"After Racist Texts, New York G.O.P. Is Set to Disband Young Republicans."

The NYT reports.
The planned vote comes days after Politico disclosed how leaders of Young Republican groups across the country exchanged messages that included racist and antisemitic comments, with some participants’ discourse including comments about raping their political enemies and placing them in gas chambers.... One state Republican official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the effort to disband the group, which was first reported by Newsday, would allow for a fresh start. By eliminating the group’s charter, the official said, Republican officials can reconstitute it and then bring in new leadership.

Good!

It would be interesting to see the internal message boards of the parallel Democrat organizations. Given the vile messages routinely posted publicly by Democrat-adjacent groups and individuals and even Democrat candidates that are rarely (and then only reluctantly) condemned by Democrat officials and candidates, it is hard to believe that those forums do not contain material equally or more offensive than that posted by these low-level Republican operatives. Without a comparison of equivalent forums, this looks like more civility bullshit to me. Where are the investigative reporters? The Republicans are right to clean house, but restoration of civility in American politics requires the same from the progressives.

The younger people I know are far more sensitive to offensive speech. Things that are not racist at all are called racist. They assume that older people are and always were racist. These are individuals between the ages of 18 and 40, who are Republicans from around the country, who aspire to have positions within the Republican Party or rise up through the Republican ranks. Politico got hold of a whole bunch of their text messages, in which they refer to black people as monkeys. They talk about putting their political opponents in the gas chambers.

They have a leader who is president, he goes to Beth Page, the Ryder Cup location, acts crazy. Now he's created license for everybody that shows up there to, I mean, they're throwing beer at their opponents wives. I mean, it's just sort of a bizarre thing to happen at a golf game. But this is the type of behavior that Trump gets away with. And so now he's empowered and emboldened these younger people to say things like this.

But notably, JD Vance, has said that critics of these texts should just grow up and that this is pearl-clutching.

This is where Vance is actually right. People do talk like this. There are racists in our society. There are people who are anti-Semitic, unfortunately, in this society and anti-gay and so on and so forth. But where the vice president is wrong on the pearl clutching, these are people that are going to be running your party in the next 10 or so years.

They're aspiring to grow and up through the Republican ranks. And they feel that this will do them, or at least they don't feel it will hurt them, this kind of language in this Republican party, I guess.

Absolutely right. They should have demanded context and rolled this back on the Donks. The YR's were clearly riffing on the insanity of the Donk rhetoric. The Democrats aren't the only party that desperately need generational change.

"The young people I know don't give a crap. They see the double standards on speech that have existed during their lifetimes and reject them.'

Also true in my experience. The Boomer game of "gotcha" is seen as obsolete and irrelevant in their eyes. A basic misunderstanding of how social media has cheapened and blunted the impact of any particular statement.

Groypers! Or gophers if you’re Original Mike…

“In the wake of Young Republicans texting scandal, ‘white supremacist’ Nick Fuentes claims: ‘There’s groypers in every department’

Fuentes’s comments came after it was revealed that members of the Young Republicans were praising Hitler and threatening to torture opponents

Far-right activist Nick Fuentes has claimed that his supporters, known as “groypers,” are now “in every department” of the US government.

Fuentes, described as a “white nationalist” in court documents, commented just days after it was revealed that members of Young Republicans groups across the country had been sharing explicitly racist messages on Telegram.

Speaking on Tuesday’s episode of his podcast, America First, Fuentes claimed that he even has supporters at America’s most prestigious universities

“But groypers are all over the government, and everyone knows that,” he bragged. “There's groypers at Harvard; there's groypers in all the Ivy League schools. I talked to all of them.

“There's groypers in government, there's groypers in every department, every agency, OK?”

However, despite his alleged popularity across the country, he urged his fans to never put their support for him in writing.

“But if you are in the Young Republicans, and I'm speaking to you, if you're in College Republicans, if you are in the administration, if you're in a high position, you can't be putting this in writing. You can't,” he said.“

“Now I know it's funny, and I joke around like that on my show, and I'm very cavalier about it, and maybe I'm setting a bad example.”

The far-right influencer became infamous after he first launched his podcast in 2017 and continued to grow his fanbase when he clashed with the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.”

Nor will you, Michael Fitzgerald, because the double standard is so strong in her that I cannot help but wonder what we would have found if today’s technology was around back when she was a fine arts student at Michigan back in the 1970s. Pardon me, but I have my suspicions.

Hat tip to Althouse commentator Birches for finding the context of the “I love Hitler [smiley emoji”] text. The author was trying to round up votes with the leader of another Young Republican club, and he was advised that that club’s votes would go to “the most conservative” candidate. The “I love Hitler” text was in response, and was obviously meant facetiously. But while Althouse can laugh at the edgy extremist “humor” of Kathy Griffin, it is forbidden in her world for young Republicans to display edgy humor.

So some nobody is running for some office in a college chapter of the Young Republicans, and is informed by a pal that the most conservative candidate will likely win. He replies "Well then, I love Hitler!" It's an obvious sardonic joke by a college puke, and it is practically certain that he does not, in fact, love Hitler. Result: Everyone in the chat is dismissed from the YR, following heavy criticism from countless Republicans, and the organization itself is disbanded in some locales. None of them will ever work in politics, and many will have trouble finding jobs. Some might even be expelled from college. The Republican candidate for governor of Virginia flatly disavows and denounces them without any qualification or hesitation.

On the other hand: A Democrat lawyer in his 40's running for Attorney General of a major state expresses a wish to assassinate one of his political opponents, and when offered a chance to walk it back, doubles down and further wishes that the man's toddler children might die in their mother's arms, so that his party might make political gains by their deaths. The Democratic party establishment keeps him as their candidate, and the many high profile Democrats who endorsed him uniformly stand by him and support him. When offered a chance to criticize him, the Democrat candidate for governor of Virginia does no such thing, but stands mute like a deer in the headlights.

We are not the same people. Democrats show by their words and actions that they are the party of violence and hate and lust for power at any cost. They are irredeemably, ontologically evil and cannot ever be trusted with power. They are America's most wicked and dangerous enemies.

It will be enlightening to keep a tally of how many minutes and column inches of coverage the national news media devotes to these two stories over the coming weeks. I'll bet my next mortgage payment that the ratio will be on the order of 50:1, if the Democrat is even mentioned at all.

First, there seems to be some confusion here about the ages of the offenders. They weren’t college kids. They apparently ranged in age from 24-40. Old enough to vote, drink, smoke, drive, hunt, get married, do all the things that adults do. They don’t benefit from the “kids will be kids” defense.

Two, it seems that in certain far right circles, in order to impress the others with your loyalty to group, you have to make ever more taboo and edgy comments. You could say that they engage in “vice signaling” instead of the “virtue signaling” that happens in leftist groups. In each case the purpose is the same: to show loyalty to the group, to gain status in the group, and to undermine competitors in the group.
