President Donald Trump gleefully recounted how much money his billionaire pals made on the stock market after he suddenly suspended most of his worldwide tariffs.
Stocks zoomed Wednesday after Trump pulled the plug on the tariffs.
“THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!!!” he urged on Truth Social shortly after the market opened and before he suspended the levies for 90 days just four hours later.
Stocks jumped more than 7 percent Wednesday within minutes of his announcement suspending the tariff for 90 days. The market ultimately closed more than 9 percent higher.
At the White House Oval Office that day, Trump pointed to a pair of billionaire visitors.
“He made $2.5 million, and he made $900 million! That’s not bad!” Trump said, pointing to financial investor Charles Schwab and then NASCAR team owner Roger Penske. The men were part of a visiting guest contingent of mostly racing notables.
Schwab is estimated to be worth $12.9 billion and Penske $5.6 billion.
Bloomberg reported that Wednesday was the “best day ever” for billionaires as the world’s wealthiest people raked in $304 billion as the markets rocketed back up.
The Wednesday windfalls triggered accusations of market manipulation and even insider trading, as Trump critics accused the president of tipping off his well-heeled friends to buy, knowing that a suspension of the tariffs on his order would boost stock prices.
There can be no manipulation because there is no one to prosecute it, they are all owned by trump Bondi is definitely a crook and a sycophant/ Hey looks like MJT got heres. Trumpers just love this ,they idolize geting punked while their idols rake in the coin!!!beautiful

I know that many Trump supporters here are happy that they lost money in the recent stock market crash, because of Trump's tariffs. I am not happy. I bought gold when it was $300 an ounce. I hope you did too.

Glenn Greenwald says Murray did very poorly. I don’t think that’s so. He made 3 unfair arguments, and there was well deserved push back. But setting that aside, it was an excellent discussion.

The stock market was greatly overvalued and everybody knew it. No matter the trigger, a correction was inevitable.

The market is still overvalued. If you can't handle downturns, you should get out.

Yes, I think Murray did just fine. The episode was a great example of how intra-right disagreements can be handled by respectful discussions, rather than trying to put the other guy aposunagogos.

Poor pathetic TBH.

Our competing "Special Service Announcements were put to the political test just a few months back...you know, after your New Soviet Democratical bosses rigged your third straight presidential nominee "contest" and then shoved it down your all too willing throat.

How'd that turn out for ya?

If you cannot comprehend what Original Mike is saying at 7:23, you are a fool. The market was going to correct whether we had tariff announcements or not.

Inflated and stolen dollars were massively pumped into the market during the Biden Regime. Everyone in the financial business knows it.

LLR-democratical lonejustice: "I am not happy."

You have been miserable since your lefty teammates failed in their 10 straight years of corrupted marxist lawfare to imprison and financially destroy their top political opponent and his family, failed to assassinate him twice, and then he defeated your gal kamala in an election your team was unable to rig at scale due to a lack of dem allied ChiCom virus-driven last minute improper and unconstitutional change of key election rules.

And then Trump, as President, shuts the border down and cuts off the spigot of your preferred completely open borders policies designed to deliver permanent blue majorities in all swing states and beyond...and then Trump takes on the New Soviet Democratical allies in Beijing with a 30 year overdue trade engagement.

Yes lonejustice, we full well understand why you are so deeply unhappy.

@ NorthOfTheOneOhOne:
Murray was a bit snooty - essentially asserting if Smith hadn’t visited battlefields, his opinion wasn’t valid, suggesting that mentioning Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Perle was antisemitic, saying that Rogan should interview more experts. Aside from that he was excellent. Dave Smith was also excellent.

Iman said...

The thing with Democrats - and it’s hard NOT to notice this - is that the solutions they come up with to fix them are just as insane as the problems they’ve created.

Everyone asks why the Great Depression happened. In my opinion, I was told about the shoeshine boys who were sure they knew the hot stocks. Everyone rode the bubble with phony stocks. I think when the market goes up forever (3 years) there is too much inertia including fed action and things can’t correct until they break.

