I'm surprised at the NYT headline "U.S. and Chinese Officials Reach Framework of a Trade Deal."

The front page teaser under the headline on the home page is "Negotiators announced they had preliminarily agreed on several issues ahead of an expected meeting between President Trump and Xi Jinping this week."

So they say they've done something. Have they? And it's only "preliminary" and "on several issues." Is the headline supported? It got me excited, but then I felt a little conned.

Anyway... I hope things go well.

An uncharacteristically optimistic synopsis from NYT.

I hope Xi demands Trump to return the East Wing to its previous configuration.

‘Positive framework’ agreed for Trump-Xi summit, says Scott Bessent ~ FT

'Talks between US and Chinese officials covered export controls, fentanyl and agricultural products'

The US side of the story:
“I would describe [the negotiations] as constructive, far-reaching, in-depth and giving us the ability to move forward and set the stage for the leaders’ meeting in a very positive framework,” Bessent said.

Now the Chinese:
"China’s state news agency Xinhua said that the sides had reached a “basic consensus” on a framework to “address their respective concerns”.

It's déjà vu all over again.

AP, June 11, 2025: "Senior U.S. and Chinese negotiators have agreed on a framework to get their trade negotiations back on track after a series of disputes that threatened to derail them, both sides have said."

No tariffs on "frameworks," apparently.

The stage is set for another TACO meeting? Sounds like another we'll see how we get on after another two month extension of the imposition of tariffs.

It's like speed dating for trade emissaries.

You're just missing the usual 'Sources close to the administration that wish to remain anonymous, say....' This is giving a glimpse of a news story without the added stealth editorial slants designed to torpedo the results in advance.

Where are the unnamed sources?

They should just ask the stupid sock muppet what his fever dreams are coming up with.

In other words, the leaking has been stopped.

WSJ recently published article noting Trump has accomplished more as president within ten-month time-span than any other prior president. If you take the hate-politics out of the equation, and look at Trump from a non globalist viewpoint, he's doing quite a bit for American people. Hey, you can sell $20,000 worth of secondhand merch on Ebay or Amazon, and no longer get hit w/1099-K form! Gig sidebar selling of your household goods, to pay your ever increasing utility and tax bills in Blue States, is now financially rewarding again.

Every Friday it’s an insane tariff announcement followed by a resolution on Monday. They are literally telling you to buy on Friday.

Every Republican interviewed on the Sunday morning shows should have been asked whether Reagan favored tariffs in the same way Trump does.

China is playing Trump, and America, like a fiddle. Very much like watching an adult convince a toddler it doesn't, in fact, want to hold its breath until it gets what it wants.

In about a months time we'll be back in the same place. This is just brain-damaged groundhog day.

Right they are facing a 100% tariff (clever play)

“This is China versus the world.” ~ Scott Bessent

Unfortunately the rest of the world is not there.

American foreign policy is failing in eastern Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East.

Scott Bessent of all people should know this is a short sale.

I’ll believe the top trade negotiator in China’s delegation before I believe anything from coming from Trump's team.

The fact that the US team is providing constant briefing vs China staying relatively quiet -- tells you all you need to know.

Yeah, and the Gaza War is over and done, said Demented Don as he descended into the rabbit hole.
