"The constant drumbeat of encroaching fascism will erode the credibility we will need if — hopefully if and not when — it hits. But the truth is that for now, his most objectionable actions have taken place almost entirely within our designed Democratic system.... Look, I really hope that Democrats figure out a way to contain this guy.... How would you use this power?... Tell people what you would do with the power that Trump is wielding and then convince us to give that power to you... Enough with the 'He's Hitler'... What would you fucking do?"
Exactly. I love Stewart's reset for the new Trump era.

Ann, if Trump tries to set aside
the Twenty-Second Amendment and extend his presidency past January 2029 will you acknowledge that there was some legitimacy in calling Trump a fascist?
“ Look, I really hope that Democrats figure out a way to contain this guy.” Like making up a hoax that he’s a Russian agent?
That will never happen. That’s just something MSNBC cooked up.
Stewart could merely say: "Look at what Biden did after the election through January 20, 2025 with blanket pardons of his family, last-moment spending and last-moment rules, and last-moment lawsuits. The pot is calling the kettle black."
Were you okay that Obama extended his presidency when they installed Joe Biden?? Because it's obvious that is what happened. Joe had no clue where he was, never mind how to fundamentally transform us to Obama's Progressive Utopia.
It's funny to me, what gullible Progressives are scared of.
The problem is voters reject liberal policies. You need deceit and propaganda for it to work. Your voters have caught on to your manipulations…
The media is unsalvageable. I haven’t heard one apology. I suspect that’s because they aren’t sorry. The infrastructure would have to be destroyed and replaced with something credible- that’s not happening. So they’re stuck with how to leverage their contempt for voters without looking like what it is. They think they’re that clever. They are not…
Hilarious. I forgot what a great delivery Stewart has. His problem is the same old blind spot. The Democrats just did have all of that power. They put it on display. And Trump got elected to clean up their mess.
But Stewart is hilarious.
If Biden pardons Fauci, will progressives acknowledge that maybe they were lied to about the origins of Covid? Those events actually happened, except the part were progressives acknowledged anything.
Here’s another one. If Biden pardons Hunter and the family, will progressives acknowledge that Hunter’s laptop is real and not Russian disinformation?
"rehajm said...
The problem is voters reject liberal policies"
Yes, this is the problem for them.
FYI, there are 73 Inspectors General, so Trump got rid of less than 25% of them.
Sure she would, and so would I, but the only folks who think that will happen are the delusional souls who really believe Musk offered a fascist salute. Just because there is a decent case for the legalization of dope doesn't mean one should be constantly impaired.
He will settle for FJB presidency declared null and void and all actions during
Fascism is always falling on america lands in europe gumther grass
Glad to hear it. These armbands are too tight! /s
Truth in advertising on the clip, as the little TDS in the corner can stand for both The Daily Show and Trump Derangement Syndrome. Handy!
A good start.
Progressives have to get over these persecution fantasies. That's what Stewart was talking about.
Why would Trump stay on? That doesn't make sense for multiple reasons. At this rate, he will have the country fixed by Easter. He can remain influential without being president. He's got JD Vance, who responds well to mentoring and is very talented. He has plenty of other, non-political, activities to occupy his time.
Thank you, that is relevant information that I haven't seen in the reporting.
Jon Stewart is talented and astute. He is much funnier when he is attacking the other guys.
If Trump's first-week executive orders on immigration the flow of illegals crossing the southern border to a relative trickle, will dems acknowledge that Kamala was lying when she claimed that this could only be accomplished through passage of the so-called "bipartisan" border bill?
"if Trump tries to set aside the Twenty-Second Amendment and extend his presidency past January 2029 will you acknowledge that there was some legitimacy in calling Trump a fascist?"
OK, and if he doesn't, will you acknowledge that all of the talk about Trump's being a fascist threat to democracy was all just dishonest leftwing claptrap?
More than they already have? The irony is that they,(progressives) don't know how close they came to blood in the streets.
The bug-eyed lefties can always turn to copious weeping on Instagram. That should mobilize voters. So much winning. So much moisture!

It's great to see the media out of power, along with the Democrats who amplified their power. It was a mutual amplification relationship. Now they both sound and act de-volumed, realizing that the people have pulled the plug on both of them. A beautiful thing to see.
They pulled Stewart-Liebowitz out of retirement to help defeat Trump, and they and he failed. None of this is new material. Maybe he should work on that.
Trump does mostly what men would do with the power. Not as well as Grover Cleveland though because he still needs women's votes.
Grover Cleveland in vetoing the Texas Seed Bill
Though there has been some difference in statements concerning the extent of the people’s needs in the localities thus affected, there seems to be no doubt that there has existed a condition calling for relief; and I am willing to believe that, notwithstanding the aid already furnished, a donation of seed grain to the farmers located in this region, to enable them to put in new crops, would serve to avert a continuance or return of an unfortunate blight.
