Said JD Vance, talking to Theo Von. Audio and transcript here, at Podscribe. YouTube here.
Vance continues: "So hopefully Elon... figures it out, comes back into the fold. I know the president, you know, for, for a couple days — I'll tell you just, you know, I don't want to reveal too many confidences. But you know, it was getting a little frustrated, feeling like some of the criticisms were unfair coming from Elon, but I think it's been very restrained, because the president doesn't think that he needs to be in a blood feud with Elon Musk. And I actually think if Elon chilled out a little bit, everything would be fine...."
Theo tries to cue up a question about Musk's prediction that Trump's tariffs will cause a recession, but he gets sidetracked into something about — of all things — spaghetti: "Yeah. So... I don't know Mr. Musk, I never met Mr. Musk. One time, he fed my buddy spaghetti at a party though, dude, that I, my buddy. They were, people were raging and shit."
Vance is good at holding his ground. He inserts: "Your buddy couldn't feed himself a spaghetti?"
Theo: "Well, my buddy said he offered my buddy some spaghetti and my buddy said, yeah, I'd like to have some and then it, but only if you feed it to him... but instead of getting him a plate of spaghetti, he made him something, put it in his mouth. Dude."
Vance then says, "Does your buddy know Frederick Douglass?" And that refers back to something Theo had said earlier in the conversation, which was "I heard Frederick Douglass was gay."
So that was Vance joking that the spaghetti story made Musk seem gay. Theo becomes nearly incoherent. He beats up on himself: "Fucking ruin this shit, dude. Fuck dude. Civics, man. Chill out."
Eventually, he composes himself and asks: "Do you think Elon Musk is for the people?"
Vance: "I mean, I think that he's making a mistake in going after the president. I think his heart is in the good place. In the right place, man. I do. Like, I, I, I think he got into this for the right reasons. I think he's frustrated. I think he's an emotional guy. Honestly. I'm a very emotional guy.... The president is... not... quick to temper.... He's not one of these guys who flies off the handle.... He's stoic... But I, but I, I, I think I, so yeah, I think Elon means the best, but I think he's making a mistake...."
The door is clearly open for Elon, when he calms down, to return to the fold.

…when you see something that could be accomplished in a couple weekdays be ground up by congressional institutional stupidity that’s gotta be infuriating. I don’t blame him…
From what I’ve heard Elon say, I think he believes that we’re on a precipice and that the Trump victory was an opportunity to get off the precipice. But that opportunity, to me included, fixing the budget deficit and getting the federal government house in order. This bill doesn’t seem to do anything to fix the budget deficit. I’m guessing that Elon‘s frustration is from seeing an opportunity be not taken - one that may never come again.
it may be that it's practically impossible to do this type of reforms with this bill, can we trust the Congress to follow through the next round, 'what's the definiition of insanity'
"Social Security is a government program with a constituency made up of the old, the near old and those who hope or fear to grow old. After 215 years of trying, we have finally discovered a special interest that includes 100 percent of the population. Now we can vote ourselves rich." - PJ O'Rourke
Looks like the MAGA Republicans are officially fiscally irresponsible.

DOGE is ON! Patience. This "Feud" is as "real" as the Jack Benny vs. Fred Allen Feud. Pure show biz to keep the short attention spans of Americans focused on the reforms that are needed to SAVE THE REPUBLIC. Stay tuned!
SS is an insurance program. It insures you against outliving your savings. An average person can save enough for an average retirement lifetime but not for the longest possible retirement lifetime. Hence the insurance - risk sharing.
People whose houses don't burn down are not suckered by payments to people whose houses burn down. Risk shared to make it affordable is the point of insurance.
Nor is it a Ponzi scheme.
There's a meme circulating right now that says something like: "I'm not saying we have to do it to all of them, I'm just saying we should tar & feather one Congressman, and then see what happens."
After running up $37 trillion in debt, expecting Congress to do something different is more in line with the definition of insanity, when the only motivation is another trivial election. Trump has disrupted politics, and disrupted the Democratic party, but he's only made a few dents & scratches in Business As Usual.
yes but is there enough tar, not to mention feathers,

