"L.A. is ours, this is our city. This is what my morning walk turned into. They’re terrorizing our neighborhood."

Said Mikema Nahmir, who "said he was out for his morning walk at 11 a.m. when he saw two women running down the street yelling that 'la migra' was at MacArthur Park" and who "joined the group of protesters who chased and yelled after the military-style trucks."

Nahmir is quoted in "Heavily armed immigration agents descend on L.A.’s MacArthur Park" (L.A. Times)("Immigration agents in military green surrounded MacArthur Park as the convoy readied for a show of force akin to a Hollywood movie. They came with horses and armored vehicles, carrying rifles and in tactical gear in the middle of what is the heart of immigrant Los Angeles").

The phrase "carrying rifles and in tactical gear..." should be relocated next to the word "They" so that grammar mavens do not get distracted into efforts to craft a Grouchoesque how-he-got-in-my-pajamas joke out of the image of horses (and armored vehicles) carrying rifles and tactical gear. This is not an occasion for cheap linguistic jokes. There was a military show of power in MacArthur Park... like a striped pair of pants.

I still recall the student newspaper at Texas A&M back in the 1980s and the student reports on the use of illegal immigrant construction labor by contractors for the new alumni building going up on campus. A raid on the site nabbed a handful of the undocumented but hard working laborers. The student reporter sagely asked an Immigration spokesman how they could determine who on the site deserved the attention of the Federales. The spokesman replied, "Well, when we pull up with out lights flashing, we take note of the ones who run away."

Last time I looked "LA" was part of our country. Not a separate one. As such, its subject to Federal law and doesn't get to have its own army, navy, or immigration policy.

IF they were hanging out in Macarthur Park they were dealing/using fentanyl and/or engaged in prostitution. There is no legit reason, no traditional family park action, going on next to the LA Zoo anymore. It's contraband and mayhem all the time.

It took me until halfway through 2021 to realize the Democrats stealing the 2020 election with mail in votes was a massive mistake.

They could have easily made it through Trump’s second term with Pence undermining everything and the rats in congress betraying him.

There is no going back now. California is going to lose a double digit percentage of its population specifically in the blue cities. The political power California and the democrats wielded because these illegals were counted in the census will be removed. Every blue city around the country is going to lose census count and be reduced in political power .

This won’t just affect national races. There are many purple state congresses that will flip from democrat to republican because those cities will lose apportionment.

Mac Arthur Park has long been a well known area of lawlessness and crime. It was the go-to place for illegal immigrants to buy fake IDs. So it's not a great mystery that ICE would want to shut that down.

Even NPR had to admit it back in 2006. :

https://www.npr.org/2006/05/05/5387226/a-walk-in-the-park-for-a-fake-id

"BURBANK: It's a gorgeous Monday afternoon and NPR engineer, Carlos Encincio(ph) and I are driving around McArthur Park, just west of downtown L.A. If it were statistically possible for a neighborhood to be more than 100 percent immigrant, this area would be. By no coincidence, it's also a hot-bed for the illegal document trade. Fake driver's licenses, social security cards, resident alien cards, student IDs from any college you want, it's all available here."

Since 2017, California and 10 other states have declared themselves "Sanctuary States" adopting laws with the express purpose of undermining enforcement of US borders by offering a safe haven for all crossing illegally. The last time 11 states openly declared themselves no longer bound by the US Constitution, they had to endure military occupation for more than 10 years after formal end to the Civil War. How else are we to send the message to the world that open defiance of US immigration law will not be rewarded?

The conundrum here is the mechanism by which to prevent Los Angeles and California from flouting the Supremacy Clause. Should they be baited into a Ft Sumter moment? Should they be ignored? Are civil or criminal sanctions available? Can federal funding be yanked?

1st) They treated illegal immigrants like VIP guests and gave them our money while our own needy were ignored, basically rubbing illegal immigration in everyone's face until most of the country was pissed.
2nd) They were warned that giving up criminal aliens in custody would be far less dangerous than hiding and escaping them into the community. They did just the opposite. Dems always do the stupid un-American thing, every. time.

In the summer of '67 I was a summer law clerk for a big LA firm. I rented a studio apartment a block and a half up the street from MacArthur Park. Even in those days it was a tough neighborhood. But in the last 20 years MacArthur Park and the streets around it have just become Third World slums--or worse.

MAGA, of which I am the ultra variety does not seem to agree with me that some illegals should be given a route to legal status. Those who have lived here many years without committing crimes or living on the public dole should be allowed to stay by going through the naturalization process here, which should be streamlined for all. Over the years they were generally encourage by our country to come, and so they did and invested in a life here, then found it impossible to become legal, many having lived here longer than they ever did in their native country. Problem is people are really pissed off now and not willing to be reasonable.

Cause the NYT's always dislikes shows of Federal power and is concerned about "Local outrage".

MacArthur Park, in Los Angeles, has a high crime rate, particularly in the surrounding area. The park is known for being in a poverty-stricken area and is reportedly controlled by the MS-13 gang, according to one source. This gang allegedly demands a "tax" from locals, including those engaged in illicit activities within the park, in exchange for protection. There have also been reports of violence against transgender individuals, including recent attacks in April 2025.

So, its a "Mostly peaceful" area that been unfairly targeted by those meanies in the Trump Administration.

Mason G said...

That's because they're criminals stealing jobs from Americans, and therefore should be deported.

If they have been "working and paying taxes", then they are again criminals, because they had to engage in identity theft in order to do that.

An illegal who joined the US Military and qualified for a combat infantryman badge MIGHT be worth keep.

All the rest need to be booted. They go to the back of the line, behind ALL the people who've tried to come to America illegally.

And they can take any of their "anchor babies" with them.
