Discussed here, at Reddit. A few of the comments:
• "Wow. This might be the first time in the entire run of the show that they didn’t get an episode done on time. And the show has been running for about 30 years. They have traditionally made each episode in 6 days. Wonder what it’s like behind the scenes."
• "Yeah, the Kirk thing probably [led] to a lot of changes and debate. They haven't been pulling any punches but they also aren't monsters."

I guess it would be worth looking into how they portrayed Kirk in that episode.

They will typically have some number of episodes queued up and ready to go.
If they don't they are doing it wrong.
Something else is going on here.
The Reddit-like billionaire writers (D) /paid leftists/ had to pivot.
fishy
Go after Islam, boys. Show some balls.
Would be interesting to see their contract and what editorial control Paramount has in addition to their obligations to the FCC. The two creators are in their 50s, have been compensated quite fairly, they’re very media savvy and I’m sure would be able to put out episodes on YouTube if Paramount ever took fright.
The problem you have is people taking things far too emotionally and personally on many things, including policy.
Take South Park for example. In their recent episodes they have been parodying Charlie Kirk, and Kirk was on record with being fine with it, laughing at his own parody and using it as his profile picture even.
I think it's about more than the one episode that was needed for this week and about the narrative arc of the season. They need something new (or changed) and they have to use the next episode to restart or redirect the season.
Perhaps their rabid pro-Democratic Party hate-spew with tinges of "Fascist-Hitler" talk needed to be curbed?
Perhaps their Charlie Kirk and Trump mocking - felt a bit insane and insensitive... now that the entire world sees the vile left in real light.
The recent deal they made, though sounded great for them in the headlines, actually showed that they were running into a money crunch because of a massive loan they took out a few years ago. Maybe they are being extra cautious now because of money, or maybe they are having editorial conflicts amongst themselves.
For the record, Charlie Kirk enjoyed the episode and thought it was funny.
remember they groveled to Al Queda, after the Times Square bombing, then they groveled to Al Gore, about the Climate Hoax, who were they willing to defame next,

They have said in interviews that's not how they work. Apparently immediacy and time pressures are part of their creative process.
Pretty sure this happened at least once before. Pre-digital, they were infamous for racing through the city to deliver the videotape shortly before airtime.
The Kirk episode has been pulled from reruns, but I don't think the atrocity had anything to do with this misstep.
BTW - I think Casa Bontia should be boycotted. Just for shits and giggles.
the annexation of Alberta, would have been lit,

Did he really?
Or was he reacting to a snot nosed kid in the way that makes the snot nosed kid look bad?
What particular jokes were told about Kirk? I guess I have to watch the clips after work.

Yes he did he talked about the episode on his podcast for over 10 minutes. I loved it.

Kak: Would be interesting to see their contract and what editorial control Paramount has in addition to their obligations to the FCC.
Comedy Central has no obligations to the FCC, since it is a cable channel.
There's a documentary that goes into what it takes to make one of their shows and how they are able to capitalize on extremely current/topical subjects. It's all pretty amazing, but what I think is really the main takeaway is that these two guys started this entire thing as a joke and have remained strong friends throughout their decades of pressure-cooker work.
You know you're Somebody when South Park makes you the butt of jokes.
IMO their Trump-Satan stuff is just lazy, not remotely as clever and pointed as their best work. But all the great animated series eventually run down.
@Peachey Perhaps their rabid pro-Democratic Party hate-spew with tinges of "Fascist-Hitler" talk needed to be curbed? That says a lot more about you than it does about them.
Some leftists I know who mocked Kirk's death say they're really looking forward to this episode. I think they will be surprised.

Yes he did.
Unlike Charlie, they aren’t willing to die. If you can’t make fun of Muslims then you aren’t worth watching.

I watched and listened to the clips and Kirk’s reactions.
I think it was funny until Kirk got shot.
But what South Park did was to make fun of people who engage in debate. Master Debater is a great joke in a free high trust society.
In a better world the South Park episode is funny. We are not going to have that better world around until Antifa broadly speaking is gone.
What the South Park debacle shows is that there is a minimum level of agreement and social cohesion that is necessary for a society to function and there must be a baseline setting for moral and ethical values.
In order to have a thriving free high trust society the only countries that have succeeded are countries that have a Protestant Christian moral foundation or are occupied by a Protestant Christian country.
Protestant Christianity is the only religion that produces citizens who are capable of maintaining a free high trust society. That moral foundation is clearly necessary.
I have no problem with South Park making fun of Kirk's views, everyone is fair game for the show. But they better damn well make fun of Antifa. i suggest they have a full-facial Mohammed opening the gate to Heaven for Kirk, with Ghandi and MLK and JFK welcoming Kirk into the afterlife with the saying, ""The odd thing about assassins, Charlie, is that they think they've killed you"
And heck, no I want to watch this episode of South Park, a feeling I have not had for a very long time..
they aren't that clever, they did ridicule hippies in that Dawn of the Dead riff, and some prog pretentions, that was so longer ago,
I suspect they were going to do some more episodes with the "Cartman as Kirk" schtick and opted to not do them. They may be irreverent to all, but airing something like that shortly after Kirk was murdered would be in bad taste even for South Park.
Charlie Kirk's podcast is number one on the charts, businesses and media outlets are firing employees who criticize Kirk, and flags are flying at half-mast for Kirk despite his status as a private citizen. Here's why America treats conservatives as second-class citizens.….
Charlie Kirk is a thing? Better than nothing, I guess.
"Unlike Charlie, they aren’t willing to die. If you can’t make fun of Muslims then you aren’t worth watching."
He wasn't "willing to die." He was brutally murdered.
And one of the most famous South Park episode involved exposing the corporate hypocrisy in that they were free to mock Jesus but not Muhammad. Trying to paint Matt and Trey as leftwing idealogues is so stupid. Grow up.
“and flags are flying at half-mast for Kirk despite his status as a private citizen.“
This is done by a presidential proclamation for private citizens and has been done in the past, like for Elenor Roosevelt and MLK, Rosa Parks, and Cesar Chavez. Are they greater than Kirk, perhaps, based on politics.
I think South Park is idiotic and I am at a loss as to why anyone would want to watch it.
Now the billionaire creators are leftwing (they were not always)
But boo hoos all around - for the leftist billionaires and their crappy over-rated show.
and flags are flying at half-mast for Kirk despite his status as a private citizen.
Now do Whitney Houston.
When was the last time that those who criticize South Park for not taking on Muhammad picketed their local mosque?
Go ahead, make a sign that says something like "No angel ever talked to Muhammad" or "Islam is a third-rate parody of religion"
And report back if you survive.
The city council speaker in Dearborn MI is still alive but "Not Welcome" per the mayor.
"and flags are flying at half-mast for Kirk despite his status as a private citizen."
Jimmy Carter was a private citizen when he died, you know.
