"There's no question New York is facing an affordability crisis.... Kathy Hochul made New York the most unaffordable state in the nation, crushing families with sky-high taxes, unaffordable rent, soaring energy costs, and record high grocery bills and cozied up through a defund the police, tax hiking anti-semitic communist.... Elise Stefanik will make New York affordable and safe.... We are the most unaffordable state in the nation because of single party Democrat rule led by Kathy Hochul. As a working mom, congresswoman, and fighter, Elise knows families need more help, and she'll make New York affordable.... With everything on the line, we need someone who will deliver results and make New York affordable and safe for families and small businesses to not just survive, but thrive...."
So Mamdani just got elected on the promise of making NYC affordable, and he needs to work with Hochul if he is to get anywhere toward fulfillment of the promise, and Hochul has Stefanik hot on her heels, so Hochul is powerfully motivated to help progress toward this affordability in the coming year, running up to the 2026 election. Hochul must act. Stefanik will say she's doing it all wrong, and with Mamdani — "the communist" — as her partner in affordability-seeking, she probably will be.

That seems like the type of advice mentioned on the last two Triggernometry podcasts. Use their language to reach voters.
It's just a matter of showing that while people might have common goals, the ways and means are different. Alinsky is a formulaic trap. Trump's paving his own way successfully by being WYSIWYG
For the Democrats, Alinsky extremists are ultimately their Achilles heel.
Trillion dollar slush funds at the national level make city level communism work. Hence the shutdown…
In the late 70s, there was a killing coffee frost in Brazil.
The price of coffee skyrocketed.
Yet you could buy all the coffee you wanted. The shelves were full, just shorter shelves.
People were buying less coffee, in just the right amount to meet the coffee available.
Obviously the poor could no longer afford coffee.
Suppose the government started a coffee aid program for the poor.
If you hand out free coffee, very fast you run out of coffee.
Suppose, instead, at the door of the supermarket, the poor are handed $10 for a pound of coffee.
Will the poor buy coffee?
No. They have a better use for $10 than coffee at $10 a pound. They prefer something else to coffee at $10.
That is the meaning of "can't afford." The price is such that they have a better use for the money, not that they don't have the money.
"So Mamdani just got elected on the promise of making NYC affordable, and he needs to work with Hochul if he is to get anywhere toward fulfillment of the promise"
You are insane if you think those two, together or separately, can in any way make NYC "affordable."
You are insane if you think those two, together or separately, can in any way make NYC "affordable."
I don't know... Democrats have a curious way of redefining words to mean what they need them to mean.
So, we can't have a gay old time?
If New York is the most expensive state in the nation that means it must be the best state in the nation.
“Obviously the poor could no longer afford coffee.”
When I was young ‘n’ poor we didn’t have no coffee… couldn’t afford it. We drank Postum and chewed broken glass. And we LIKED IT!
How?
All government can do to make things affordable is to get the hell out of the way, less regulation, & lower taxes. Nothing else they can do that will make things better, but this is the last thing they want or know how to do. The real answer is to make more money and/or control and prioritize your spending.
Things will not get cheaper. They never have, yet politicians have used that promise since eggs cost you hand full of salt.

You know, as in "Affordable Care Act".
I discovered a few months ago that for the political class, "affordable housing" is now a euphemism for "government subsidized." Be warned!
No men willing to run. "Fuck it."
It gives me no pleasure, but we may need to face it. Margaret Thatcher was probably a one-off.
From what I have been reading, high-end residential real estate is already getting more affordable in NYC. And I think it is entirely appropriate for Mamdani to take credit for that.
The last time I was in NYC was over 10 years ago. Everything was 1.5 - 2x more expensive there, compared to home. I seriously doubt that has changed, or will change. I was glad to leave, after a week, although I enjoyed the experience. Tax harder ! That's the ticket: Good & Hard.
If New York is the most unaffordable state, California is giving it a run for its money. Isn't unaffordability the mechanism they use to keep the riff-raff out?
Howard said... Alinsky is a formulaic trap.
Alinsky wasn't about governing, he was about agitating. His methods were Machiavellian--what's good is what works. Above all, Alinsky tactics rely on only one group employing them while everyone else plays by traditional establishment rules. If everybody starts using them, society falls apart.
I discovered a few months ago that for the political class, "affordable housing" is now a euphemism for "government subsidized."
Government policies that require subsidies are, by definition, not affordable.
Living in New York City should be affordable -- all you need is a rent-controlled apartment and a high-paying creative job, close to Trader Joe's. If not everybody has that, there's clearly something wrong... but the new mayor has promised to fix that, so everything's fine.
