I'm a little disappointed to see the market back so quickly. I thought he'd let the markets twist in the wind a little longer so I could buy at a lower level. Once the relief over the pause fades and the reality of the China tariffs starts to bite, I'm sure we'll see another panic drop. I'll be waiting with cash.

Around 25 years ago I was saving Radio Japan features that were goofy or entertaining enough to my Windows 95 machine, and now I'm putting them on YouTube.

This was back when interviewers would seek out people to interview and let them talk. The interviewees' Japanese accent was sometimes part of the goofyness, and they were certainly from a wide selection of fields.

This interview on Plans for Bamboo was one of the first I saved. YouTube has helpfully added subtitles.

Modern Radio Japan has gone all deep state and does nothing entertaining at all. Everything is vetted.

The accompanying pic looks like a Doberman picture but is actually an antenna picture.

My portfolio (such a grand word for a paltry sum) dropped about 8% as of Monday. It has probably come back, but I'm probably better off not looking too often.

In hindsight, Trump urged Americans and investors to "be cool" on Wednesday morning, stating that "this is a great time to buy." This came ahead of a significant market rally following his announcement in the early afternoon.

On Monday, there was a rumor that was later denied, but it did reference the same 90-day extension. Bessent mentioned during an interview that this strategy had been discussed extensively over the weekend.

Consequently, there were early signs, and the market's reaction to Trump's message in the morning had in fact an unusually strong impact on market movements. Overall, it appears that a plan had been in place since the weekend.

While this information isn't classified as insider trading, it certainly raises ethical concerns. Nonetheless, whether people want to admit it or not, this situation highlights that going against Trump can be a risky bet for market participants.

I don't recall the financial geniuses on here or on X mention anything about the stock decline of 22. But then Biden was laying on the beach then, and lefties never said anything negative about sharp as a tack biden.
But being stupid, and short sided, leftist think this is about Greenland or France or Mexico, or the stock market. It is, and will be, about chyna. You know, the totalitarian regime that pumps money into harvard, yale, and a majority of congress, as well as owning huge tracts of land, near our home military bases. Again, that does't bother leftists. They hate trump, so nothing he does can be allowed to work, even when it does.
What a sad pathetic way to go thru life-revolving everything around trump. and NEVER coming up with any ideas to help America, other than the boilerplate bullshit that politicians vomit every 2 or 4 years.
The left and it's Islamic and feminist allies, don't want a discussion, they want silence and submission. The fact that Trump is winning kills them, and I for one enjoy laughing at their pain.

Haven't bird updated lately. We're still getting the Rosy-faced Lovebirds coming by our feeders. We've actually increased the number from two to four or five who regularly stop by. We also had a pair of Great Horned Owls nest in the common area next to our house. They had three owlets, two appear to have fledged and the remaining owlet is getting close to juvenile size.

"I don't recall the financial geniuses on here or on X mention anything about the stock decline of 22."

The 2022 stock market decline was driven by a combination of economic and geopolitical factors.

This weeks' sell off was caused by the trade policies of one particular individual. It's what most people call an "unforced error".

Looking forward to hearing from all the people who, just yesterday, were declaring the sky-high tariffs to be big brain 4D chess and we all just needed to trust the process. How rolling back those exact same tariffs -- while getting zero concessions in return -- is a big brain genius move and the perfect thing to do.

Are you an adult milk drinker? I am. Stopped at a local ice cream and more place for a milk shake. Two, actually, one for daughter, one for me Chocolate- large. They were excellent. We were bringing the twins back from a (another!) doctor's appointment. Just one year old, just had their MMR- and apparently it is well known that infants having high fevers is a well known thing after the MMR. They would probably have liked a milkshake, but they're still a little young to give them one in a fairly new car.

Mennonite run establishment. In the dairy section they had A2 milk. Locally sourced. I have read about A2 milk. So I picked up 2 qts, one for me, one for her and the son-in-law to try. It was a bit better tasting then the local dairy chain. I drank it without adding chocolate syrup. A bit more expensive Well, quite a bit. But I may continue buying it. Anyone else try it? I don't, BTW, have any digestion problems with milk. It comes highly recommended for people that do.

Jasmine Crockett: "I have to go around the country and educate people about what immigrants do for this country: We done picking cotton."
Gutfeld: "The face of that party.
It is kind of funny the way she views illegal immigrants, It's a few iterations from slavery."
Jeff Dye: "As obsessed with race as the left is, they seem to not know what racism is because they do it all the time.
'Mexicans are going to pick the cotton because we ain't doing it'
They constantly do these things.
'Black people don't have IDs'"

And who could forget this old chestnut: 'It's racist to say the pandemic started in Wuhan, don't you know the Chinese love eating bats?'

