Wince said...: JUSTICE SOTOMAYOR: I'd like to go back to Justice Barrett's question on the word "license" as used in IEEPA. It's not used as a verb. It's used as a noun. By -- "the President may under such regulations as he may prescribe by means of instructions, licenses, or otherwise," then do what the verbs permit him to do. By license, he can nullify, void, prevent, or prohibit any acquisition, et cetera. So "license" is not being used as a verb, that through licensing he can raise revenue. He can only use licenses to accomplish the verbs. So I don't understand how we can treat licensing as equivalent to revenue-raising as used in IEEPA. The license is only to accomplish what (b) permits.

Howard said...: Glenn Greenwald's podcast today outlines how in early November right after the election of Donald Trump, Mandami went to Queens and interviewed people on the streets asking them whom they voted for. He was mostly interested in finding out why all of these low-income and mostly minority foreign sounding for looking people would vote for Trump.

So yeah, the Democrats need some new blood. Zohan may not be the best representative to pull it off, but he had the balls ambition and organization to be elected mayor of New York City out of basically nowhere.

If you're not impressed with that accomplishment, you really are a worthless pile of resentful insecure blubber complaining and whining as you fade into a long slow painful illness with a dementia cherry on top.

Of course being 85 doesn't mean that you have less capacity and energy than you did at a younger age, but it's nice at that point to consider stepping out of the way to make room for youthful 75 year old members of Congress.

If you listen to it, you'll learn that the world's birthrate has been declining since 2013, birthrates are down globally, and that the only reason the population grows is because fewer people are dying.