"but the new mayor has promised to fix that"
With the "fix" being the encouragement of everybody who doesn't have those things to move elsewhere.
Stefanik will have to distance herself from Trump to win in New York.
““Talk about the cost of Thanksgiving, and the cost of living through Thanksgiving.… Our energy costs are way down, our groceries are way down, everything is way down. And the press doesn’t report it,” the president said last evening while taking questions from reporters. “You know, I call the Democrats conmen and women, they make up numbers. But when you look at the 25 percent reduction in costs for Thanksgiving between Biden and me … it’s the biggest reduction in cost in the history of that chart or whatever it is they do.”
The Thanksgiving cost numbers Trump is touting come directly from Walmart, which is selling a $40 Thanksgiving basket compared to a $55 one last year. But this year’s meal has less food in it too.
(21 items last year and brand name foods, this year it’s 15 items and generic brands.)
“So I don’t wanna hear about the affordability,” Trump continued. “We’re getting close to $2 a gallon gasoline. With Biden it was $4.50, $5. Another thing, inflation. We had the worst inflation in the history of our country. Now we have virtually no inflation at all … so the affordability is much better with the Republicans.”
So many LIES. Does he really think that even his own followers haven’t seen their grocery and energy bills skyrocket? Does he think they’re stupid? Didn’t he see the blowback from Blacks and Hispanics in this last election? He’ll see even more blowback by 2026 across the board including his base (unless they are too far gone). How much more can he display his elitist mentality? The man thought the word “groceries” was a new and unique word in 2024. The word “affordability” will be haunting him until 2026.
FYI not a big Mandhami fan but Elise Stephanik? This is the Republican hope fpr the future? Give up now because she makes most normal people want to hurl. Horrible congresswoman, failed in her attemptt to become the UN rep. Sahe is whiny and "defiant" which is actually playing the victim while simultaneously attacking everyone in her path. the Nancy Mace of Nre York.... you worst nightmare. Run, not walk away from her.
Striking a blow for affordability, the newsstand price for an issue of The New Yorker is $9.99.
Witch hochul has raised the price of electricity of gas and evetything in new york
Also let loose a criminal horde
Raised the price of electricity? You understand that's because wind and sunlight are free, right?
Thats ridiculous
Of course it is. That's why progressives believe it.
They still believe in easter bunny and santa
On 1 Jan 2026 NY's ban on fossil fuel for new construction <7 stories starts. By November the effects will be felt throughout NY- except for NYC which will have it's own problems, and most of their new construction is >7 stories.
Question is- how badly will it affect NY's economy? In western NY I know there are multiple new developments that haven't been permitted because there's insufficient electrical infrastructure in place to support the new housing- with fossil fuel for heating and cooking. Permitting will be even harder come the New Year. Because every house will need
higher capacity transformers, and all those higher capacity transformers will need higher capacity transformers and lines feeding them.
I use about 1000 gallons of fuel oil a year- less then many of my neighbors. My house is pretty well insulated. That's heat and hot water. Energy equivalent according to AI- 12,900 KWH. My average electrical use is under 1000 KWH/month. So my average monthly use would more then double. (More in winter, less in summer...) Throw that on to every house in town- there's not enough electrical generating capacity in NY to handle it. Shutting down Indian Point didn't help. And not enough transmission capacity, including both power lines and transformers.
By 2028 New Yorkers will be fed up with Democrat policies. I doubt 2026 will be soon enough for the disgust to fully develop.
"Throw that on to every house in town- there's not enough electrical generating capacity in NY to handle it."
Well, yeah- but... free wind!
You think it’s expensive now wait until it’s affordable
It's troubling that there were Chinese spies in Hochul's office and that is not disqualifying. I also don't understand how this story just went away. Poof!
☑️ Chinese spies in Hochul's office.
☑️ Chinese spies involved with Swalwell's campaign.
Do we see a fucking pattern, here? Do we think Chinese intelligence stopped at fucking TWO spies? Or, do we think there are probably dozens of others that haven't been caught yet? Derp.
Unless somebody actually starts looking to confirm that there are "only two" Chinese spies in the Democrat party, I'm going to assume that Chinese intelligence is embedded at every level of the Democrat party.
Almost the entire biden cabinet and subcabinet was manchurian owned lesuo
Add feinstein and swalwell those are the ones we know of
Not to mention agents in the cia fbi and other agencies
There will never be free bus rides. City run grocery stores wont make it a year.