When is Trump going to threaten defamation? He ALWAYS threatens defamation. But not now and inquiring minds now exactly why.
Trump didn't campaign on fixing the budget. Reducing the deficit wasn't a campaign promise I don't think. Seems like a good idea, but I wouldn't want to be goaded into it. As President he has to be pragmatic, and compromise at some point. But at this juncture, it looks pretty week to be manipulated into doing things by a modern-day plutocrat having a temper tantrum.
"From what I’ve heard Elon say, I think he believes that we’re on a precipice and that the Trump victory was an opportunity to get off the precipice. No shit! After all of this, Trump rolls out $1000 Trump Babies? The Dems will make turn them $10,000 Blue Babies when they take over in four years. We are so fucked.
"Trump didn't campaign on fixing the budget. Reducing the deficit wasn't a campaign promise I don't think."
DOGE was definitely a campaign promise. Your recollection is mistaken.
Social Security is the one Government program that works. People and Employers pay in and the money goes out. For years the money in exceeded the outlays. But this money was not put in the Al Gore "lockbox", instead it was used to reduce the deficit caused by all the other spending.
So, now money from the General fund will have to used to pay SS. This upsets the Politicians and people like Musk. But the obvious solution is to (1) raise the payroll cap on SS Taxes to 10 million and (2) stop paying SS benefits to illegals and recently arrived Immigrants.
But of course, they dont want to do that. So they're constantly talking about cutting social security. The Republicans and losertarians can't help themselves. Its a giant gift to the Democrats. They're like some Dog who wants to roll in the horse manure. "Dont do that" you say but they do it anyway.
apparently unlike rhhardin, i worked Most of my life in the insurance industry. we did HO (homeowners) in most states.
If we'd paid out MORE in fire claims than we took in in premiums; we WOULDN'T have been an insurance company, we would have been a FAILED FORMER Insurance company.
To compare SS with insurance is another way of saying that you know NOTHING about insurance
One reason Trump got nominated in 2016, IRC, is he was the only one who forthrightly said he was against illegal immigration and had zero desire to touch SS and medicare. All the others droned on and on about "We have to cut the deficit" and "Invade the world and invite the world".
"...He ALWAYS threatens defamation. But not now and inquiring minds...."
Keep blowing, there could be some smoke somewhere and if there could be smoke, then there could be fire - or something.

Nor is it a Ponzi scheme.
It is in the sense that today's contributors (plus regular/future taxpayers) pay today's benefits. In normal insurance or annuities, the company invests your premiums and pays you out of the proceeds. Gore's lockbox never existed, the "trust fund" is just IOUs that will all be redeemed in a few years.

