Jon Stewart mocks anti-Trumpers for overdoing their accusations of fascism.

"The constant drumbeat of encroaching fascism will erode the credibility we will need if — hopefully if and not when — it hits. But the truth is that for now, his most objectionable actions have taken place almost entirely within our designed Democratic system.... Look, I really hope that Democrats figure out a way to contain this guy.... How would you use this power?... Tell people what you would do with the power that Trump is wielding and then convince us to give that power to you...  Enough with the 'He's Hitler'...  What would you fucking do?"

Exactly. I love Stewart's reset for the new Trump era.

Ann, if Trump tries to set aside
the Twenty-Second Amendment and extend his presidency past January 2029 will you acknowledge that there was some legitimacy in calling Trump a fascist?

“ Look, I really hope that Democrats figure out a way to contain this guy.” Like making up a hoax that he’s a Russian agent?

That will never happen. That’s just something MSNBC cooked up.

Stewart could merely say: "Look at what Biden did after the election through January 20, 2025 with blanket pardons of his family, last-moment spending and last-moment rules, and last-moment lawsuits. The pot is calling the kettle black."

Were you okay that Obama extended his presidency when they installed Joe Biden?? Because it's obvious that is what happened. Joe had no clue where he was, never mind how to fundamentally transform us to Obama's Progressive Utopia.

It's funny to me, what gullible Progressives are scared of.

The problem is voters reject liberal policies. You need deceit and propaganda for it to work. Your voters have caught on to your manipulations…

The media is unsalvageable. I haven’t heard one apology. I suspect that’s because they aren’t sorry. The infrastructure would have to be destroyed and replaced with something credible- that’s not happening. So they’re stuck with how to leverage their contempt for voters without looking like what it is. They think they’re that clever. They are not…

Temujin said...

Hilarious. I forgot what a great delivery Stewart has. His problem is the same old blind spot. The Democrats just did have all of that power. They put it on display. And Trump got elected to clean up their mess.
But Stewart is hilarious.

If Biden pardons Fauci, will progressives acknowledge that maybe they were lied to about the origins of Covid? Those events actually happened, except the part were progressives acknowledged anything.

Here’s another one. If Biden pardons Hunter and the family, will progressives acknowledge that Hunter’s laptop is real and not Russian disinformation?

Progressives have to get over these persecution fantasies. That's what Stewart was talking about.

Why would Trump stay on? That doesn't make sense for multiple reasons. At this rate, he will have the country fixed by Easter. He can remain influential without being president. He's got JD Vance, who responds well to mentoring and is very talented. He has plenty of other, non-political, activities to occupy his time.

It's great to see the media out of power, along with the Democrats who amplified their power. It was a mutual amplification relationship. Now they both sound and act de-volumed, realizing that the people have pulled the plug on both of them. A beautiful thing to see.

They pulled Stewart-Liebowitz out of retirement to help defeat Trump, and they and he failed. None of this is new material. Maybe he should work on that.

Trump does mostly what men would do with the power. Not as well as Grover Cleveland though because he still needs women's votes.

Grover Cleveland in vetoing the Texas Seed Bill

Though there has been some difference in statements concerning the extent of the people’s needs in the localities thus affected, there seems to be no doubt that there has existed a condition calling for relief; and I am willing to believe that, notwithstanding the aid already furnished, a donation of seed grain to the farmers located in this region, to enable them to put in new crops, would serve to avert a continuance or return of an unfortunate blight.

And yet I feel obliged to withhold my approval of the plan, as proposed by this bill, to indulge a benevolent and charitable sentiment through the appropriation of public funds for that purpose.

I can find no warrant for such an appropriation in the Constitution, and I do not believe that the power and duty of the General Government ought to be extended to the relief of individual suffering which is in no manner properly related to the public service or benefit. A prevalent tendency to disregard the limited mission of this power and duty should, I think, be steadfastly resisted, to the end that the lesson should be constantly enforced that though the people support the Government the Government should not support the people.

The friendliness and charity of our countrymen can always be relied upon to relieve their fellow-citizens in misfortune. This has been repeatedly and quite lately demonstrated. Federal aid in such cases encourages the expectation of paternal care on the part of the Government and weakens the sturdiness of our national character, while it prevents the indulgence among our people of that kindly sentiment and conduct which strengthens the bonds of a common brotherhood.