Trump
Honestly people who believed deserved a dunce cap stapled to their scalp so everyone would know
“Do we see a fucking pattern, here? Do we think Chinese intelligence stopped at fucking TWO spies? Or, do we think there are probably dozens of others that haven't been caught yet? Derp.”
https://www.cnn.com/2025/11/07/politics/michael-mcmahon-trump-pardon
“President Donald Trump has approved a pardon for Michael McMahon, the White House said Friday, a retired New York City police officer who was convicted in 2023 for his role in stalking a New Jersey family on behalf of the Chinese government.”
Grok: Thanksgiving basket serves 10 this year compared to 8 last year. "Why the price dropped: Walmart explicitly states the 2025 basket is "about 25% less than last year" due to lower turkey prices (their lowest since 2019), bulk promotions, and a redesigned kit with "generous portions" but fewer extras. However, fact-checks note that if you price the exact same 2024 items at 2025 rates, the cost is only down ~5-6% (mostly from potatoes/onions), not 25%."
Same items are still cheaper than last year, and how often does that happen?
Trump didn't lie.
@Victoria: Fact check: Elise Stefanik did not “fail” to become UN rep; Trump pulled the nomination because he needs every vote in the House.
Our host should take one day and just delete any statements she can prove false, but then there wouldn't be any Democrats here.
The NY State Legislature and Kathy Hochul enacted a state law due to take effect next year banning new natural gas hookups in NYS. Ask any NYS resident about their electric bill and you will hear about greatly increasing energy prices. This will be a major issue in the upcoming gubernatorial race.
"Ask any NYS resident about their electric bill and you will hear about greatly increasing energy prices."
That's because wind and sunshine are free, don't you know?
Stephanik ain't beating Hochul. Waste of some decent political talent, brains, and moxie. Katie Porter, likely the next governor of California is originally from Indiana, but being a leftist kook had no political future there and wisely moved to the messed coast. Other pols have done this also. Aspiring right-of-center pols please take note, eh? FWIW.
Does he really think that even his own followers haven’t seen their grocery and energy bills skyrocket?
Skyrocket? Bullshit.
I do all the grocery shopping. All of it. And you know when I saw prices skyrocket? During Biden's double-digit inflation.
BTW, what's the price of eggs these days, huh?
And another thing, you idiots haven't stopped crowing about Tuesday's results. You won where you were supposed to win.
If you really think Tuesday's election is some sort of harbinger for the election 12 months from now, you're dumber than I thought.
"Throw that on to every house in town- there's not enough electrical generating capacity in NY to handle it."
It's going to be a shitshow. They're either going to have to back off or construction will have to stop.
Those new transformers have a delivery date of many months to years in the future.
“About 70% of Americans say grocery prices have increased since last year, according to recent polls from sources like the Washington Post-ABC News poll and others cited in the news.”
I do all my own grocery shopping and the prices have gone up significantly, I don’t know where you shop, but it’s not in a real grocery store.
"Those new transformers have a delivery date of many months to years in the future."
If the left understood reality, Net Zero wouldn't be a thing.
"sources like the Washington Post-ABC News"
So- Democrat sources. Okay then.
Pataki was the last Republican Governor 1995-2006. And NY has gotten even more "diverse" and Leftwing since.
The people in NYC may be upset at "Affordability" but they'll never go for a Republican.
"Inga said...

Our resident dullard was quiet during the Biden years. But this is BS.
Zeldin lost NY state Governor in 2022 by about 400K votes, and lost NYC by 750K. Why would stefanik do any better? And Zeldin did better than every Republican candidate since Pataki.
The people in NYC may be upset at "Affordability" but they'll never go for a Republican.
See: California
Inga and the Democrat's message nowadays: "Vote for us so we can murder our opponents! We will bring the death camps for sure!"
See: their actual, literal member of the SS in Maine they are running. Their new AG in Virginia (which I note Inga has not ever critizied that I am aware of for his open desires to murder the children of Republicans) and the commie in NYC. Well, I suppose it would be a gulag, not a concentration camp for the very, very technical there.
Guess what: economic messages are important, but even more important is not voting for a party that is openly running on murdering their opposition. And Inga and the rest of the leftist trolls can no longer claim that their politicians will not try to set up Auschwitz or Treblinka II for Republicans, since their guys are running on doing that now.
"Vote for Democrats, we will make your health care cheaper! By liberal use of Zylon B!"
Not a winning message, Inga.....
If you look at the NY State map, its all red in 2022 except for NYC and the Hudson River valley. Like other states, the Democrats rack up massive majorities in a few urban counties, and the rest of counties split are more even.
If you live in Long Island or Upstate NY how is "rent control" going to help?
"Not a winning message, Inga....."
Well, yeah. But she thinks parroting it will delay *her* health care, at least for a little bit.
