"The man accused of setting fire to Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro’s residence Sunday indicated he was motivated by his views on the Israel-Gaza war and believed Shapiro needed to stop the killing of Palestinians..."
"... a newly unveiled search warrant says. Cody Balmer, 38, made the declarations in a 911 call after he left the property, in which he reported his own attack to dispatchers.... Balmer — who reportedly struggled with untreated mental illness — said the governor needed to stop having [Balmer's] friends killed and said 'our people have been put through too much by that monster,' according to the affidavit. He also said, 'All he has is a banquet hall to clean up.' Balmer allegedly identified himself by name and told the dispatcher he would “confess to everything that I had done.... Shapiro has expressed support for Israel, and last year pushed for the University of Pennsylvania to disband a pro-Palestinian encampment...."
We're told that Cody Balmer's brother Dan says Cody "was diagnosed with bipolar disorder" and has expressed the belief that his sister-in-law is a witch. And: "Dan Balmer also said Cody Balmer was politically independent and had urged his family to vote for Donald Trump in November."

You can’t throw a rock in any metro area without hitting someone who’s bi-polar.
Stop defining deviancy down.
The search warrrant says that. Does Balmer say that? Anyway what does "he needs to stop having his friends killed" mean? That sounds like looney talk, like "He was following me and killing all my friends with x-ray vision".
Combined with Balmer thinking his sister-in-law is a witch and his being diagnoised as "mentally ill" , i'm guessing he's - mentally ill. But i'm just spitballing here.
Again, lots of MSM interest in the perp's politics when the victim is a Democrat or Leftist. Not so much when its Trump or a Republican. Then its "Oh, he's just a nut" and nothing else.
The FBI just released the "manifesto" of the Tennessee school shooter and she was a hate filled leftist who wanted to kill Christians. Hear much about that?
"Dan Balmer also said Cody Balmer was politically independent and had urged his family to vote for Donald Trump in November."
The Palestinians have their plight, which they play against Israel's Holocaust card. It's an even match, if it's what you argue, which is what is done on campus.
Let there be plight.
I can't see that the man's politics play into this. When you burn down the house of the governor of Pennsylvania, in order to get... something... in Gaza, you're many steps removed from reality.
What's next? Burning down one of Millionaire Bernie's houses to get China tariffs reduced?
His family said he was crazy. Probably a little more pertient to his motivations than who he supported in 2024.
"Dan Balmer also said Cody Balmer was politically independent and had urged his family to vote for Donald Trump in November."
Please explain to us how you're any different than the typical leftist who comments here. You post the exact, same shit they do and then claim you're some sort of Republican.
LLR-democratcal lonejustice: "Dan Balmer also said Cody Balmer was politically independent and had urged his family to vote for Donald Trump in November."
LOL
Nice try lefty.

How many times are you going to repeat this Holocaust card idiocy? Once a day, once an hour? You clearly have a problem with Jews. Do you really think that Jews need a crutch to be successful? The only Holocaust that we are concerned about is the next one.
Multiple different news reports of aspects of his nuttiness and run ins with law.
So, the arsonist is an anti-Trumper, who entertains abortive ideation, and WaPoo is motivated to TeaBag their readers. See Letitia in the woke of her failed projection.
His residence is on another street right behind our first house. It was a friendly working class neighborhood, where I could walk my kids down to the local candy shop, where you could buy a full box of Swedish Fish and so on. The easing of financial requirements in the mortgage markets killed this in 2008, fire sales, section 8, etc. I was a curator with the State Museum of PA, and there were quite a number of our Collection on loan exhibited at the Mansion. I lead an Inventory team years ago, and this is going to be a nightmare that will take years to unwrangle.
"Dan Balmer also said Cody Balmer was politically independent and had urged his family to vote for Donald Trump in November."
Anyone gullible to believe they? Me either.

