Good. Macron is a war mongering, green energy loser. He's going in to beg. Hopefully Trump does the same to Keir Starmer later this week. Totalitarian liberal loser.

It was infuriating to learn the the $100 billion Europe put of for Ukraine was a guaranteed loan, and the $350 billion Americans put up was a "gift".

Not another dollar or another American life for these assholes.

I don't have an opinion about this. Like Chou En-Lai said when asked if the French Revolution was a good thing or a bad thing -- it's too soon to tell.

Before we rejoice or grouse about this, maybe we should know how many times the arrival of a foreign leader at the carport was recorded by the media and how many times the president was present to meet the foreign leader. This may just be more fake news.

They have nuked their own economies and emptied their armories over a stupid war that Biden wanted, and now are facing the fact that it has become a lost cause, so yes, they do care. Every day that this war continues without a settlement is a day that Russia comes closer to Kiev. If Macron gets his wish to continue the war, Ukraine will probably lose Odessa. Right now European leaders are in denial about this, but there is nothing they can really do about it. Nobody in Europe wants to die over who rules over some ethnic Russians in Ukraine who had lived under Russian rule for centuries prior to the chaotic fall of the USSR.

I loved the triumphant declaration and then hushed retraction of Macron and Keir's boast of deploying 30,000 UK and French troops in Ukraine, as if they could get even half that number (incidentally, half that number would literally be most of the entire active deployable UK Army).

The EU is so hollowed out that many of its native populations (except Poland) wouldn't lift a finger to save what's left, and the people they've imported would sooner start a civil war for what remains.

When has there ever been a good source of non-partisan information? What is evident now, is that the public skepticism is functioning at a higher level, at a time when information is more easily accessed by greater numbers of people. Citizen journalism and fact-checking: It's a good thing! As long as the online censors that seek to control the discourse are kept at bay.

P-Inga: "Macron ran circles around Trump in the meeting in the Oval Office when answering reporters questions. "

LOL

No such thing happened, as anyone could see. Trump made a few things clear (this is for P-Inga due to her inability to comprehend anything more complicated than cutting up an apple pie):
1) The europeans have already cut deals that guarantees EU cash and services to Ukraine are backed up by both resouces as well as the $300B in frozen russki assets

2) Trump is demanding that the US be given the same securitization of support provided to Ukraine (isn't it funny how all the Althouse lefties decry Trump demanding payback but said nothing at all about the fact that payback is precisely what the europeans have already secured?)

3) Macron is full of BS, in a smooth politician way, when he says the EU/NATO has provided 60% of the funding to Ukraine! LOL It will be hilarious to see what they exclude in their "calculations" to come up with that number! Particularly when you consider the europeans do the same thing when they "calculate" NATO funding participation (spoiler: the US provides more than 70% of all funding, including operations support, etc). That's going to be a hilarious Trump and staff discussion with the euro-weenies when they get back behind closed doors.

Drago said...

MadisonMan: "Inga, were you actually watching? Why? Trump is living in your head rent-free."

P-Inga literally has no idea what happened this morning, what it means for a peace deal, or what it means on a financial basis for the US.

Not to worry, just like everything else over the last 10 years, P-Inga will soon be deleting hundreds more her moronic posts when reality is shoved down her throat.

Again.

And Again.

""Trump's making adversaries out of friends, losing any "leadership" the US traditionally has had, as Canada, Europe and much of the rest of the world"

Trump wanted Europe to spend more on defense on not rely on us. He said this years ago and they laughed at him and bought gas from Putin.

Now, they have decided that America isn't reliable so they must become independent and spend more on defense.

Read that claim carefully: for decades they spent less than 2% and we cajoled them. But WE'RE UNRELIABLE?

all we wanted was a pepsi, but Germany wouldn't give it to us?

We're unreliable?

What it says is Germany wants to be America's enemy. They are using Russia as their excuse. Because they could have said "Trump has convinced us to spend more" and America would be friendlier...but they choose their rationale as America is UNRELIABLE.

That's a choice. They funded the Russian war machine, but we're UNRELIABLE.

It's almost as if people don't know that Ukraine is a foreign country, but think that US citizens owe their government loyalty, and think that it is treasonous to not support getting involved in a war that is none of our business just because the last president did a lot of personal business there, and provoked a war that didn't need to happen there.

We are not Ukrainians, we are free citizens of a democracy, and as such, we have a choice in whether we support a policy of endless wars all over the world, or oppose it. It is not treasonous to oppose this policy of endless war, nor is it treason to oppose Joe Biden's foreign policy choices. That's what democracy means, it means we not only get to choose, but it means that we have a responsibility to think for ourselves.

Ukrainians claim that this war is about their freedom to choose their own foreign policy, which in this case means that they should be free to join a military bloc whose whole reason for being is hostility to Ukraine's next door neighbor. Well, we have freedom to choose too. Sorry Macron.

Yancey Ward said...

What the Biden Administration did to Ukraine is unforgiveable. They made the Ukrainians believe that they could win the war without NATO troops and air support and probably had them convinced that such troops and air support would be available if things did not go their way on their own.

Ukraine was never going to win this war without outside troops with NATO air support. Had the Ukrainians been told right from the start that NATO forces would never come to their defense and that the weapons would eventually dry up because the West no longer has the capacity to produce weapons used in high intensity battles, the Ukrainians would have chosen a path that did not leave their country a smoking ruin. Even a guerilla form of resistance after a quick capitulation would have been preferable to the Ukrainians than what is going to happen when they lose anyway and have to live in the rubble with a million casualties.
