Bill Maher lapses into near-babbling in the presence of David Mamet, who remained calm and quietly eloquent. The quoted part begins around 5 minutes in.
It gets quite awkward, and Mamet finally — close to the 16-minute mark — frames a question: "How would you like this part of the conversation to end so that we can move on to something else? What would end it to your satisfaction?"
It's such a writerly — multi-level — phrasing. An ordinary person would continue the decline, carping in the usual lefty-against-righty fashion. Someone with a little more distance and self-possession might say, Can't we talk about something else? But Mamet creates the scene in which he's the character who's doing something cagey with the Maher character. He's insulting him in a devious way with this sarcastic notion that he might be there to please him: What would Maher like, what would give him satisfaction? And the key word is end: "How would you like this part of the conversation to end... What would end it...?" Is he threatening to walk out? The dramatic tension is sublime. Maher, you idiot! You have the great dramatist beside you. He's giving you so many points of entry into a beautiful dialogue. Take one!
So frustrating! Worth listening to though, for Mamet. Here's his new book: "The Disenlightenment: Politics, Horror, and Entertainment" (commission earned).

Bill is used to interviewing shallow guests
It is hilarious how personal the Left now takes the accusations about the 2020 election's validity. Four years ago, the Left was smugly gloating about the outcome and gloating about the persecutions of the people who protested it and fought the issue in court. However, it set up Trump's triumphant return to office and the glee they felt over stealing the 2020 election has turned to ashes in their mouths.
The Democrats boarded up the windows and shut down counting at 6 locations simultaneously in blue cities inside of swing states.
Trump was in the lead in every state at midnight on election day.
3 hours later Joe Biden was in the lead in every state.
Joe Biden got 10 million more votes than Kamala or Hilary. His vote total was an obvious outlier.
All I have to do is state things that are documented and on video.
"More right wing," exclaims Maher.
Yep, some people begin to see who's been right ("right" as in correct) on all the issues. The left intends to subject us to more and more government meaning more and more control over ourselves and our wallets.
Maher doesn't want to even suggest the master dramatist is a "conspiracy theorist", because he fears little conversation would be possible after that.
"election was stolen by Biden."
by What Stretch, of the imagination, WASN'T the election stolen?
i mean, Other than: The Democrats did it, so it's GOOD?
there were LAWS
Laws that said mail in ballots HAD TO be signed.
Laws that said mail in ballots HAD TO be dated.
Laws that said mail in ballots HAD TO be turned in by the individual or family member
Laws that said mail in ballots HAD TO be for an ACTUAL citizen
Laws that said mail in ballots HAD TO be counted IN FRONT of witnesses
Laws that said mail in ballots HAD TO be counted ONLY ONCE
serious question: is breaking a LAW to get something, the same as "stealing" it?
"lapses into near-babbling" It is remarkable how inarticulate some professional talkers actually are. But in this case the babbling is also a tell: I think Maher feels threatened, both by the obvious talent of the guest, and by having felt similar impulses that he must suppress.
Poor Maher, confronting not only Mamet's brain but also that epic hairline.
Ugh Bill Maher what a liar. The fairness and validity of the2020 election was not "tested" , it was not looked into by Republicans. It was not "ajudicated in court". Almost every federal court refused to address the issue and ruled against Trump for all kinds of reasons, mostly for standing or for some bogus process reason. In any case, the idea that any Trump hating Federal Judge, R or D, would have looked at the data and issued a fair ruling on the evidence is absurd.
We now know that Barr told all his US Attorney's NOT to look into election fraud.
Leftist like Mahr are always using the appeal to authority. When the authority is leftwing. No one calls them on it.
The Arizona Senate had some a firm look into the 2020 election in Mariposa county. They found thousands of invalid votes had been cast. Dead people, Illegal aliens, people from other states, people with no address, etc.
And the Democrat secretary of state the Democrat election board refused to cooperate. They stonewalled, destroyed evidence, "Lost" evidence, and outright lied.
How would you like this part of the conversation to end so that we can move on to something else? What would end it to your satisfaction?
What an elegant offer from the guest to get the host off that petard onto which he hoisted himself!
No one has ever explained why Fox News settled with Dominion voting sytems for the insane amout of $787 million, when Dominion's annual revenue was only $25 million a year. And fired Tucker Carlson. Or why a News channel wasn't protected by the 1st Admendment.
If people remember, you'd get cancelled and banned off social media platforms if you pushed too hard about the 2020 election being stolen.
Maher -always defaults to his pot-smoking leftist stupidity side. Too bad, because he can be funny and even sometime, fair.
But like, you know, like the leftist side of things, is like, you know - like, it must always win, you know, like, because, like, how dare you even, like, think impure thoughts about the Crook Biden regime.
Before proceeding I’m waiting to receive an answer to the question ‘What is the remedy to a stolen election?’ The judiciary didn’t want to intervene and apparently then words in the Constitution about alternate electors is really now just filler. …It will take theft by the wrong people to discover the answer…
If people remember, you'd get cancelled and banned off social media platforms if you pushed too hard about the 2020 election being stolen.
Heck, commentators were banned here…
are you implying that that, Trump, that election was stolen by Biden
Does anyone think it was stolen by Biden? More likely it was stolen for Biden. I'd have fewer questions about who was running things if I believed that Biden could have orchestrated the millions of extra votes that only showed up for that election.
I'm just going to point to these videos concerning why having any sort of machine involved in voting is a horrible idea.