Comments like this drives me crazy. Republicans passed that bill by one vote and it took months to get there. Oh, just la di da pass another bill with more cuts. Like you order a sandwich.
And Elon is guilty of this as well.’ You know in all of this has anyone seen ONE think Elon would take out of this bill? Just one? I mean even Rand Paul has said he’s perfectly happy with this bill except for debt limit increase. Which I also think is stupid, but at least he has said what will get him there. Elon hasn’t, just rants and raves.
When unemployment ins. payments ran out months after the 2008 crash, SS Disability payouts grew considerably. Wonder how many of those are still on it, with or without new jobs.
Some budget charts I saw on X last night had over $600B for "Income Security." I thought welfare rolls were way down, but that's a lot of people. One gets the feeling the govt statistics for inflation and unemployment are not terribly accurate nowadays.
Social Security is a government program with a constituency made up of people who know not to bring a cell phone to a Revolution and to bring an AR-15 instead. That's why we keep getting our checks on time.
Social Security is the one Government program that works.
It works mostly to the benefit of the government.
The ROI for SS is about 1%. The ROI for investing in the stock market is 7-8%. In other words, I would be a helluva lot richer of I did not have to contribute to Social Security, but put the money in the market instead.
It occurred to me given that Hawktuah Jeffries and Chuckles Schumer have announced their agreement with Elon Musk, won’t it be hilarious (and embarrassing for both of those Democrat a*holes) when the spat is over and the Dim Dems have suffered another big loss. Ha ha.
But then I remembered the incontestable fact that lefties don’t embarrass easy. I then realized, I could live with that.
A beautiful Saturday morning to all…
In the belly of the sausage factory
If I had to pick a side, and I don't really think that's necessary, I'm more on Elon's. I'd prefer a skinny beautiful bill. I'd prefer Jarad Isaacman heading NASA. I've looked at purchasing a Tesla, and I wouldn't qualify for the EV credits, so it is a non-issue. And you cancel all federal government funding to Musk's business and accomplish a few things: Prove to the world that Trump is using government funding for revenge rather than good policy, end the ISS program immediately, make Golden Dome (and Space Force) impossible to implement, and delay human exploration to the moon and beyond by another generation.
Unless the WH thinks they can put Musk in jail; you can take away all his businesses, and he'd have enough money and incentive to go anywhere in the world and recreate them. Why did "Biden not do it"? Because even the cabal running Biden wasn't that stupid.
The ROI for SS is about 1%. The ROI for investing in the stock market is 7-8%. In other words, I would be a helluva lot richer of I did not have to contribute to Social Security
That's if you even get more than you put in. Even accounting for a rather long life, I don't think I will get what I put into Social Security. Maybe COLAs will have Social Security catch up with what I put in, but I'm not counting on them or SS.
rhhardin: Social Security is not quite an insurance program. Sure, it was sold as that, and continues to be sold as that. But it was then, and remains, stream of income for the government with which to spend on favored projects. SS returns people about 1%, possibly 2% on their money. A typical Whole Life Policy might return anywhere from 1% to 4.5% or more. Of course, on a Whole Life policy you only 'win' when you die.
SS is there for government to use the money for...various and sundry things that others (lobbyists) tell them they need to spend on. We are literally borrowing now to pay for my ss check. Someone has to pay the interest on that borrowing.
I'd have loved to been able to keep my money that was taken out of my checks over the years and put it into just about anything else. I could throw a dart at an investment dart board with blinders on and come up with better returns than Social Security.
Plus- we cannot afford it if we're paying for gender studies in Uganda.
Anyway...Vance nails it on Musk.
If Trump is not in the Epstein files, he's going to fire off a tweet saying, ‘I'm suing Elon Musk for libel, because you're making this outrageous allegation. Even though I'm a public figure, I think I'm going to beat you in the libel lawsuit.’
But so far, we haven't heard peep from Trump about that.
When Trump leaves and JD takes command the liberals will wish they had Trump back.
Whoever now owns Drudge has been absolutely *obsessed* this feud since it began. Like there has not been a SINGLE link to a story about the better-than-expected May jobs numbers or how well the markets did this week. All Musk v. Trump all the time. It even had a link up to a story about how "Vance has been awkwardly silent" which now, obviously, has been taken down.
"In other words, I would be a helluva lot richer of I did not have to contribute to Social Security, but put the money in the market instead."
But, argue those who insist that you be forced to contribute to Social Security, people won't invest that money- they'll just spend it. And then, those taking your Social Security "contributions" don't invest that money- they just spend it.
Maybe it's just a mitzvah that Trump did for Musk as a thank you in order to help out his car business. Or maybe Trump needs to take a golf vacation in Scotland, or something. Whatever. He is still trying to tamp down the Ukraine war and keep Netanyahu from blowing up the Middle East, so I am still behind him.
"SS isnt a good investment."
Well duh. Its not an investment. Its insurance. Its actually a transfer of money from Younger working people to old retired people. Just like we transfer money to the unemployed and the poor.
To sell the program, it was originally sold as "Insurance" with the Goverment "putting aside money" in a "trust fund". But that's just fake. Money is money and Revenue is revenue. The Feds spend so much every year on everything, and do so by taxes and borrowing.
Bush 41 full of contempt for average Americans. He wanted to "Reform SS" by seting up investment accounts. But he didn't sell it that way. He sold it by saying SS was "Going broke" and the only way to "Fix it" was by passing his bill. Which was a lie - of course.
The whole scheme would've made rich wall street, even richer. And probably made the budget deficit even worse. But then when did either Bush President ever tell the truth?
They’re not going to release the Epstein files, are they?
Short answer no.
Long answer absolutely not.
Trump was right along side with Epstein for 10 years.
IMO, The person who could break this wide open is Epstein's girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently in a Florida Prison, for underage sex trafficking.
YOu wont get what you put into SS. Well neither am I.
And I'm not going to get back what that portion of my taxes that go to medicaid either. And DoD and the HUD aren't paying me back. Nor is Ukraine or Israel.
When it all comes out, Donnie T raping sex trafficked teenage girls with his close personal friend, Jeff Epestein, in all likelihood, doesn’t even crack the top 10 list for the most vile things he’s been involved in.
D-bag wishes she worked for Maddow.
The left to lose their collective minds over JD Vance and create false narratives and lies.... soon.
Trump haters live a rich fantasy life.
Folks on here say Social Security works - DODGE found it works for 10s of thousands of people to use a fake number or to take a dead person's check to the bank as a kind of monthly gift from beyond the grave. We have found that the Small Biz folks have been lending to 10 year olds whose SS# is used by parents. We the American people have discovered that a DC game of hide the money for the "Poor of the world in the bank accounts of friends of insiders." We had a good idea that "some foreign Aid" was being abused but the true nature is appalling. And why do we know these things? Pres Trump asked Musk to bring some IT people he knew to DC - none of them had been on the campaign trail for ANY Republican and yet they volunteered their time and talent to help SAVE our government.
DODGE is an example of what a FORMER president did not know what he did not know. Heck he thought it was a few BAD people not an entire infrastructure used by INSIDERS for 20 years or more.
D-Bag-Democreep -
You have some actual proof that Trump does sex trafficking?
There is WAY more proof that the left are advocates and complicit in and promote sexual abuse of illegal entrant children. Cruel a-holes.
i only hire the best people djt just like soap opera to steer away from prices aint down,Ukraine war still raging,Gaza FUKED UP, Americans paying more and more, etc..look over here :(

