RIP, Mr. Baseball. He got up, got up, and got outta here.
There’s something about listening to a baseball game on radio. Even the worst game can be made interesting. Living in Nebraska, I didn’t listen to the Brewers. As a kid, I would listen to Harry Carey and the Cardinals. You can drive your car or be fishing and listen to a game.
The two guys I like the most now are the Giants’ TV guys. So interesting.
Baseball is the American game and I don’t care what the NFL says.
He missed the tag!
Back when I had the Extra Innings package, I'd catch the Brewers' games just to hear Ueck. Sync up the radio feed with the television broadcast. It was perfect.
Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo doing Red Sox games, Ueck and the Brewers capped off by Vin Scully and the Dodgers.
Sadly, I don't even recognize the game anymore.
RIP to Mr. Baseball, as well as RemDawg and Vinny.

It's great if they've got a good Color Man. Baseball is an inherently slow paced game even without crap like sausage races, you need someone to fill in the gaps.

If your skies are clear, you may see Venus (and Saturn close by but not as bright) in the west, Jupiter higher up, and Mars coming along to the east.
If you see two bright stars near Mars, those are Castrol and Polyps.

Ukraine attacked the energy infrastructure of another if its NATO allies today. This time the Turkstream natural gas pipeline. The destruction of Germany's gas pipeline, Nordstream, has left Germany in a deep recession that is bordering on a depression. They had negative growth for 2024. This is after Ukraine just cut off 5% of Europe's NG at the beginning of the year. Basically Europe is going to become dependent on liquified natural gas, LNG, which is twice the money. Nobody is going to pipe cheap gas there anymore, it's too risky. Pipelines are sitting ducks. Europe is screwed. Their only hope was to win the war against Russia, and then, like a piñata, when Russia collapses, the riches will come tumbling out, for Europe to loot. Oil, NG, Diamonds, Platinum, Lithium, Maize, Wheat, etc, etc, all for sale to Europe on Europe's terms once they got rid of Putin. It was a bold strategy, let's see how it works out for them.
BTW, since the advent of LNG, pipelines are a favor to the buyers. They limit the options of the sellers of NG in return for stable markets. Well, the "stable market" part of that deal has gone out the window. It's not the seller's problem that LNG costs twice what pipeline gas costs.
Trade with the enemy isn't unusual but it has to benefit both sides. Pipelines are good for it because there's no transportation risk anybody has to bear.
...those are Castrol and Polyps.

SEC Lawsuit: Elon Musk’s Failure to Disclose Twitter Stake Let Him Buy at ‘Artificially Low Prices’
Wait. I thought he bought Twitter at an inflated, uneconomic price. That's what we've been told by the lefties here.
I have pointed out several times before that Germany is in a deep recession primarily because they shut down all their nuclear power plants, and even blew up some of the cooling towers to make sure that if the people decided to elect a different party, they wouldn't be able to turn them back on again without spending a lot of time and money to do it. Why do some people pretend that Germany's economic problems are not mostly self-inflicted?
And why exactly is Ukraine somehow morally obligated to allow Russia to make billions in hard currency shipping gas or oil through Ukrainian territory, money that finances the weapons and ammunition they use to destroy Ukrainian infrastructure and slaughter Ukrainian civilians? Reading Jaq's first comment, a casual reader might think that they had attacked a pipeline in Turkey, not a pumping station in Russia, a country that is at war with them.
SnakeEyes.
For no apparent reason, Elon has been pretending to be some kind of hot-shit gamer. Like, one of the best in the world. Why? Who knows? He's nuts. But gamers aren't like governments, they don't stop asking the question until they get a good answer.
Trump is going to have to distance himself from Musk. And Vivek, with the "white people are stupid and lazy" schtick. I think RFK jr is going to work out just fine. In fact, I'm thinking he will end up being just RFK.
Q - Is there anyone else on Earth named Elon? I'm sure the world has plenty of Viveks.
Biden is going to issue a preemptive pardon for all illegals.

"Even the worst game can be made interesting."
You know, I'm going to give you this one. Experiencing a baseball game by radio is almost certainly preferable to being required to experience one in person. It might be different if they had cheerleaders.
Nice link, but you should learn how to do it like this;
New York is in good hands!
Maybe a cockney rhyming slang solution;
fart -> raspberry tart -> raspberry
Saxon -> Stonewall Jackson -> Stonewall
Hmmm. That doesn't really seem like progress. Theory has its limitations.
My apologies if this this has already been posted on this blog:
Q: Why can’t Biden visit the site of the California fires?
A: The cadaver dogs go crazy when they see Biden.
Good stuff, Eva Marie!
Good call by Dave Begley. The Giants baseball announcers are 2 former Giants players Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper. Kuiper, the play-by-play guy is a native of Racine Wisconsin, where he grew up on a family farm. He is quite beloved in the Bay Area, but always brags about his Wisconsin roots. He is very smooth, easy to listen to, self deprecating, great mid-west sense of humor.
I mentioned that same thing as a comment on another blog. He was forced to buy it after making an offer that was too generous...
They want to law-fair Musk too.
For some reason, CNN thinks it can rearrange the deck chairs, and they will get their viewship back, when all they really need to do, is give Scott Jennings a prime time spot and let him go...