I am happy to see the bubble broken. It encourages me to see that it only drops 10 to 15 pct and finds a floor. There is still good value. For example my Berkshire B shares are up 16pct year to date.

I think people who refuse to be bold and demand a market that returns plus 10pct are just waiting around for the next bubble. Everyone wants the unsustainable 30 pct annual with no risk.

And China is 60pct mouth and 40pct larceny.

Mason G said...

"Everyone wants the unsustainable 30 pct annual with no risk."

If the government would stop inflating away the value of the dollar...

Mason G said...

And to expand on my previous comment... If the 1970 version of Mason could have put aside a quarter in order to buy a loaf of bread after the 2025 version of Mason had retired, nobody would be chasing a 30 pct annual return. Unfortunately, the 2025 version of Mason requires ten quarters to purchase a comparable loaf of bread, not just one. So...

Eva Marie said...

Let me add this about Douglas Murray, whom I greatly admire. If you want to persuade people to your point of view - it’s a given you are speaking to people who don’t know much about a topic and want to learn more so they can form/solidify/change their opinion. In that case it’s tactically a bad idea to say from the onset that people who aren’t experts (like Dave Smith) aren’t qualified to voice their opinion. You immediately lose your audience. The comments on the Rogan site are uniformly anti Murray even though he made a lot of excellent points.

Nothing gets an American's goat like an upper-crust English accent when it's deployed in 'supercilious-snotty' mode, and there's a reason for that.

CBS News reported on the effect of the new high tariff war with China, citing the consequence of womens' bags and handbags made almost entirely in China and Cambodia. A small business owner said that American cut-and-sew operations are out of business.

There is one bag-maker left in Van Wert, Ohio. KAM Manufacturing has been operating profitably since 1984, when the company made Vera Bradley's original luxury cotton bag product lines. Vera Bradley products are now made in Cambodia (subject to high tariffs), but bag importers might have a source to get products here.

If I can find this online, it is strange that those in need cannot. Of course, Vera Bradley needs only to drive the short distance from Fort Wayne to talk to KAM.

On the same Real Time episode last night, Maher did a pretty good two-hander with Steve Bannon. But neither one could resist reacting to every single thing. For instance, Maher was about to say something pretty significant: that we shouldn't put politicians in prison. But Bannon didn't like something Maher said in the preamble of his statement, and cut him off. Then they went down rabbit holes of mutual recrimination. Maher never did get to say what he wanted to say about not putting politicians in prison.

I think if you strongly support Israel, you're going to think Murray did well.

It's not really about the ostensible argument — whether non-experts are talking too much — but about the prevalence of the pro-Palestinian argument in social media and the desire for a louder, stronger defense of Israel.

trump hired nitwits for all the different agencies and it sure shows to the world what a dumb organization 49% of voting population thought was a great idea as the rest of country stayed home. 'I heard this morning... there’s a school system that’s gonna start making sure that first graders, or even pre-K, have A1 teaching every year starting that far down in the grades,' the former WWE first lady said.
She added: 'And that’s a wonderful thing. Kids are sponges. They just absorb everything. Wasn’t all that long ago that it was, "We’re gonna have internet in our schools. Woo!"
Now, OK, let’s see A1 and how can that be helpful? How can it be helpful in one-on-one instruction? How can it be helpful in absorbing more information for those fast learners? It can be more one-on-one directed. Those are the kinds of things and innovations that I wanna see continue to develop.'
A1 Sauce quickly jumped on the viral moment, issuing a post on Friday that read: 'You heard her. Every school should have access to A.1.'
Education secretary Linda McMahon, 76, referred to AI as 'A1' - like the popular steak sauce
Trump education secretary embarrassingly out of touch on artificial intelligence
A third anonymous X user said: 'An accident is saying it once. You don't know what you're talking about if saying repeatedly.'
A fourth added: 'She will do great closing the department of education.' This administration seems like it searched for the dumbest people it could find and promoted them.