"I have to go around the country and educate people about what immigrants do for this country: We done picking cotton."

I'm constantly bemused by Jasmine Crockett. I think she confuses the dialects she has at hand. Should she use the 'ghetto' one, or the 'blackity-black' one? Which one is the 'done cotton-picking' one, and why is she using it? She was educated in high-dollar private schools I am told, coming from a well-off family, but there was apparently no drama department there, or history or agriculture departments either, so the money was at least partly wasted.

It does kind of raise the question, though: Does Jasmine really think there are still plantations where cotton is picked by hand? Or does she just think her voters do? Which one of those is worse? Does she really believe she's scoring heavy political points?

Mason G said...

I just came across something I was not aware of - a huge Federal Government Contractor called 'ICF'. They have fingers almost everywhere, under contracts for various services, including Climate Policy. It's freakin' huge, but is only identified as 'ICF'. Doing a little digging, I found that it started out as the 'Inner City Fund' back in the late 60s, and has only expanded from there, including as a contractor to HUD and USAID.

I can't wait for DOGE to get started on them. It smells like one of those back-door fascist orgs that pulls all the strings that the Federal Government can't pull themselves because of the direct oversight problem.

@planetgeo, I am going to steal “market Muroidea.” What a wonderful term!

@Jersey Fled, you remind me of an old joke. A young guy in a grocery store in Cambridge, Mass., wheels his full shopping cart up to the checkout line with a sign that that says “15 items or fewer.” The clerk looks at him, looks at his cart, and says “Either you’re from MIT and you can’t read, or you’re from Harvard and you can’t count.”

Peachy said...

Why the corrupt liar left are terrifed of DOGE:

"Social Security’s budget ballooned from $1.1 trillion in 2019 to $1.5 trillion in 2024—yet SSA’s own data shows 20 million mismarked records and $200B+ in improper payments.

The real threat isn’t reform—it’s letting bureaucrats burn cash on fraud while seniors get crumbs. DOGE’s job? Stop the looting.

If 73 million Americans depend on checks, why let D.C. waste billions instead of securing every dollar for those who earned it?"

“I expect that there will be some profit-taking today“

⬇️ 2% at the moment—profit taking ….

1. Top 5 US Trading Partners as a % Of total US Imports

China: $536.3 billion (16.5%)
Mexico: $454.8 billion (14.0%)
Canada: $436.6 billion (13.4%)
Japan: $148.1 billion (4.6%)
Germany: $146.6 billion (4.5%)

2. Weighted Average Import Tariff pre Trump 2nd Term - 3%
3. Weighted Average Import Tariff Post Liberation Day - 29.5%
4. Weighted Average Import Tariff Post 90 day pause - 24.28%

The actual weighted average tariff rate has gone down from about 25% pre Trump’s reversal to about 23% now.

Turns out that the ultra high tariffs on the Penguins aren’t going to make much difference overall because of their limited trade with the US. On the other hand tariffs on China are worse and the trade weighted rate is still high - and China are never going to back down as it would mean the end of the CCP.

So expect to see more drama involving inflation up, yields up, stock market down once the penny drops and the real impacts start being felt.

Certainly a lot of "Hope" in the markets at the moment.

Kakistocracy said...

I believe people need to comprehend that 125% stacked tariffs will become extremely challenging for almost every industry. China has not been primarily focused on cheap labor for a long time now; instead, it has been centered around specialized machinery. When we break down a BOM, it becomes evident that nearly everything is sourced from China! Therefore, it’s too early and optimistic for markets to recover to new highs or if we will inevitably enter a recession.

Johnny Rotten is pro-Israel

Public Image Limited played in Tel Aviv in 2010. Would he play Israel again?

“I played to real human beings, not a bunch of politicians. At that time, there were a lot of Arab nationals and they get the same rights as a Jew. The country is more mixed than you’re led to believe, it’s not just ‘Jews only’, far from it. There were lots of Muslims in the audience when I played there. That was special because no Muslim nation has invited me, not ever.”

But can he see why people object to it?

“Unacceptable that you would find it unacceptable because you’re working on what you’ve been told rather than what you found out for yourself. The education system turns people indoctrinated rather than educated and they all seem to be flowing this one poisonous way that does not accept freedom of differences of thought. If you want diversity, accept diverse opinions, then talk about what is right or wrong.”

Boom. And welcome to the USA, Mr. Rotten, you magnificent bastard.