The Left (which apparently owns Drudge now) is desperate for a "win" against Trump to salve their bruised egos. I'm already seeing where Elon has backed off the Epstein accusations. I suspect this will calm down in a week.
Meanwhile, there's still the question of who was actually running the country during the Biden Admin and wielding the Autopen to consider!
DODGE [sic] found it works for 10s of thousands of people to use a fake number or to take a dead person's check to the bank as a kind of monthly gift from beyond the grave.
This is just a bald-faced lie. I didn't bother to check the rest of your assertions in your comment, but I bet they are lies too. Just because the monkeys flying out of your butt tell you something, it doesn't make it true.
Please provide links for your baseless assertions.

Good thing Althouse isn't! And her coverage of the May jobs report and the stock market were in-depth and relevant.
"But it was then, and remains, stream of income for the government"
The government must instantly return to the economy every dollar it takes in, lest the money supply fall. It leaves behind an IOU in the SS trust fund.
You can't produce future services by hoarding dollars today if you're the whole economy.
"Folks on here say Social Security works - DODGE found it works for 10s of thousands of people to use a fake number or to take a dead person's check to the bank as a kind of monthly gift from beyond the grave. Its called fraud. Every business/Government system has fraud. The fraud in SS went unchecked because the Democrats want illegals to have SS numbers so they can vote and get Government benefits. The refusal to control access to SS numbers was part of the same Biden plan as refusing to control the border or enforce the immigration laws.
RE: Epstein files. Kash Patel (Head of FBI now) was on Rogan yesterday, and he stated that there is nothing useable in all of the evidence recovered in the investigation. He basically asked the public to bring him any evidence that's out there.

And I'm sure you would have saved and invested it wisely. But the problem SS addresses is that tens of millions would not have and would now be broke and too old to work and support themselves and quite literally out on the street.
The idea of paying into an old age assistance program while you work and drawing a modest check in your elder years seems better to me than the old age assistance program which would surely exist in some form without SS.
It's not perfect and demographic changes have upset the financials but when it was started investing in the stock market was not something available to the average American.
Changing the system now in anything other than a very long term modification just doesn't seem feasible to me.
I'm sure a few of the local hard asses "let them starve, they should have saved" but I'm not in that group.
Neither are most Americans.
Also, I remember the first book I read about investing in stocks - the advice was "Don't do it. The broker fees will kill you." That of course was pre-internet.
well what fees are we paying for the mismanagement of that fund,
doesn’t even crack the top 10 list for the most vile things he’s been involved in
And yet he's still a better person than you are.

In 24 wretched years, my late step-monster spent my late father's life savings, his parents', and his third of my mother's. If he didn't have a nice Navy pension and SS, he'd have had very little left--but without the pensions, she wouldn't have married him. Twelve years dead, and she can still wind me up.