As the rest of us NORMALS wonder what the hell is Joe Biden even talking about during his last hateful speech to the Nation, the Network idiots were slobbering over it, saying it was a " speech for the history books!!" It's good to know that Progressives in the news haven't learned a single thing. And now they are going to wonder why they are out of their million dollar jobs. Can't wait until they all lose everything. They lied to us for years, and they still think they are relevant.
And isn't it time to put PBS out of it's misery?? WHY are they tax.payer sponsored when they hate the taxpayers??

Interesting fact about Reagan, now mostly forgotten:
"Ronald Reagan worked as a radio broadcaster for Chicago Cubs baseball games for WHO radio in Des Moines, Iowa in the 1930s. He didn't attend the actual games but would recreate them from telegraph ticker tape reports that described the basic game action. This was a common practice at the time for broadcasters covering away games."
Reagan would use these minimal ticker tape descriptions to create vivid play-by-play broadcasts, adding color commentary and sound effects to make listeners feel like they were at the game. He would hit a wooden block with a pencil to simulate the sound of a bat hitting the ball. If the ticker tape went dead, he would improvise by having players foul off pitches until service was restored."
(per Perplexity)
Got wordle on 2nd try again!!
Hey, I like the guy, but he failed to file Form 13D, once he reached 5% ownership, within 10 days as required by law. It's very black and white----like filing your 1040 in the middle of May without having bothered to ask for an extension. His financial advisors screwed up, and the record shows it. Other actions against Musk may be lawfairish, but this is pretty legit.
Is it me or does Biden leaving feel like the longest goodbye? Past Presidents seemed to keep a low profile before leaving, especially after getting their asses kicked by an opponent. And Biden did get his ass kicked by proxy with Kamala.
John Cochrane’s Unsolicited Advice for the new administration. It’s a great piece but few will pay attention…
Geez, I've done that maybe twice, out of a bazillion. You're good.
Late filing with SEC is normally met with a penalty, usually thousands of dollars. A lawsuit where SEC demands a jury trial with a remedy of potential billions against the arch enemy of Washington is harassment and abuse of power. The headline will be the new administration quashing the nonsense and the median making it look like favoritism…
A2: The looters would think he's dead and take his wedding ring and watch.
A3: The true authorities won't allow useless onlookers into disaster areas.
A4: White men cannot enter California period, as the DEI quotas need more black and brown lesbians and transgendered persons.
His handlers are trying to put lipstick on a pig. They want to maximize the impression of 'support' and 'achievements' before he's gone. They are too proud to admit failure.
I just have a great first word!!
Good one!
The pitiful petty past presidents are refusing to go to the traditional Inaugural luncheon. I can't despise any of them more than I do already. I only hope they get the justice they so deserve. It would definitely Make America Great Again if that actually happens.

The DOGE is a great initiative, and I look forward to seeing what they do when faced with the regulatory morass.
I do not...
I approve of everyone skip the lunch all together and get to work. Time's a wastin'
An interesting read and I’ve passed the link along to family and friends. Thanks for posting!
Gee, if only somebody had warned the Krauts 8 years ago that depending on energy supplies from your historic enemy was a bad idea ...
There have been two attacks on NATO countries in this war that both would have invoked Article 5 in normal circumstances. Both by Ukraine. I don't care what justifications Ukraine has for cutting off Germany's economy from cheap gas, and now all of Europe. This is a fight between Ukraine and Russia. Ukraine has no real right to dictate to Europe, and yet it does. The people of Europe are getting sick of it, and and some point gaming the elections to keep their anger from rising to the top is no longer going to work. How long will Romania continue with a president, whose term has expired, in office, because the people voted for somebody who wanted to be neutral towards Russia so the election had to be annulled. "It's for democracy!" We have hear that lie way too many times.
And even that situation was the result of lawfare-lite. IIRC Twitter took him to court to force him to adhere to the deal even after it became clear that the information they provided during negotiations about usage was bogus.
The pumping station explicitly supplies gas to the Turkish pipeline.
"depending on energy supplies from your historic enemy was a bad idea."
Russia is not Germany's historic enemy. It is the historic enemy of the British Empire, and now its inheritor, the American Empire. Russia is no threat to Germany, though Germany attacked Russia within living memory. Russia is a potential ally of China, and we want to slight the Chinese economy, and if we can strip China of allies, it will become easy prey.
Invasions flow from population to resources. Germany has nothing that Russia wants, Europe has nothing that Russia needs, but Russia is full of resources that Germany needs, that Europe needs. France, Sweden, Germany, they have all invaded Russia. Russia executed one counteroffensive into Europe after being invaded and seeing 27 million people killed. Any honest reading of history and the strategic situation says Russia just wants to be left alone, and we refuse to do it, and Germany's manufacturing + Russia's resources would have created an economic competitor that the US could not allow to exist.

