Why doesn't she even say "I don't think there are any"? She must know there are! I can only think of 2 other explanations: 1. She's just compulsively opaque and uncooperative, a real bullshitter, or 2. I haven't seen any "Katie Porter videos." As a no-longer-Californian and Republican, what she says and does has little effect on me, and she's made it abundantly clear (from what I've heard) that she doesn't give a tinker's damn what my handful of CA Republican relatives think.
My husband thinks Trump should just wash his hands of any state that refuses to cooperate in the upholding of federal law. Pull back, let them go to hell in their own fashion. There is still the problem of federal funding, which of course he can't change unilaterally... I pointed out, too, that Trump's continued efforts to uphold federal law in blatantly obstructive states keeps Democrats' 20% positions on all those 80-20 issues in the forefront of the news, which may have some utility.

I dont understand why California gets to have its own immigration laws. The SCOTUS and federal judges seem to think the states can't enforce the immigration laws - thats for the Feds. But the states can refuse to help the feds enforce the immigration laws and pass laws that actively help illegals stay in the USA. I take it as a sign of progress that we are not being inundated with articles and talking heads saying that the reaction to Katie Porter's videos is actually sexism because society mistreats women who dare show any backbone or strength of will. I also took the videos as a sign of one of the problems of socialization of girls as they are are growing up. I think most men as a result of growing up as boys and perhaps having altercations or seeing altercations between boys on the playground or locker room, understand that there is a certain way you can speak to a person, a certain tone of voice you can adopt, that dramatically increases the likelihood that someone will punch you in the face. As such men may be more likely to appreciate the risks of speaking a certain way to another person. Not risks at to there being a violent response but an understanding as to the level of of aggression, disrespect, and relationship damage that can be caused by speaking a certain way.

He's often rude to political opponents and reporters asking loaded questions, but the only time I can recall that he lost his temper was when the Iranians and Israelis were both undermining the cease fire he had brokered and he said "They don't know what the fuck they are doing!"
If a subordinate had showed up in the background of an interview I expect that he would say "Excuse me, we're on the air here," and then make a funny comment or joke to defuse the situation. It's why "the little people" universally like the man.

The Trump clip is a perfect example of how you express anger without looking like a mean or emotional jerk. Donald Trump is not afraid to be mean, or tough. Katie Porter is terrified to appear to be mean. Republicans prize toughness and an ability to fight. Democrats are aghast when there's a conflict. They want to deny there is any conflict, and they want to flee the room and start over if a conflict appears.
So yes, Trump and Porter are polar opposites. But this idea that Trump is nice and Porter is mean? Forget it. I think they are both capable of meanness. Trump doesn't have to hide it. Porter is about to implode with all the meanness she is holding in her kidneys.
