Do note that the risk of oligarchy has worsened. For the first 24 years it was only "this great country" that was at risk of the oligarchy. Suddenly in 2018 it was the world at risk of oligarchy. Perhaps the reemergence of the risk of climate change will save us in the next news cycle.

As of 2024, approximately 31.5% of Australia's population, or about 8.6 million people, were born overseas, indicating a significant portion of recent immigrants. This percentage reflects the highest share of foreign-born residents in Australia since 1892. - DDG AI Overview

I think the moment for Bernie Sanders was in the 2016 primaries, when they cleared the field for Hillary, and he refused to drop out for her, so they simply left Warren in for one more primary in order to split Sander's vote, and ensure Hillary the nomination. Exactly.

There are people who want him to be successful in his efforts. They are the oligarchs who fund him.

Bernie rails against billionaires, but all of his attacks are against millionaires.

Bernie is destroying the competition of the billionaires who gave him millions of dollars, a private jet, and all those houses.

Bernie is a tool. His supporters are even dumber than he is.

Bernie Sanders cannot be rich unless he takes money from other people. Bernie Sanders does not have the intelligence, drive, and strength of character to build or make anything other people want. Thus he plays the role of socialist leader.

He is absolutely wrong about what is happening. He knows he is wrong and he is being dishonest.

He is pretending that at some point in history that wealth was evenly distributed or that it is even possible for wealth to be evenly distributed.

It is not possible. The Pareto Distribution is absolutely undefeated and there is no system ever created that will break the Pareto Distribution. The only thing that remains from attempts to try are mass graves.

He is pretending that there is some way that he is going to redistribute oligarch money to the people.

All he is actually doing is taking money from one group of oligarchs and giving it to a smaller group of oligarchs. Socialists like him have only ever replaced oligarchs who earned their wealth through some sort of work with oligarchs who use the government to take wealth for themselves.

It is pathetic that people even give this the time of day. Bernie is even telling you that he is too important to not fly a private jet.

Conclusion: Sanders has always been a fraud

PS: The other two books I mentioned upthread are also available using the Althouse Amazon portal.

Achilles said...

Big Mike said...

@Achilles, so there’s someone else commenting here who knows about Pareto distributions. Cool

50% = square root of N
50% = N - (square root of N)

For non math nerds out there that means if you give 10,000 people $10,000 each within a certain time frame 100 of those people will end up with $50,000,000 and the other 9900 will have $50,000,000.

10 of those 100 will have $25,000,000 and the other 90 rich people will have $25,000,000.

Of course the "average person" would still have $10,000 while the "mean person" is at ~$5050.50.(a little higher)

This is a law of nature. I applies to the mass of celestial objects like black holes and stars. It applies to basket ball players scoring points. It applies to city populations.

There really should be a high school class about it.

Big Mike said...

Oops, now I have to put on my mathematician’s hat. Pareto is a family of distributions based on a parameter typically written as the Greek letter theta. Depending on the value of theta one can get Zipf’s Law, which I won’t try to describe as it is pretty well explained in Wikipedia. Another value for theta yields the 80-20 rule. I did quite well in stochastic modeling for computer performance modeling with the version of Pareto that produces the 80-20 rule.

Zipf’s Law is often used to model economics because, empirically, it is often the case that the second-wealthiest person in a set of people has approximately half the wealth of the first, the third-wealthiest has approximately i/3 the wealth of the wealthiest, etc. it’s an empirical rule so it doesn’t always match reality 100%, but I understand that on the whole it does a decent job.
