, he made it clear, he despises the city, kind of like the nolan iteration of the joker, also liam neeson's character,
Mamdani was clear about the affordability issue, he talked about Trump supporters telling him they voted for Trump because they thought he’d help make things more affordable again. Of course, Mamdani was polite and didn’t say that those Trump supporters now feel abandoned by Trump. Gaslighting his own base about the price of groceries didn't help Trump and I suspect Trump’s advisors are saying it’s time to stop that nonsense.
I actually think Trump likes and respects the charisma and "winning" of Mamdani.
Mamdani bullied his way through a ton on money and lies about him. Both beat both political parties. We’ll see how they get along next week, but right now they saw an opportunity in being civil to each other.
"Trump told the mostly hostile crowd that when he was elected he would work with anyone and everyone to Make New York City Great Again. He sounded like he meant it."
Trump would have worked with the Democrats, too. But instead, they impeached him and then tried to kill him.
al Qaeda won 9-11. That much is clear.
mustafa setmarian, the michael Moore look alike terrorist,
had this type of operation involved in the subversion of the West, when direct action did not succeed,
“Trump would have worked with the Democrats, too. But instead, they impeached him and then tried to kill him.”
Oh bullshit. It’s time for Trumpists to stop with the nonsense of blaming Democrats for assassination attempts on Trump. It’s not believed by most people and repeating it doesn't help prove it.
If Mamdani wants what's best for NY, then he will have drop all his campaign promises- all of them.
Oh, no, Democrats would never ever try to kill literally Hitler.
Mamdani may have reminded Trump that the value of his commercial property portfolio depends on New York's ongoing attractiveness ....
Tell us Kak, how much commercial property does Trump hold in NYC, in the context of his portfolio in the rest of the world? Details, please, since you're pontificating from a position of insider expert knowledge.
Meanwhile other airheads wish-cast Trump's 'desperate' political situation - the one that nobody normal can see, it's only visible to members of a certain, shall we say, 'cult'.
how many brain cells do you have to sacrifice, to make those earlier statements make sense, they will demonstrate,
Trump is far underwater in his approval ratings with independents. I suspect that Trump’s advisors have counseled him to back off the more extremist rhetoric, like charging sitting Congress members with treason and calling for their deaths. Plus his gaslighting of his own base with lies about how things are so affordable now. The extra judicial killings of men in boats in the Caribbean among other extremist agendas will need to be looked at again by his administration.Trump is going to have to win back a good portion of those independents he lost over the last 10 months. He’s gong to be reaching out to more independents and Democrats if he doesn’t want to lose big in the midterms.
Trump would have worked with the Democrats, too. But instead, they impeached him and then tried to kill him.
Mason G.--If I recall correctly (big if) the Al Smith speech was after the impeachment, but during the time that Letitia James (who was there) was prosecuting the "civil fraud" mortgage case against him. It was after the assassination attempt.
Trump is looking forward to watching New York peel the bark off the stinking Commie.
Igna the Independent-whisperer.
Trump underwater in every national poll
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fox-news-poll-voters-say-white-house-doing-more-harm-than-good-economy
By a nearly 2-to-1 margin, voters say Trump is more responsible for the current economy than Biden (62% vs. 32%). Unsurprisingly, there’s a large partisan gap, as Democrats are nearly 40 percentage points more likely than Republicans to blame Trump. Somewhat surprisingly though, 42% of Republicans blame him, while a 53% majority says Biden is responsible. Among independents, 62% say Trump and 29% Biden.
So now, Mamdani won't be able to blame Trump when socialism doesn't work. Trump has basically offered to work with Mamdani on realistic plans to make NYC affordable. "Let the guy succeed if he's pragmatic" [something no lefty can be.] That's my read.
BTW
Mamdani's oath of office has him promising to uphold the US Constitution. Trying to arrest a head of state coming here under a treaty signed by the US would violate the Constitution. I guess maybe a judge in Staten Island could enjoin that.
The "fringe" on either end constitutes more than a majority at this point. That reality is a direct byproduct of the "successes" of neo-liberalism over the past 40+ years. Undoubtedly there were winners during the period. However, if the "winning" constituted a majority, we wouldn't be in this position right now.
Liberalism may have a renewal at some point. However, it will never happen as long as liberals continue to deny the laws of causation.
Achilles,
My first thought was that you are off the wall.My second, more considered thought was that you may be on to something.
Igna,
My first thought was that you are a freaking idiot. My second, more considered thought was that you are a freaking idiot. And crazy to boot.
Take your meds, drink your wine and go to bed Igna. You tend to get more manic as the night goes on.
Maynard, my first thought whenever I see your name is “I sure hope his wife’s daughter isn’t home alone with him”.
Inga, you've descended into a hole that you may never come back out of. You're a more pleasant idiot when you feel like you are winning.
When a communist takes over a government they need to start shooting some kulaks fast or the proletariat is going to do their own shooting. Perhaps hating Jews will make enough of his base happy for a while.
A “Communist” and “Fascist” meet and find common ground?
When was the last time that happened? The Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact?

