Two things. Youngbloods prove it was an error to anger Johnny Carson. 1969 – If you tuned into The Tonight Show to see the Youngbloods (“Get Together”), you’d be disappointed. Johnny Carson says, “They complained about the set, the lighting, the sound, the show – everything. So we wiped their noses, told them they’d been in show business a day and a half, and sent them home.”
One of my all time favorites. JCY's side of the Carson deal was that he told them he wanted to play a song off his new album and they agreed and then at the last minute, Carson's producer told him it had to be Get Together so he refused to go on. The Youngbloods were good, but I knew him from his solo work first, the albums Song for Juli and Lightshine especially.
When I was either a freshman or a sophomore in high school, I sat in on a Student Council meeting (as a reporter for the school paper) where they were discussing what band to hire for a concert later that year. The votes went to the Youngbloods on the strength of that song. One of the not chosen (who we had no idea of them prior): The Steve Miller Band
Awww……such a wonderful & generous performer he was. Saw/heard the Youngbloods circa 68/69 as a teen in Raleigh. My much better half & I saw/heard Jesse twice at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz in the late 80s/early 90s, once with his son as a duo.

#2 - “…Listen…” from their hit could well be the inspirado for Spinal Tap’s "(Listen To The) Flower People"
Nice try Jesse. RIP
“Some may come and some may go.”
—— Carnac the Magnificent
Definitely an iconic song of the times. RIP.
Nice song. Looks like they had a long career - but this was their one big hit.

Your inside voices, screelin' and a squawkin'.
Things that cannot be.

It's a Grey Day