So what? Times v. Sullivan still requires proof of malice.
If and only if Musk knew his statement was false when he said could Trump make that claim.
Maybe that's why Trump is balking at actually filing suit.
In any event your usual lame-o attempt tp insinuate that not filing suit is evidence of guilt is ka-ka.
Social Security is one program that works? From SSA: "The Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) Trust Fund will be able to pay 100 percent of total scheduled benefits until 2033." Does that work for you?
What happens in 2033? It's only 8 years from now.
What happens in 2033?
The IOUs from the SS surplus years run out, so Congress must appropriate additional funds annually to make up the difference between the FICA taxes and benefits, or benefits are automatically cut pretty drastically.
That's assuming the govt can still borrow enough before 2033 to pay off the IOUs and pay the interest on debt and run the rest of govt.
“Vance continues: "So hopefully Elon... figures it out, comes back into the fold.”
What a metaphor! Elon is a sheep who has wandered away from the enclosure. Better get back in the fold before the wolves eat you, Elon!
"DODGE [sic] found it works for 10s of thousands of people to use a fake number or to take a dead person's check to the bank as a kind of monthly gift from beyond the grave."
The backup for above statements is at Doge.gov. Try reading.
Some things Doge found and presented evidence for at DOGE.gov. There were 20 million names attached to valid social security numbers which were the names of people who were older than 120. These people were mostly not receiving social security though some definitely were. But this was a bank of valid numbers that any fraudster could draw on for any of the purposes for which one needs a Social Security number such as work, loans and government programs. For example, the Small Business Adminstration awarded $300,000,000 to people using these "valid" numbers. Doge found this out months ago, went to work and and finished eliminating the 20 million names just this week
There are enormous numbers of licenses of software which the government is paying for and which far exceed the number of employees at the agencies making the payments. Doge found this out and is eliminating the excess licenses.
Retiring Government employees were having their claims processed by paperwork conducted underground in an old mine and which took six months. Doge found this out and just finished a successful tryout of a digitized system which is faster and cheaper and will be implemented government-wide.
The Biden administration pushed out $93 billion dollars out between election night and the day Trump was sworn in. Doge is hunting down this money and the Department of Energy with their help just found and clawed back $3 billlion.
There's plenty more stories like that which can be read at the Doge site.
Similarly
The day Trump came to power the border closed.
The trade deficit has been cut in half.
Tariffs have brought in $100 billion.
NATO's European members have agreed to spend money on European defence.
Manufacturing is returning through investments. The taxes on this will balance the budget.
The new economy will help balance the budget.
Recruiting for the Armed Forces, the police and the Coast Guard and Border patrol is up. The stock market is up. Employment is up.
100k illegal migrants have left. Inflation is down. Eggs are down. Gas is down.
3 Supreme Court decisions have been unanimous including one which ruled that discriminating against whites was unconstitutional and which was written by Ketanji Brown Jackson.
It is said that Hell is turning away people because it has frozen over and they are walking over toward Purgatory to reform. But none of these wannabe-reformed are in Congress, the lower courts, polling companies or the legacy media.
Congress has a bill before it that will lower the projected deficit and will make many reforms statutory. But it must be enacted by the reconcilation process which means that it must pass the Senate pretty much as it was enacted by the House and though some like Trump, Musk, the Dode guys and Mike Johnson have found it possible over the last hundred days to do incredible things it has not been possible for Dem House members and Senators to give a damn about the American people as compared with their preoccupation with their ratty, discredited party. And the GOP has members equally intent on carrying about rotting remnants of a past they won't clean up - the remnants of once great campaigns that now look like back-of-the-refrigerator horrors. These disgusting maneuvers are pushed by pollsters, and justified by the legacy media. Meanwhile judges usurp the functions of legislaters and demand respect for the usurpation.
And that was the First Hundred Days, my children. I was there and I tell you: "It was the best of times; it was the worst of times."
If the rest of the government can be financed with deficit spending, why not the social social security and Medicare systems?
The Republicans Party is never going to eliminate the deficit, because here is how their wealthy donors look at the choices:
A. Congress can increase my taxes to reduce the deficit. I don’t see the money I pay in taxes again.
B. Congress can run deficits, borrow the money it needs from me instead, pay me interest, and eventually pay me back the principal. Instead of paying taxes, I get an investment return.
The wealthy donors are always going to choose B. It doesn’t matter if the level of government spending is high or low, B is better for them. Even if Elon Musk had saved $2 trillion in spending, they would still choose B.
The coverage of the Trump/Musk "kiss and make up" will not be covered with this much enthusiasm. And should Musk come back for another shot at DOGEing the federal government next year for 130 days, media heads will implode.
