I don't want to read a Clooney-centric account of how the Democrats allowed Joe Biden to win the nomination and then swiped it from him.

The New Yorker has this excerpt from Jake Tapper's new book: "How Joe Biden Handed the Presidency to Donald Trump/At a fateful event last summer, Barack Obama, George Clooney, and others were stunned by Biden’s weakness and confusion. Why did he and his advisers decide to conceal his condition from the public and campaign for reĆ«lection?"

I bailed early, preferring to interact with Grok. My prompts, exactly as I wrote them, presented in order and with zero Grok-written material:
1. Summarize this article: https://www.newyorker.com/news/the-political-scene/how-joe-biden-handed-the-presidency-to-donald-trump

2. I skimmed it and it seemed so Clooney-focused it put me off

3. I'd like a critical perspective on the piece that is skeptical of this interest in Clooney. I don't care to read a step by step story of what happened as Biden got excluded from the nomination he won in the primaries. I want much more skepticism about the way the Democratic Party allowed him to win the nomination in the first place and got itself into the seeming (or bullshit) jam it was in last summer

4. Did Democrats engineer a nomination for Harris that she couldn't have won in a fair primary or did Democrats accidentally wait too long to lose hope in Biden and find themselves in the position where they couldn't avoid giving it to Harris? And how did the mainstream media contribute to the problem?

5. Make a clear and concise list of why Tapper's going Clooney-centric exemplifies what's wrong with mainstream media politics and with the Democratic Party

I've spared you any material written by Grok, because I presume you don't want to read what was written without a human mind. But I think what Grok wrote is more useful than what's in The New Yorker.

In case you want to read how the machine reacted to my prompts, here's the link.

If you go to the Grok link and read, you'll see that prompt #4 appears twice. That happened because I corrected a typo. Notice "did Democrats accidentally wait to long" and "did Democrats accidentally wait too long." The "to" for "too" misspelling didn't trip Grok up, but I correct typos (when I see them).

The sputtering rage from the Left is even more pronounced now, but outside of the fart sniffers, no one is listening. Once it's established that you are a liar, screaming that someone else is the liar is ineffective. But when your livelihood depends on deception, what is the choice?

I read the Grok responses (I generally find them interesting! And it's amazing how far AI has come, to state the obvious), and was reminded of the I, Robot story Liar!. (Hey, Mr. D, we're on some kind of wavelength,)

In that story, a robot is able to read minds, and learns to lie in order to spare human feelings, in compliance with the First Law of Robotics (robots may not harm humans or allow them to come to harm). Eventually, this robot is forced to confront the dilemma that both its lie and the truth cause harm to a human, and it "goes crazy" and more or less dies.

Evidently there's a First Law of Media (or maybe of Media Access) that works the same way, but I don't hold out a lot of hope that this forced confrontation will lead to media's institutionalization or death, much less therapeutic reform.

A first-draft-of-history narrative is very dependent on its sources--who is willing to talk to the authors. The upside to talking is that you can get your version on the record. Clooney obviously spent hours with Tapper et al. Biden obviously not at all. What about Pelosi ? Schumer ? Grok needs to analyze whose perspectives drive the book.

I don't blame Joe Biden because when dementia was taking my mom, she insisted on staying in her house well passed the point where it made any sense.

Tapper hopes people are interested in Clooney enough to keep reading while he explains that corporate media still has value and that Democrats care about something other than power.

If Tapper is actually a journalist, he could look into who made presidential decisions, who controlled access to Biden and when 25th Amendment discussions should have started.

Getting a Democratic presidential candidate was a shit show, but we had a dementia president for an unknown length of time. Let's talk about that.

They've completely missed any lessons to be learned.

And they're writing books to prove it.

I have read elsewhere in the media that the Biden administration's spin doctors were sizing old Joe up for a permanent wheelchair for the rest of his presidency as with FDR, but unlike Mr Roosevelt Biden was going to openly use it just like the governor of Texas uses his. If that's true, and it seems quite plausible, somebody knew Biden was not up to four more years as POTUS physically. So they knew.

RCOCEAN II said...

Grok seems to talk a lot, but not many facts.

Its obvious the plan was to renominate biden despite his senility. After all, all Biden had to do was get through the debates. And later do a few speeches with a telepromter. The MSM was a propaganda arm of the DNC. And was covering up for him.

And since Biden was being renominated, why have primaries? That's whats so great about the D party from an elite perspective. You have leftwing losers who will vote for your party no matter what - and will accept any candidate the elite select.

