If that sounds like the role of reading in your life, here's Weinberger's "An Elemental Thing" (commission earned). The description of the book at Amazon says: "he leads us through histories, fables, and meditations about the ten thousand things in the universe: the wind and the rhinoceros, Catholic saints and people named Chang, the Mandaeans on the Iran-Iraq border and the Kaluli in the mountains of New Guinea."
From the interview: "it’s a book that I hope people will open at random, rather than read sequentially."

You'll find a copy of Weinberger's "An Elemental Thing" in the waiting room of just about every upscale opium den.
So he just wrote an Uncle John's Bathroom Reader?
The Neverending Story
...somebody who reads a few pages and then falls asleep and has a fantastic dream.
That's the New York Times' ideal reader too.
An updated Ripley’s believe it or not.

Johnson, Navin R. Sounds like your typical bastard…
Never heard of this guy. I want to discover more about his work.
I fell asleep just reading the title. Hope Weinberger was after that.
I just know him as a very engaged left-wing writer, but it seems like that's true of most writers.
If I read, I would read all night. I flip over my ipad on a long cord and listen at very low volume to shows I've seen before to avoid my husband snoring, though he is working to fix it. British accents are the best. Midsomer Mysteries would be brilliant but for the blood-curdling screams and completely unacceptable prejudice towards cattledogs. I'm boycotting Morse, Lewis, and Endeavor because of how they treated Laurence Fox. Law and Order sound affects somehow don't bother me. It's all about the opening sequence. I often have odd waking dreams of myself in the show. I'm a horribly light sleeper, five hours at best, since childhood. I use the mask, the head chiller (brilliant, get one!), breathing exercises, complete blackout. Any show suggestions accepted. I get too engrossed in books on tape. I have to be bored.