The crutch the Jews need is seeing antisemitism everywhere, whether it's there or not. It provides alienation, which prevents assimilation, which in turn protects the survival of the religion. Hence the religion's interest in it. Every Jewish Studies section of academic catalogs has for example a "Holocaust for children" section.
Among scholarly Jews, alienation is a creative resource and results in superb scholarship. Among the masses, it prevents assimilation along with actually a decline in scholarship.
Big Mike, it's plausible. Plenty of the Hamasniks were dumb enough to think voting for Biden meant supporting Israel's operations. This is because they were in an extremely tight, far-left information bubble.
Balmer allegedly identified himself by name and told the dispatcher he would “confess to everything that I had done....
I will at least give him this much credit - he is willing to take his punishment, unlike all the rest of the leftist "heroes" who believe that "civil disobedience" means never facing any consequences.
it was the signature experience of a generation, and is it a surprise that Mein Kampf is a best seller in the Moslem world,
with what Haj Amin and Rashid Ghailani did, in the 40s,
Trying to tie this to pro or anti Trump is futile, like trying to get another 20k miles on a retread with the belts showing. He's nuts, and was off his meds. The only real angle to explore is what motivated his political violence, but I'm guessing we're not going to be hearing much about that, because of that whole 'aligned interests' thingie. The voices in his head were listening to the voices from the heads on TV, is my guess.
Mein Kampf has an amusing section explaining why Hitler began to hate the Jews. Hitler would defeat the Jews in political argument in public squares in Vienna and the next day the Jews would not admit that they had been defeated but would argue the same things over again.
The modern humor is in that that's the state of every comment section.
I know he's a lefty because all the lefty and RINO commenters here have been furiously spinning and obfuscating his politics. If there was any unambiguous evidence he leaned right they wouldn't shut up about it.
Big Mike, it's plausible.
@Iconochasm, no it’s not. The asshole hated Jews. Trump has a daughter and three grandchildren are not just Jewish, but Orthodox Jews.
He also hated Biden because Biden wasn't leftwing enough for him.
Nutter on the left.
Do MSNBC, The View, the BBC, NPR etc.. create the going nutters sauce?
I think so.
Mike, I think you are underestimating the levels of stupidity, ignorance and myopia involved.
MSNBC(D) creates and builds unstable insane angry losers.
"You can’t throw a rock in any metro area without hitting someone who’s bi-polar."
True dat. Same with someone "being on the spectrum." I think there's mental illness, but "bi-polar" has become so vague as to be meaningless as a diagnosis. I know several people who have been diagnosed as bi-polar and they are all different in behavior, affect, and personality.
Pretty clear, though, that this guy is batshit crazy, which I think should be a clinical term.
serious question:
who was the last mass shooter/fire bomber/etc
that WASN'T on SSRIs ?
are we EVER going to face the fact that our current epidemic of insanity is CAUSED by insanity meds?
I find it odd that people who wail about occupation of Palestine see nothing wrong in occupying other spaces themselves to protest that supposed injustice.
As to the prevalence of medications correlating with antisocial actions like this, you have to recall that the meds are being taken for a reason, a pre-existin craziness, which might just be a larger factor in the crazy actions than the meds taken to treat them. Thank goodness so many people are on anti-crazy meds, this place would be really messed up if all the crazies weren't drugged.
Time to bring back the asylum-model for the criminally insane individuals who commit violent crime, who need nursing supervision and mandatory medical treatment and medication monitoring to maintain basic standards of human function.
I feel both sorry for this guy and his family, because their realistic options for needed sheltered living and mental health services are keenly limited by both longstanding limited of applicable resources, and long-term high cost for individual and family. News articles note "family was worried about his mental state, tried to get help" - except there's usually no meaningful institutional intervention until the crime is committed and physical damage done.
We operate on basis of near-total neglect of unstable often manic mentally-ill people. Too often, there's a real eventual probability of threats to safety of their families, the general public, and/or the hoi-poi politicians and celebrities often focus of their mania.
An unofficial cabal of pharmaceutical companies, the psychiatric industrial complex and some sharp-penciled conservative budget hawk state governors all came together in the late 70's and convinced Americans that it was totally possible to close all these types of institutions. The maladjusted criminal types could be dealt with, the cabal said, by supervised local group homes and lots and lots of meds. The former two got contracts and Rx sales, and the latter got to close psychiatric confinement facilities. (See T. Szasz, The Myth of Mental illness, 1961). That was the begining of America's mental illness and substance abuse epidemic. Then in the 80's the Dems & Libertardians joined the struggle to give us the homeless problem as well in the name of "civil liberties" for these people. And so here we are today. Pol Pot was right about universities.
