"Law enforcement officers exchanged fire with the gunman while the wildfire burned. Officials later found the body of a male suspect on the mountain with a firearm nearby.... The authorities said they believed the suspect had acted alone, but they did not release any information about his identity or motives. 'This was a total ambush,' Sheriff Norris said. 'These firefighters did not have a chance.'... Graham Christensen, a past president of the Lake City Trail Alliance, said the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department regularly performed brush clearing and fire suppression there, and said he did not know of a naturally caused wildfire there in the past two decades. He said the attack was a shock because the area had always felt so safe. 'Everybody feels comfortable up there,' he said...."

Since I'm from Spokane, I get various news stories from out there and there was a similar ambush last week or so. A man called 9-11 indicating that he found a dead man with a gun nearby. When authorities arrived, he opened fire on them.
No "social breakdown" tag?
Wielding a liberal license to entertain abortive ideation in a novel deal: To Relieve a "Burden".
Tragic. Find them. Kill or incarcerate them - forever.
As a side note I see:
"Graham Christensen, a past president of the Lake City Trail Alliance, said the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department regularly performed brush clearing and fire suppression there, and said he did not know of a naturally caused wildfire there in the past two decades."
Huh. Interesting. So Trump was right on clearing forests and global climate change apparently skipped Idaho.
Evil. And nothing about this story makes sense.
Sick guy. Too many firefighters, he thought...
Sadly, this sounds like yet another "Suicide by Cop". Namely, the perpetrator wants to end his life, feeling everything in his life is collapsing, and worst of all, unnoticed, so he chooses to go out in a blaze of infamy by killing others, with the expectation that he will be killed in return by the police. So yes, his name and unfortunate circumstances will finally be known.
There is a hell. And he started one fire but will spend eternity in another.
State-assisted selfie-abortion? His Choice. Wrong venue.
'some people just want to watch the world burn' probably mostly peaceful antifa,
why on earth would anyone want to do this?
total insanity.
Now firefighters need to play the roll of police, with shields and body armor.
Peachy, now? Attacking first responders has been an urban hobby for decades.
In the absence of details, our imaginations run wild, and we can assign his motives and affiliations in the ways that best match our priors.
Bless the firemen who went in to save lives. Bless the police who risked their lives to save the firemen. To hell with the animal or animals who plotted this, regardless of their political affiliation.
Idaho always had a rep for preppers and militias, on the other hand the locals complain about Californication. who knows. the dead are apparently two Battalion Chiefs who rolled up in pick-ups before the pumpers
Fred - Police - sure - but now firefighters? I guess I was not aware.

Collateral damage. Narcissistic advantage. Her, His Choice.
In China, mass abortions are prosecuted with a scalpel, a blade is Green, eco-friendly.
We have a name now - Wes Roley - but no information. Except the comments on X that he's a MAGA loving fascist POS....
Idaho: Must wait and see.
Yes Idaho has a reputation for attracting an odd lot (@The Drill SGT), but it's also the home of the Ruby Ridge (1992) debacle. Ruby Ridge wasn't suicide by cop (@planetgeo), rather, the needless killing of the wife, son, and dog of a guy targeted by/framed the feds.
Per @Temujin, nothing here makes sense. Yet.
