Once upon a long time ago the Democrats had leaders who almost instinctively understood how various policies and stratagems would play out with ordinary voters. With Democrats these days it seems clear that being embedded deeply inside their blue urban bubbles means that they have no clue. Consequently they lurch from one gambit to another without realizing that ordinary voters are approaching their fed up point (and a lot of them are well past it). The left, including Comey and his defenders, imagine that they have a monopoly on violence. They don’t, it’s that the right has a clear monopoly on self-restraint. Can they not imagine the US with an assassinated Donald Trump and an ex-Marine grunt Vance sworn into office? To ask the question is to answer it.
Mind you, it’s not that Republican leaders are that much better. With McConnell sidelined I’d say that they are better than the Democrats, but mostly because Democrats set such a low bar. The glaring exception is Donald Trump, who is almost uncanny in his grasp of what motivates ordinary people.
