Who cares if USAID was being used to fund, to the tune of hundreds of millions, "ministries" whose only reason for being seemed to be to fly irregular migrants into the US and set them up with homes, benefits, set them loose on our emergency rooms for medical care, etc, etc. These kinds of things must be ignored and allowed to continue indefinitely because USAID still served some part of its original purpose!; 3/4/25, 7:28 PM

"People who are listed as over 100 years old in the Social Security system are "not necessarily receiving benefits," the new head of the agency said Wednesday, contradicting claims that tens of millions of dead people over that age are receiving checks.

Instead, those individuals "are people in our records with a Social Security number who do not have a date of death associated with their record," said Lee Dudek, the new acting Social Security Administration commissioner who was placed in the role by President Trump, in the Feb. 19 statement.

The clarification comes after Mr. Trump and billionaire adviser Elon Musk claimed on social media and in press briefings that people who are 100, 200 and even 300 years old are improperly and routinely getting benefits.

Admittedly, I didn't watch the speech nor the rebuttal, but considering she was born in 1976, I doubt she remembers anything about Ronald Reagan other than what's been told to her.

Though I do find it interesting Democrats think their way back into power is by acting like .... conservatives. Not just her comment but the list of bullet points coming out of Virginia over the weekend.

And why won't her star rise? The Democrats are out of ideas, out of power and out of any strategy to combat what's going on now.

Drout said...: The b.s. line that Slotkin was pushing about not acting "recklessly" (when she really meant "don't do anything at all") probably would have convinced some of the audience back in 2020, but that ship has sailed. The actions of the Biden administration were regularly flat-out crazy and, even more importantly, Trump has learned to moderate his tone and drop the petty self-pity that sometimes would creep to his ad libs. Now his ad libs are all looking forward and cheerleading the future rather than self-justifying. (This is somewhat ironic, since after the attempts to jail, bankrupt, and murder him--not to mention all the voting fraud and the phony "insurrection--Trump would have many legitimate reasons to feel self-pity).
My wife and I have had innumerable arguments about Trump's "tone" but tonight she pre-empted them all by saying "NOW he's completely 'Presidential'."

Everything he does is either a pep-rally or a Jerry Springer tier in-your-face confrontation. And the Left plays along hoping for over reach or a gaffe on DJT's part. The late talk show host Rush Limbaugh used to call what these addresses have become "State of the Union Shows" complete with shout-outs, special guests, and stage props.
