I liked the study that came out over the weekend about journalists bei low iq drunks.

It was peer reviewed! How dare anyone question it?

This is a great way to diminish and shame up-and-coming news organizations (many with far larger audiences) in favor of established, trusted names in news such as CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS and the Associated Press. Trump has heard of them, and very seldom encourages those "journalists" to "get a real job."

That's the message conveyed here and it's the message that will kill all of Trump's election-garnered momentum when he was amplifying marginalized voices.

Stupid move.

NOTUS claims to be a nonprofit. They should check with MSNBC to see how making no profit is working out for them.

You jest, of course.

At this point, it’s blindingly and immediately obvious when a “journalist” is a prog hysteria-monger. They’ve absolutely trashed the credibility of their own profession. Trump’s contempt here is completely merited.

He has criticized the established media reporters in much more systematic, and occasionally personal, way. This was some off-the-cuff mild criticism. HTFU and get on with life. A nothing-burger incident that will only live on in the dark bowels of the archives of this blog. Maybe also in the PTSD this has caused you? I don't know, we'll see.

It was also mildly amusing and earned an unctuously sardonic, maybe even emmoliently embalminating, grin.

POTUS and SCOTUS are acronyms of actual constitutional branches of the US government. Which branch, which part of the constitution, created NOTUS?

Or are they just a bunch of clowns who think giving themselves an impressive name makes them impressive?

If you go to their website Homepage, you'll be treated to Who They Are, and then Who Their Donors Are, and then nice little portrait photos of All Of Them, and then, finally, at the bottom, a couple of sections of news stories. Trump was being kind.

Original Mike said...

Well, journalists in general have completely thrown their credibility in the trash, so a new organization does not start out with the benefit of the doubt. But, we'll see.

It doesn't bode well that they have chosen an acronym mimicking an official government function.

Bob Boyd said...

The media became very used to politicians fearing them. Trump doesn't and why should he? He can't win with them no matter what. They're going to write the worst things they can come up with about him regardless. They destroyed their own power when it comes to Trump.
Trump supporters love it when he talks to "journalists" that way and so do a lot of people who aren't necessarily supporters but who are disgusted by what they see on the "news".

Renaming an old bunch of clowns NOTUS doesn't make them new.

stlcdr said...

Just like Axios (2017), they [NOTUS.org) have not been around long (just over a year) but you are led to believe they are a news organization and not some random web site.

Axios was a software solutions company before then.

So NOTUS is going to tell us how it really is and why it really is. It's associated with Politico, the news outlet that informed America that anybody who doubted Biden's mental acuity after the debate was a right wing conspiracy theorist. Oh Kaaay.

I despise both acronyms, POTUS and SCOTUS, particularly the inclusion of the preposition and the article. Google's AI disagrees, but I take that contention as a point in my favor. We don't need to make acronyms pronounceable. Generally, acronyms are for saving paper and ink further down in a document after the full title has been clearly stated. We have far too many as it is, so speak established words whenever possible. Neologisms are for new concepts, the presidency isn't new, nor is the high court.

POTUS and SCOTUS are slacker talk. If you want my respect, say "the President"; and while you're at it, ditch the hoodie. Trust me. In 20 years, those with POTUS on their lips might as well say 23 skidoo.

narciso said...

SeanF said...

Quaestor: We don't need to make acronyms pronounceable.

Maybe we don't need to make abbreviations pronouncable, but pronouncability is the defining characteristic that makes an acronym.

"i suspect they were garbage publication, why else would tractor rupar, white night for them"

NOTUS is currently an online publication sponsored by non-profit AJI, whose site contains a list of its financial sponsors.

There is not BS there, unlike expressions used here like "rupar" which the Urban Dictionairy defines as a verb meaning "to purposely mislead and completely mischaracterize" - which is what you are doing, narciso.

Your ending expression, "why else would tractor rupar, white night for them" just doesn't pass the English language test, BTW.

Jaq said...

If gadfly is defending it, case closed, it's garbage.

Prior to 2000, VISA, the credit card company, was non-profit. People like botfly use the term “non-profit” as if it gives them higher moral standing, when all it means is they avoid paying taxes. And if you attempt to avoid paying taxes, botfly will call you immoral. Get a real job, indeed.

Mason G said...

"People like botfly use the term “non-profit” as if it gives them higher moral standing"

People like to use the term as it evokes the idea of unpaid volunteers "giving back" to the community, like maybe an animal rescue or a group who helps clean up trash in public areas on their days off.

How many people working at NOTUS are unpaid and donating their time for free? None (or damn close to it), I'd bet. The money to pay them and the operating expenses of the business is coming from somewhere (recently, one of those places was from US taxpayers, through USAID). If you look in the background, you'll probably find some rich benefactor helping cover the bills.

"Non-profit"? Yeah, sure. Whatever you say.

The thing that stuck out to me during Tapper's non-apology is that he really believes he is neutral in his coverage. CNN is deeply embedded in the DC bubble.

No he doesn't.

He knows if they go digging they will find Tapper was getting paid with US taxpayer money somehow. Everyone in the regime media and the greater DC area was feeding at that trough.

Tapper is just trying to pretend he was lied to rather than part of the conspiracy. He din do nuffin.

Does this blog have a tag for "Trump being an "asshole"? If it doesn't then it should because this is a prime example of it. What should matter here is the demonstrated record & credibility of the correspondent's previous writing. I don't think Trump would do that to Jake Tapper deserved though it might be. And that particular difference is what makes it bullying. That Trump has never heard of the guy's publication has about as much bearing on the question asked as is what the brand name of the laptop he wrote it on is tbh. (Oh and I voted for Trump all three times.)