Another annoying thing about Maher, apart from his being an ugly dwarf, is his constant attemps to portray himself as an "independent thinker" or "Politically incorrect". He always picks some trivial issue to attack the left on. And laps up the praise for being a "maverick" when he toes the party line 95 percent of the time. And gets angry and upset when anyone attacks a cherished liberal/left belief.
Maher thinks he is an intellectual, but creates an entire film making fun of religion and it turns out he didn't even know what the term apologetics means.
The left set up landmines all over the place to keep Trump out of the White House, but Trump returns anyway. Now, the landmines are still there, and nobody seems to have deactivation codes. (will this comment be flagged?)
Reminds me of the earlier question; how can you talk about not bringing something up without bringing it up.
Not that I'm taking sides on this issue, but Grok says Achilles statement "The Democrats boarded up the windows and shut down counting at 6 locations simultaneously in blue cities inside of swing states" is false and provides a detailed explanation: https://grok.com/chat/0e28520b-8376-4d90-bc24-12cee403e561
mamet as the wise man, tolerates this fool, awareness is a rare thing, I had glimpses of mamets turn, when he wrote for the unit, about a very distinguishable special forces cadre,
Unlike Arthur Miller, who rarely had a new insight, mccarthy well obviously witch hunt, businessmen bad, ron silver had some of that awareness, even though he often played left wing roles,
In every election where the democrats keep counting for days or weeks - and the D pulls ahead - more than likely that is a stolen election.
*Mind Crime!*
because NewsCorp is more directly run by the Murdoch sons who want to nuzzle up to the EU, interestingly sky news australia, seems to be immune to this,
lawfare, makes one deny what is the actual truth, btw there is a real trial of Dominion coming up
he is a shallow stupid little man, who opened pandoras box and doesn't want to be accountable, 'drag them to it' re obamacare, I do recall all his jibes against the Tea Party, and one of their standard bearers,
Election observers were ejected from where votes were being counted in Fulton county on spurious grounds and cardboard was put in windows to keep people from seeing into where the counting was being done. What other reason would there be for doing that than miscounting the ballots? Just asking.
the fact that 'speaking the truth, in (this) time of deceit, became a thought crime, punishable by imprisonments
( Tina Peters Navarro Bannon) death (Babbitt and Boyland) attempted emmiseration (Guiliani) tells you everything,
lawfare was employed by certain Gulf State figures, who were clearly guilty, but to point this out, risked criminal and civil penalties,
E por se move, it is a heresy that anyone would the shambling heap was legitimately elected, the margin was such in this instance, that they couldn't pull that game, so hallucinations are the order of the day,
one could just look at the evidence in the policies in the number of tragic events, apparently the Ohio derailment cancer clusters are a new bit of evidence,
If you compare Maher and Tucker, seems like Maher is hobbled by no-go signs, he's unable to just plow thru, while Tucker just talks to everybody.
Maher's refusal to acknowledge that the "Russia, if you're listening" joke was a joke is hard to understand. He's a comedian.
Where are the 10 million votes. The 2020 election was stolen big time, period. If it were not, there would have been lawsuits allowed to move forward. They were not, because the democrat justices got the results they wanted. 2024 was too big to steal.
Seven minutes is also the length of a Warner Bros. or an MGM theatrical cartoon… and not accidentally. A good artist knows when he’s finished, whether the subject is an animated rabbit with a Brooklynese accent or the Last Judgment. Bad art starts with an agenda, the list of dead horses to be flogged with his pen, brush, or chisel and never finishes. It just peters out. The Maltese Falcon runs 101 minutes and never runs out of breath. Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker runs 142 minutes and exhausts six writers somewhere around the 90-minute mark. The 2019 tuneless space opera devoured $416 million on the books plus god knows what in Disney petty cash and made back a billion and change. John Huston spent $375,000, less than J.J. Abrams spends on catering a fundraiser for Nancy Pelosi, and made back $1.8 million. Huston would have shed a hundred grand in profits for every extra minute Bogart spent saying goodbye to Mary Astor.
Moral: Know when to STFU.
well Rise had to salvage what Rian Johnson had done, as a Sith lord, was Falcon, Spades debut on film