Does it ever occur to the dems that perhaps NOBODY should have so much power? That the reach of the federal government is way, way too long? That neither party should be employing the legal system to kneecap opponents? That Congress should make laws following proper parliamentary procedures rather than having the bureaucracy in charge of everything?

They always want expanded power for the executive when they're in charge. Do they honestly think the shoe will never be on the other foot? Wouldn't it be better for all of us to live in a country where it doesn't much matter who the president is or who runs Congress because government is small, unobtrusive and constitutionally constrained?

This. You can't accuse liberals and leftists of being unable to sense vibe shift. The secret is that they've been detecting this for a long time, but working overtime to hide it using their mainstream channel controls. Only now - because they can't hide it - are they realizing that their illusion as the "the popular kids" has completely crumbled and guys like Leibowitz and Maher are attempting to salvage any cred they've got.

They will never not be trend followers, and the moment they think they can hide their minority status again, they will ruthlessly return to their old ways. Great comment.

True. How many people know that FDR let British intelligence spy on the American people and play dirty tricks on them BEFORE December 7th 1941. Or that he had the FBI spy on and wiretap anyone he didn't like. Or that he tried to get the Canadian Government to stop selling paper and woodpulp to the Chicago Tribune so would go out of Business? Or that he had the DoJ prosecute 7 Americans for saying writing things he didn't like on charges of "Treason"? (They were all found not guilty by a DC jury. It was a different demographic back in 1944).

FDR was our true fascist president. But the Leftwing, Southern boys, and Big city ethnics loved him, and would've made him Dictator if they could.

The opportunities for China to reorder and rewire trust-centric and stability-centric networks and relationships among countries and enterprises is vast.

China is now the de facto provider of freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The status and stature of the Quad defensive alliance between the US, Japan, Australia, and India is greatly diminished simply by Trump's degradation of the perceived coherence and integration of Nato. The US is now the Unreliable Partner. This is much worse than just being arrogant.

The American Political Class will be viewed as erratic, ignorant, and unreliable for decades after this round of unconstrained Trumpism and its Bible-thumping ethno-centric nativism and jingoism--Kipling in a reality-show format!

The validation of Israeli ethnic cleansing with Trump's calls for coerced migration of Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan takes a bus load of treaties and agreements and resolutions and, well, throws them all under the bus. Every other country in the world has now clearly had validated what many long have suspected: Israel's ethno-nationalist interests rank above all other foreign policy interests in the US hierarchy of interests.

In just one week, Trump's White House has built a Tariff Wall around cosmopolitan and internationalist thinking and tradition in place since the country's founding. It is self-isolating at an unprecedented clip.

Way funnier. Not even close. Stewart does a huge amount of political humor, but he almost always seeks the funny wherever it takes him. He is head and shoulders the best political satirist of our age. Most comedians avoid politics because it's death to humor. Stewart nails it, over and over. Bruce Hayden said...

“ Trump seems to have forgotten all about his daily campaign promise to bring down food prices.”

That’s plain silly. This is his 8th day in office. Biden (and his handlers) had four full years in office. That’s 208 weeks, compared to Trump’s one. And what did we get? Higher prices for most everything. And in food, significantly higher prices.

Harris’ proposed solution was wage and price controls. Silly girl and even sillier anyone who took her seriously. Even a lot of fairly liberal economists were laughing at her (not, of course, Clinton’s dwarf). For good reason. Inflation is almost completely a monetary issue. We got to where we are by the Dems’s massive overspending, funded by money essentially just printed, by the Federal Reserve. They thus significantly juiced the money supply, and, as should have been expected, inflation quickly followed. MV=PQ.

That said, Biden and the Dems did further damage by jacking the cost of transportation by significantly increasing the cost of fuel, by their inane energy policy. And this further increased the cost of eggs and other food items that depend on trucks to get to market.

Trump's big step, thus far, to improve food prices was “drill—baby—drill!” Food has to be delivered to stores by trucks, which are powered by diesel fuel. Reduce the price of fuel, and food prices go down. J.D. explained all this in one of his interviews.

pacwest said...

Once inflation has taken its toll there aren't many ways to bring prices down. Trump is trying to bring prices down by reducing energy prices, which are a large part of cost of manufacture and distribution.
