I did not watch the mens college basketball championship Monday night. To folks that watched the whole game, did the better team win? Thanks.

I have conversations with my work colleagues. Very intelligent people. I am amazed at how they don't seem to really understand how our constitution works or is intended to work. They keep looking for some check on presidential power. I keep telling them that the first check is "get your person or a person you trust or can live with, elected." They keep wanting the president to not have power over the people in the administration. They keep decrying how much discretionary power the president has. I keep telling them that congress is to blame for giving the president so much discretionary power, and if we don't want the president to have so much power then vote for congress people who will rescind it. But in any case, how can the president not have power over the people who derive their authority and power from the presidency itself?

All that seems too messy to my friends. They want a short cut - someone who can come in and fix it. A really smart person. Like some judge or something. Or someone from Harvard.

It does seem in the case if Trump the expectation is he needs to ask permission to use his authority. There’s some ‘reporter’ at WSJ that has a video answering questions from readers, like ‘It’s already Tuesday and we STILL haven’t stopped everything Trump did last Thursday???’ ‘Good question..’ says the ‘reporter’…

…also ‘Why aren’t Congressional Republicans doing something to stop him?!!?? Aren’t they nervous about midterms?’ ‘Good question…’ says reporter…

Alligator in the water, if you turn the photo upside down. Very interesting photo either way.

did the better team win? In short, yes. It could've gone either way, but if Florida and Houston played 10 times, I suspect Florida would win eight of those games.

They were pretty evenly matched. The most tenacious team won. Houston could have won but they choked in the last few seconds due to Florida’s smothering persistent defense. Florida was forged in the furnace of competition that is the SEC.

Quayle,
Were they outraged by Pedo Pete signing EOs like they were headshots?

Love Elon calling Peter Navarro a moron. Elon gets it -- he's had enough. Shame they are all falling out so soon. Entirely predictable -- but the speed of it!

Bloomberg reported yesterday that the White House is considering export tax credits for US companies adversely affected by retaliatory tariffs, which functionally is the same as the export subsidy Navarro complains about. Such a winning combination of economic, political and security policy incoherence. 🤡

I see the kak has just ended his last post by marking his spot @9:01PM.

BTW… what was the closing number for today’s Dau Moans Intestinal Average?

That was a great game last night. Two tough teams and I was surprised that Florida won given that Clayton only scored 11 points, after recent hot shooting/man in charge performances. But he scored when it counted most and a number guys stepped up big-time.

Just an FYI to everyone; you're going to hear a lot of crap in the next couple of months about the military parade Trump is planning for June 14. June 14 is Flag Day as well as the date that the US Army was founded in 1775. It is also Trump's birthday

As far as I have heard it will be an Army parade, I have not heard that the Navy, USMC, USAF or USCG will be parading. What I have heard, though, is CNN (Dana Bash, Jake Tapper, Anderson Cooper, et al) say repeatedly that Trump is putting this parade on for his birthday. No direct quotes from him in that regard and no acknowledgment that the parade might just have something to do with the 250th anniversary of the US Army's founding.

@NOTOOO: Maybe in the grander scheme of things this isn’t so important but I am so happy Trump will be President for our 250th. Can you imagine the junk propaganda we would be in for if the Dems were in power?

I didn't know there are directions on a shampoo bottle.
I hope I've been doing it right.

The Dems would have completely ignored it. Just like they completely ignored the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Headline in my news feed this morning: Trump administration rescinds $500,000 EPA grant to fund a community project helping 5 Southwest Virginia communities

Sounds heartless, until you read a few paragraphs into the article:

"The grant, part of the Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem Solving Program, was to be a major source of the funding for a yearslong project called Community Strong, but the effort will continue, and the group will look for other funding sources, Kelly said.

Through Community Strong, Appalachian Voices is working with the partner localities to identify their strengths, as well as the barriers that could be holding them back. The program is designed to help them plan for the future and to find funding for needed projects. Community meetings are also part of the process.

The initiative has “built momentum and hope in rural coal communities that have often felt left behind or ignored despite all the sacrifices they’ve made over decades of helping power America,” according to an email from Appalachian Voices. “The termination of this grant threatens that momentum. Money from the grant was slated to help develop important projects identified as community priorities in each town.”

The one project that has received funding is the renovation of a train depot to be used as an emergency hub. The goals seem vague, and sound a bit like makework projects. The EPA "Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem Solving Program" has been around for a while, and most recently received block grant funding through the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022. Its goal: "Environmental justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.

EPA has this goal for all communities and persons across this nation. It will be achieved when everyone enjoys:

-the same degree of protection from environmental and health hazards, and
-equal access to the decision-making process to have a healthy environment in which to live, learn, and work."

Shampoo bottles are OK but for if you like like long showers I would suggest "War and Peace" by Tolstoy. Penguin Random House has the waterproof edition. Be sure to use the Althouse link if ordering through Amazon.

JSM: ignoring it would have been better than what I had been envisioning- lots of hate filled rhetoric. Either way, one more reason to be thankful Trump is our President.
