"I sincerely apologise for causing trouble despite being a person of no importance."

Said Kim Keon-hee, quoted in "The fall of a first lady: limos and luxury to a cell with no bed/Kim Keon-hee — the dog-loving wife of Yoon Suk-yeol, the impeached ex-president of South Korea — is in prison on suspicion of corruption and election meddling" (London Times).
Critics have compared Kim to Lady Macbeth, Marie Antoinette and, for her extensive cosmetic surgery, Michael Jackson. She lent an aura of glamour to Yoon, 64, a solemn former prosecutor.... There are 16 criminal allegations against her including suspicions that an expressway road project was changed to end in an area where her family owns land in Yangpyeong, east of Seoul.... Her one-person cell has a small table that can be used as a desk and for eating meals and a floor mattress to sleep on, said one source.... She can be held for up to 20 days while an indictment is prepared, but is unlikely to be granted bail according to legal analysts....

South Korea is showing us the way.

We have hundreds of politicians that were just as corrupt and deserve the same treatment.

In what sense is she dog-loving?

This is just plain ingratitude. Yoon did his job. He declared martial law,, which freed up a half a million artillery shells, and other weaponry to be. sent to Ukraine over the objection of the legitimate government of South Korea, and the only collateral damage was that the Russians brought the NorKs in out of the cold, and greatly improved their economic circumstances.

Yoon only did with the Biden Administration wanted him to do, what Blinken wanted him to do. Maybe other countries need to think twice before taking orders from the US that are against their national interests...

"In what sense is she dog-loving?" Probably the BBQ sense.

If we all just imagine it, this could be Hillary's future too.

I hadn't followed this story much at all, but it seemed to me as it was unfolding, that both sides of the lawfare battling were equally bad, equally corrupt, and the stronger side won. The voters, as usual, lost.

An accurate description of my quarters in my third year of law school.

The floor mattress may be standard Korean culture, no? A variant of the futon?

“Dog loving” means Kimer won’t get the South Park treatment. (See one of the Dakotas former governors, and Trump cabinet member) name scapes me.

"They were careless people, Biden and Blinken—they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made…"

As a side note, looking up the above quote from the Great Gatsby, I ran into this little conversation between Nick and Jordan Baker:

“You’re a rotten driver,” I protested. “Either you ought to be more careful, or you oughtn’t to drive at all.”
“I am careful.”
“No, you’re not.”
“Well, other people are,” she said lightly.
“What’s that got to do with it?”
“They’ll keep out of my way,” she insisted. “It takes two to make an accident.”
“Suppose you met somebody just as careless as yourself.”
“I hope I never will,” she answered. “I hate careless people. That’s why I like you.”

I believe in conspiracy theories, unicorns 🦄 are just a bridge too far.

An authentic dog lover would welcome a floor mattress.

@ Lem

You're thinking of Doug Burgum, former governor of The Barren Rectangle and current Sec of the Interior.
What is the South Park treatment?

I don't follow Korean politics as at all, but their scandals sound so much more fun than ours. From the article, it sounds like the president tried to declare martial law to keep the government from investigating his wife.

That's kind of romantic.

Koreans don't seem to do anything by half. The wife has 16 indictments for pretty obvious shady actions, the husband/president declares martial law, and a few months later, both are in jail. The plot moves along briskly.

Perhaps that's why Korean TV shows and movies are popular.

I'm pretty sure the dog-killer was Kristi Noem, but there may be some irony in the discussion that escaped me.

So will Kim Keon-hee have the last laugh? Hee, hee, hee.

All I can say is, they've got nothing on the Suhartos.

All I know about SK prisons is from what I've seen in K-dramas, but the description of her prison cell sounds pretty typical. Maybe even posh, since she doesn't have to share the space.

At least the Trumps, by not having dogs, will forego a dedicated swimming pool at the White House.

The South Koreans indict their former presidents as a matter of course. Presumably there's some corruption here and there, but the prosecutions are obviously just standard political maneuvering by each party at this point.

Lots of fathers were there. Mine got shot down by a NK or Cihinese. His brother was there too.
Meanwhile my mother was answering questions from her neighbors in San Diego about Where is Fred? Korea? Where is that?