BTW, you'll notice the fake Bernie Bros and so-called "Smart Democrats" said zero when the DNC cancelled the primaries. Who needs voting?

Once it became clear Biden was a sure loser, they could have held an open convention. But Democrat insiders decided it was better to nominate Kamala. After all, what would black Democrats think if the first black VP was passed over for a white guy? And there really wasn't anyone better than Kamala out there in the summer of 2024.

Christopher B said...

While some exceptions might be made for the nomination of an incumbent President (though that courtesy was not extended to Jimmy Carter) in my opinion the Democrats haven't run a clean primary for President since at least 1992 when Cuomo Senior did his MacBeth impression for too long to get started in the primaries (they would have greased the skids for him, too). The possible exception might be 2008.
Once Obama got some momentum there was no way the Dem PTB were going to cut off the first black to be a serious contender for the nomination regardless of the promises that had been made to Hillary. Virtually every non-incumbent primary since Carter surprised them with his win in 1976 (he made his splash in Iowa but actually came in second to "uncommitted") has featured rule changes and outright stage management to produce the 'right' nominee.

The answer to the question is obviously the second part of #4. The DNC-adjacent MSM dragged Obama over the line in 2012, got Trump nominated in 2016, and then dragged Biden's corpse into the winner's circle in 2020. They were sure they could 'hide the decline' again in 2024 until Biden shat the bed in the debate.

Personally, I don't think it mattered. Again, from an elite perspective that's whats so great about the D Party. Everyone in congress (or 99 percent) marchs in lockstep and toe the party line. Every Democrat Canidate and major Politician supports the same policy positions. They agree on 90 percent of everything, 90 percent of the time.

So, there's no reason to think Biden disagreed with anything being done in his name. Or if was 100 percent healthy things would've been diffrent. Nor would "Kamala" been different from Senile Biden. They're all peas in a pod.

The book publisher is so freaked out by the outcry before the book’s release that they’ve released a reel of Tapper’s alleged investigative reporting clips, such as “a majority of voters don’t think the president should be running for re-election” utterances. It comes down to who, if anyone, controls the party and in what matters. If it came down to Clooney and Obama to get rid of Biden, was there really a deep plan at work to give Harris the nomination? Was anyone in the party really in love with Kamala Harris? If you had the power and a plan, you'd probably want to get Biden out of the race early and have primaries to see who the strongest candidate was. You'd get Biden out of the way early to give Harris or someone else a decent chance to win. But whoever was in charge couldn't dislodge Biden, so they hoped for the best from Joe but scheduled the debate with Trump earlier than usual so that they could get rid of Joe if he couldn't cut it.

Quaestor said...

Lazarus makes some good points, but his assessment hinges on plans being logical. Sometimes they are, but often they are not, particularly when plans are created or managed by groups. A political plan is just a route map to a destination, a desired state of affairs. In following any map there are alternative routes, detours, side trips, as well as hazards, breakdowns, and an invisible scattering of the caltrops of fate.

I think we'll eventually discover that 2024 was a classic example of the destruction of the powerful by means of their own hubris. Joe Biden was always a syncretic stew of stupidity and arrogance. From the very beginning, without a vigilant army of handlers, coaches, speech writers, and compliant reporters Biden was doomed to destroy himself either by boasting of his prowess or by stealing a biography. He won in 2020 because Trump was grievously weakened by Russia-Russia-Russia calumnies and by the fortuitous intervention of the Red Chinese in the form of a bio-weapon attack on the West that allowed Biden to be physically hidden from the voters with the then-plausible rationale of quarantine. The deception was so easy the ad hoc Biden management committee were confident they could pull off the same con job one more time, Democratic voters being monumental rubes fully beneath the worst expectations of Alexis de Tocqueville. However, Joe's brain continued to decay.

At some point in 2022, Biden plunged into full-blown dementia. Fortunately for the Deep State, this wasn't an insurmountable development. The management committee chaired by Doctor Jill was already in full control of the Executive Branch apparatus. They owned the White House autopen. They owned the White House press corps like a spinster owns cats. And they owned Joe Biden -- a homunculus, a child-fondling golem fueled by chocolate ice cream and Gatorade. All they need to continue their covert coup d'etat was one more election campaign, and all that needed was a ambulatory Joe, which they believed could be provided by a cocktail of drugs, hormones, and powdered monkey glands injected by a quack. One way or another their witches brew collapsed on live television like a sitcom soufflƩ.