You know, if you wish to determine whether something is true or false, you can just ask Grok. And then flip a coin. Obviously, you don't know that yet, but given time, you will learn.
the recent Gilroy production Andor, showed how badly Rian had betrayed the vision of Lucas, rendering moot the sacrifices in the original tyranny,
I must say hearing Mamet tell Maher that he is “full of shit” was a highlight on this fine Monday morning.
he didn't state the volume
Full disclosure: I could only tolerate the first 2 minutes of Maher before I decided I'd had enough of him. But I did read all the comments here. Based on only the first two minutes, my analysis is not that Maher is a doofus, or even "full of shit", which he certainly is. It's that he does not appear sober. An artist owes his audience a sober performance.
Maher says he's an old time liberal, you know, the good kind of liberal. That is a virtue signal pretty much like the ones he rails against. The funny thing is that he is just a few microns away from realizing that his old time liberal progressivism, way back to Wilson, had, from the beginning, as its destination, the insane woke mess we're experiencing now. He still thinks the Democrats will wake up and realize that they have arrived at the wrong place, politically, and adjust, but the fact is that this madness was always the end destination of that good old collectivist, progressive, elitists "liberalism".
narisco, writes, "Rise had to salvage what Rian Johnson had done..."
Your defense of excess was amusing, as I think it was intended. In reply I offer a few lines dropped from Huston's script in the interest of pacing:
GUTMAN: Then it's agreed. We'll give young Wilmer to the police, and he'll give the police agreeable backrubs. Wilmer has certainly given me a few memorable ones. Ha-Ha!
SPADE: Tehachapi's not all bad, Doll-Face. The lunchtime salad bar is to die for.
All I have to do is state things that are documented and on video.
Well, why don't you ever provide proof and links to back up your bullshit claims.
You can't, because the evidence does not exist other than in the fever swamps of right wing disinformation.
they made him into a bitter old man, which I suppose is to echo Kenobi, but for different reasons, promoting a Marie Sue like Ridley didn't help,
" An artist owes his audience a sober performance. "
Foster Brooks excepted.
We all get old. Sometimes we get smart. See Mamet, Dad. Ignore Maher, Bill.
"Rabel said...

In Megen Kelly interview a while back, Maher mentioned police killed during Jan 6.
When corrected, he was surprised but didn't really seem to care that he had believed a well known lie for years.
Oopsie. That's Mamet, David. Fingers get old too.
I feel a little sorry for Maher, but I also feel sorry for Mamet. He's a brilliant dramatist, but he's really seen what should be the zenith of his career, deflated by politics - and all because his integrity and his intellect demand that he speaks the truth as he understands it. This has made him 'the enemy', subjected to all the worst that the Progressive Leftists have to dish out to an artist with the Wrong Thinking.
Mamet doesn't interview as well as other men of letters do, unfortunately - not as quick-witted. I've watched him on Rogan and on Fox, and I'll watch this interview with Maher if I can find it. Rogan caught him up a few times, not unkindly, but by confronting what he thought was opinion masquerading as fact and Mamet didn't quite know how to respond.
@Fullmoon
Maher just knows that Orange Man Bad. Any observations he makes are simply filtered through that lens. And if reality appears to contradict that then to hell with reality.
Phrase of the day!
"Go ahead"
More "right-wing'. More independent. Sequester the thought.