Terrorism?
Welcome to the world of Realpolitik
It begins. The smug, ugly, corrupt Mayorkas is trying to throw Biden under the bus, for the actions HE was taking. Too bad he didn't open his ugly big mouth 3 years ago, and let the invasion fester. Prison time is needed for these animals.

@WesternLensman
🚨NEW: Mayorkas implies that the Biden admin wouldn’t let him secure the border:
"People have different views on what the correct policies should be, what the correct operational measures should be. Those disagreements, those different views are voiced, decisions are made and then everyone marches in unity together."
"We're one team, and it's one effort. But this is not a revolutionary concept, that there are disparate views when one has many people, involved in the decision making process."
The ‘every man for himself’ aftermath of the disastrous Biden regime has begun.

If Joe Biden or whoever was running the show wouldn’t allow Mayorkas to do his job he should have blown the whistle three years ago. He’s just as complicit as the rest of the administration in the destruction of our southern border.

That hurts.
Jaq just can't stop repeating lies that I've already refuted before. He claims that "Russia just wants to be left alone" and has never invaded Europe except in one "counteroffensive . . . after being invaded" (he means 1944). He seems to have forgotten that in that same century Russia invaded newly independent Finland, all three Baltics, Poland, and Ukraine in 1918-20, though all but the last managed to preserve their independence by fighting, that Russia invaded Poland again in 1939, allying with Hitler to do so - a very strange omission when he's talking about Germany and Russia as natural allies! - retook the Baltics around the same time, and tried to retake Finland. Then there's the invasion of Hungary in 1956, Czechoslovakia in 1968, Georgia in 2008, and a dozen other violent interventions. The idea that Russia is no threat to its neighbors is so idiotic as to be near-insane. How did Russia become the largest country in the world, with 100+ subject nations within its borders? Not by peaceful means. Some of its conquests were nauseatingly brutal: don't read about the Circassian (Cherkassian) genocide of the 19th century unless you have a very strong stomach.
In any case, Russian propaganda makes it quite clear that they are right now a threat to most of Europe. Solovyov and others openly talk about obliterating the UK with nuclear bombs, invading Poland, the Baltics, Finland, and yes Germany, and also Alaska. And Russia is currently committing acts of war against most of these countries, cutting undersea cables, assassinating people, jamming GPS so airliners have to be rerouted, blowing up arms factories, and more. Why does 'Jaq' slavishly parrot Putinite propaganda that even Russians don't really believe?
A couple of demographics.
83% are women over 50 and more than half have family incomes <$30,000.
Leaving aside the meta-historical bloviations, Jaq's simply wrong that Russia needs nothing from the West.
Russian industry has been dependent on Western know-how and technology since the 19th C, even--one could say especially--under the Soviets. They traded their size, space, and secrecy to the German Reichswehr so the latter could help them develop military-industrial plant, and test new war-fighting theories, in the 1920s.
Hitler didn't revive that when he took over, but after the Pact of August '39 the Nazis and Soviets resumed the historic pattern of raw resources for technology and capital.
After the Great Falling Out of June '41 the Soviets were desperate for any and all Western aid, and the US supplied entire factories on a turnkey basis--factories that made things the Soviets simply could not.
After WWII, the Sovs moved industrial plant from Germany and all the lands in between back to the USSR--largely to Russian-ethnic areas, fancy that--but still needed to make bilateral deals with Western firms for consumer goods, like the Togliatti factory built by FIAT.
The Russian oil and gas industry's dependence on Western tech and management is becoming more clear by the day, and they may well wither away entirely; the idea that China and/or India can step in, either as markets for oil and gas or as suppliers of expertise on the scale and in the time necessary, is laughable.
Whatever else happens, Putin's secret policeman's Weltanschauung is going to cost the world, particularly Russians, dearly.
YASNY.
Why? You can’t pardon for future acts, and the second after the pardon was issued, they will have broken the law again by being here without documents.
