We were approaching moonset at 6:26 this morning.

Actual moonset time was not until 8:18. Sunrise was 6:38.

Under normal conditions a partisan gerrymander should create more seats for the normally dominant party.

However, in massive wave election against the dominant party, the gerrymandering party could actually lose more seats than it would under a more neutral map. e.g. in a wave election where the opposition party enjoys a 10 point shift, and the partisan districts have a buffer of 8 points for the incumbents, you end up losing more seats than you would in a more neutral map where the buffer is 12 points.

These things almost never happen. But there are times when Trump has the anti-Midas touch. His push for a gerrymander has not only encouraged Democrats to ditch non-partisan maps in states controlled by Democrats -- the big one being California, which should increase the number of Democratic House members just by virtue of having a new partisan map -- Trump's pressure is also encouraging Republicans to reduce their own margin of safety in an effort to manufacture seats in the House of Representatives.