I have posted these things repeatedly and you just say the same stupid things. Your problem is most of the country knows the democrats stole the 2020 election.
Even better is that it turned out to be a good thing for us. Not only did democrats blatantly steal the election they also installed an obviously incompetent puppet and tried to install an Orwellian censorship regime.
When Elon bought Twitter it broke your monopoly on defining the truth and what was acceptable to consider.
Eat a bag of dicks Freder. You don’t actually think the2020 election was legitimate either. If you did you wouldn’t object to the audits we want done.
Nobody cares about your pathetic and stupid lies.
"How would you like this part of the conversation to end so that we can move on to something else? What would end it to your satisfaction?" Wow. That is such an amazing response to an unwelcome conversation with no end in sight. Very alpha and yet not (imo) ill-mannered.
Mamet's glasses are so *interesting*.

Look at it again.
It's a very intelligent mans way of telling Maher he's stupid
I think Bill Maher is arguing that the election deniers are the sort of crazies that believe our entire society is run by secret agents of oppression and that this secret cabal wanted Joe Biden to win. Basically, the 2020 election denialists are paranoid idiots. Maher may also be concerned that this stuff about a Deep State is just a tiny step away from the Jewish conspiracy to enslave humanity found in the Elders of Zion.
Maybe. A lot of people have studied this election and have concluded that there was no evidence of systematic ballot stuffing (submission of multiple ballots per person), voter rigging (coercion or intimidation of voters) or ballot harvesting. But the election did look and feel dirty, so you can't really blame the election denialists.
As an aside, I just found out that the Elders of Zion garbage is found in textbooks in Palestine and throughout the Middle East. Kids are taught this crap. That can't be good...
"A lot of people have studied this election and have concluded that there was no evidence of systematic ballot stuffing ..."
When there is such a thing as a swing state, there is no need of systematic anything. What's useful in that case is targeted fraud. Maybe a broken water line or something like that so that you can keep on counting ballots without oversight, you know?
Another example of the debilitating effects of TDS. It really is a nation emergency. It does mentally what Polio does physically, and if Polio was this widespread, we would demand action. It would be helpful and compassionate if Trump announced a national task force to find a treatment. The old ones, while effective, are no longer legal.

Bullshit. Nobody did any actual math or did any actual investigation and concluded there was no fraud.
People have applied Benford's Law to the election and it is off the charts.
Any company that had numbers in their books as bad as the 2020 election analysis would be immediately hauled into a fraud investigation and required to open their books and prove their innocence.
Once there is enough evidence of fraud in accounting by a company you lose the presumption of innocence and you have to comply with calls for transparency by investigators.
The 2020 elections are way past that mark. If a company was caught destroying evidence and blocking audits of source material as much as the regime the officers would all be in jail.
And if the election was legit they would not have resorted to censorship.
Period.
Listening to Maher talk about the election is like reading Quora, annoying errors everywhere and he loses the details. I never do that, of course :) Sturgeon's law applies, 90% of everything is sh!t.
If Maher had the courage of his convictions, he’d be in basically the same place Mamet is—voting Republican despite some misgivings because the Republicans have the better more practical program.
The main evidence that the 2016 election was stolen is circumstantial. There was a massive and unprecedented attempt by Joe Biden to steal the 2020 election. This included the arrest of his political opponent and charging him with an insane number of felonies. He should go down in history as an awful president on that basis alone.
But Biden also cheated in his own election by hiding his medical condition, and running a phony primary where no one was allowed to compete with him. He cheated his own voters, and did not hesitate to do so.
Also, a cabal of Democrats hid his medical condition from the American people. This included Democrats in the White House, Democrats in Congress, and Democrats in the media. Another big secret is that Biden was not actually in charge for much of his presidency, and other people were pulling the strings. And we still don't know who was really in charge.
So if you want evidence that the 2016 election was stolen? Just look how the people who "won" that election behaved while they were in office.
Bill with his talk about ringers seems to completely forget that it was Hillary and the Steele dossier that brought in the completely fabricated Russian connection. Was there cheating in the 2020 election. Certainly. Did it affect the results? Probably. All those drop boxes in Atlanta? Yeah, they changed the outcome. I am very interested in the upcoming Senate election in Georgia, I suspect it will tell us a lot. Maricopa county in Arizona? THAT told us a lot. But Michigan and Wisconsin are pretty murky and I suspect they will remain so. But Trump's over the top statements on the road were just his way of bringing attention to the fact that Hillary should have been criminally charged and wasn't. And it resonated. As for Biden, everyone in the Biden administration should be charged with elder abuse.
St. Croix: aren’t you talking about the 2020 and 2024 elections (not 2016 and 2020)?