About 70% of Americans say grocery prices have increased since last year,"
Inflation in 2025 has been about 2% so, yes, prices may well have increased.
Here's inflation during the Biden administration:
2021 5%
2022 8%
2023 4%
2024 3%
Heard my first holiday music of the year in a retail store today.
I don't mind it this early. I think it chills most people out.

“However, as Trump appeared to throw cold water on the voter’s plea, a majority of Americans believe they are spending more on groceries and utilities compared to last year, according to a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll released Monday and conducted late last month.
The poll found 7 in 10 U.S. adults say their grocery bill has increased over the past 12 months, and 6 in 10 say their utility costs have risen. While 92% of Democrats and two-thirds of independents pin “a great deal” or “good amount” of blame on Trump for inflation and rising prices, only 20% of Republicans feel the same, the poll revealed. Overall, around 6 in 10 Americans have pointed fingers at the president.
According to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, released in September, the Consumer Price Index, which measures economy-wide inflation, increased by 2.9% from August of last year. Meanwhile, food prices experienced a more drastic uptick, standing at 3.2% higher during the same period.”
The only reason Hochul is Governor because she was Lt. Governor when Cuomo was forced to resign. She was Lt. Governor because she's a woman. She's not as god-awful as Kamala, but her rise to the top was for the same reason. She doesn't present herself with much sparkle or energy.. Stefanie is a far more impressive candidate. She'll probably lose, but she's far more impressive.
"Not a winning message, Inga....."
“Well, yeah. But she thinks parroting it will delay *her* health care, at least for a little bit.”
Well, that’s not my message, Vance doesn’t speak for me.
Inga, which party is responsible for increasing utility prices?
I’ve never seen an American elected official fight so hard to starve people.
President Appeals to Supreme Court After Losing Bid to Curtail Food Stamp Aid ~ Fox News
Even Fox today admitted that prices are up on so many things because of Trump’s tariffs, running an entire segment on it. It’s tough to fool people about how much things cost because they know darn well how much they are paying. But Trump seems convinced that if he lies enough they will believe him over their empty bank accounts.
Housing is a great deal more expensive in NYC, but I don't think there's much difference in the price of groceries or clothing. I can't ever recall a time when housing was affordable.
This lady has the perfect politician’s personality. Expect great things from her.
The Law of Supply and Demand: Increase the demand for housing in the US by allowing up to 20 million illegals to reside in the US, while the supply of housing remains the same, and what will be the result? Institute a rent freeze that increases the demand for housing and limits the supply of housing by discouraging investors and what will be the result? Decrease the supply of energy by reducing the supply of natural gas and what will be the result? Any economists out there?
Beyond the US House Repubs have no ability to move up to higher office so staying in New York is a waste of your time if you're a talented ambitious Republican, even if you happened to win somehow. Cf Rudolph Guliani, Mit Romney, Curtis Sliwa.
Mitt Romney is a Republican?
Once Mamdani has royally f*cked up NYC Stefanik will finish up f*cking up NY... reap what you sow.
Mamdamni(D) is a Radical Islamic punk ass - first and foremost.
Erratum in the title to the post: 'Stenfanik.'
“Sharia Law Starts Now”, “Islamic Caliphate Of New York” – “Liberal” Mamdani Supporters Celebrate His Victory
A medley of women celebrating Mamdani turning NYC into a "Muslim country," making their "MAGA Parents" sad
The price of turkey is up because of avian flu. The price of potatoes has decreased 5%. The price of butter is down over 30% from last year. Because of demand sweet potatoes have risen 2.7% this year. The price of cranberries hasn't changed. The price of boneless ham has dropped 2.7% over last year. You all like your casseroles and the price of green beans remains unchanged.
In California you can just double those prices and be pretty close. Aldi has opened stores in Orange County, but you have to search for them.
I don't now who Inga's 70%NY.
My nephew and his family used to live in the city. He and his wife both work at relatively good jobs. Two children. The definition of middle class Americans. They eventually had to leave for a small town in Pennsylvania. 2 hour commute each way. Costs rose much faster than income. Pretty simple equation. No work ethic issues, which is nonsense. No poor planning issues. 2 kids isn’t uncommon. Just a crushing economic inequality that isn’t unique to New York, by the way. It’s a global phenomenon fueled mostly by carefully crafted tax policies that allow the wealthy to shelter themselves and grow their own income. It’s fueled by a financial market structure that funnels savings from the many to the few-which in America is abundantly clear when you see the incomes of management vs the workers.
The new mayor is an expression of frustration similar to the frustration of many Trump voters. These voters are trying a different approach. Not a new theme either.
AA -- headline still has that extra N in her name.