I heard they walked into a bar...
Reminds me of something I read last week. The Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street folks were angry about the same thing: the Bush/Obama bailout of the "Too Big To Fail" banks and investment banks and insurers that caused the whole 2008-09 crash. The deep corruption of both the Republican and Democrat Parties was plain to see. The Neocon foreign policy's continuity of wars from Bush through Obama made the charade of electoral choice even clearer, at least to anyone willing to drop the partisan blinders. Bushes, Clintons, Obamas and Bidens. (And don't forget Gore, Cheney. McCain and Harris.) These are the best and brightest our Establishment can come up with. Is it really any wonder that a complete outsider like Trump or Mamdani can knock over these husks?
This is a genius move on both sides. I hope both succeed.
They're both practical and they both want what's good for New York.
@Althouse, point of information. Communism is not practical. Neither are communists.
Inga still buys the Jussie Smolette lie/ fraud. The Russian collusion hoax... and all the other BS.
Never forget, at one point during the Russia Russia Maddow hysteria, Inag actual said that there were accounts of Russian Oligarchs talking about Trump on a yacht. somewhere.
Inag will never admit that Robinson is a leftist with a furry BF.
Who etched "Hey Fascist, catch" on his bullet (along with other hate/leftist rantings. ..and his texts revealed much worse - and he was a known REDDIT leftist.
She will search high and low for any conspiracy to save her dark evil party from blame.

Exactly what someone responsible for an assasination action attempt (2 of them) would say.
Good Lord.
Inag posts a link and this is the sub-head she leaves out:
"Fox News Poll: Voters say White House is doing more harm than good on economy
The government shutdown damaged voter views of lawmakers, Sen. Schumer in particular
& this
After the government shutdown, the GOP and the Democratic Party have lower favorable ratings, and roughly 6 in 10 say the president and lawmakers on both sides don’t care about people like them.
— Voters think Republicans have a better plan for border security, immigration and crime, while Democrats are seen as better on affordability, wages, healthcare and climate.
"Affordability" to the left means - government funded housing. Not a good place to go.

Right on.
Inag is in complete denial that her side's violent rhetoric has cause and effect - or that the dark side of the mob Soros-left could possibly recruit and inspire 20 year old assassins.
Avuncular.
Biden / covid left our nation a complete shit show.
Trump didn't fix it in 34 seconds.
If you're keeping score at home:
Welcome in Trump's Oval Office: Communist Muslim extremist (Zorham Muhammed)
Not Welcome in Trump's Oval Office: A Republican (MTG)
Peachy@8:59pm… YES! That’s basically the situation.
Too much Igna. Should be a rule that you can only post x comments per topic (10?). Otherwise its just people sniping at each other, adding little value.
I'm with Joe Bar.
6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.
9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.
NYC has been destroyed with rent control, unions and normalization of corruption. Nothing will change that.