And yet I feel obliged to withhold my approval of the plan, as proposed by this bill, to indulge a benevolent and charitable sentiment through the appropriation of public funds for that purpose.
I can find no warrant for such an appropriation in the Constitution, and I do not believe that the power and duty of the General Government ought to be extended to the relief of individual suffering which is in no manner properly related to the public service or benefit. A prevalent tendency to disregard the limited mission of this power and duty should, I think, be steadfastly resisted, to the end that the lesson should be constantly enforced that though the people support the Government the Government should not support the people.
The friendliness and charity of our countrymen can always be relied upon to relieve their fellow-citizens in misfortune. This has been repeatedly and quite lately demonstrated. Federal aid in such cases encourages the expectation of paternal care on the part of the Government and weakens the sturdiness of our national character, while it prevents the indulgence among our people of that kindly sentiment and conduct which strengthens the bonds of a common brotherhood.
If he doesn't set it aside, Once Written will never acknowledge it. Everyone already knows this.
obviously, a President CAN'T just try to set aside a Constitutional Amendment..
as President Biden showed us; The ONLY way to change the Constitution, is by an Official Executive Order
Politico Biden declares the ERA the law of the land
remember?
Feck this mewling, supercilious knob. Clown 🤡 nose on… clown 🤡 nose off.
I only know Dr. Phil from his regular appearances on Kill Tony.
Suddenly everybody likes John Stewart !
Trump RAN on the very issues that the left seems to find 1) surprising and horrifying. Thus the left acknowledges they did not listen and hate when a majority of voters support the other side.
One of the great statements in presidential history, by the other president elected to non-consecutive terms. That veto was in his first term, incidentally.
It's clown nose on again!
Oh boy, the stupidity is strong in this one
Stewart's a funnier version of Bill Maher, someone who can at least see some of the absurdities and hypocrisies on the left, but can't quite escape the bubble. I was half expecting him to splice in footage of the MSM reaction to Biden's pardons, or to his declaration of the 28th Amendment, but that was a bridge too far, apparently.
To, 100% of working folks, and at least 90% of the rest, the opinions of John Stewart are equal to the opinions of the strange guy that walks down the road, waving his arms, and talking to the air. I'm really surprised anyone would actually pay attention to him, or consider it important enough to write about.
Does it ever occur to the dems that perhaps NOBODY should have so much power? That the reach of the federal government is way, way too long? That neither party should be employing the legal system to kneecap opponents? That Congress should make laws following proper parliamentary procedures rather than having the bureaucracy in charge of everything?
They always want expanded power for the executive when they're in charge. Do they honestly think the shoe will never be on the other foot? Wouldn't it be better for all of us to live in a country where it doesn't much matter who the president is or who runs Congress because government is small, unobtrusive and constitutionally constrained?
For Democrats and liberal talking heads you can't get on TV unless you are willing to speak in panic hyperbole. "He's worse than Hitler!" "J6 was and insurrection and the biggest threat to 'our democracy' since Fort Sumter!"
Only DEI dumbshits on college campuses are buying this bullshit anymore. And they don't even really believe it.
Enough with the 'He's Hitler'...
After nine years of Trump being called Hitler, Stewart say's enough is enough. Whatever.
This kind of story has me thinking about Preference Cascades. How much of it is just people following the obvious trend. How many of them would be just as happy turning in their neighbors for Wrongthink, and mocking and ridiculing the brave few who stand up to point out government lies?
Okey dokey. Stewart is as funny as ever. Which means never. His eyebrow raise always gets screams of laughter though. No one has funnier eyebrows. Or less wit.
No that's too harsh. Stewart is funnier than the Late Nite Talk show hosts. Incredible as it may seem.
And after 8 years of snarking about Trump fascism Stewart's now backtracking. IS it because of Israel-Gaza or a possible tax cut?
@Once Written: In four years when your stupid assumption doesn't happen and JD Vance is the GOP nominee for President will you acknowledge you've had your head up your ass for a full twelve years???
Palestine isn't a country. The so-called Palestinian leaders have agreed to that. Stop lying - oh leftists.
"This kind of story has me thinking about Preference Cascades."
This. You can't accuse liberals and leftists of being unable to sense vibe shift. The secret is that they've been detecting this for a long time, but working overtime to hide it using their mainstream channel controls. Only now - because they can't hide it - are they realizing that their illusion as the "the popular kids" has completely crumbled and guys like Leibowitz and Maher are attempting to salvage any cred they've got.
They will never not be trend followers, and the moment they think they can hide their minority status again, they will ruthlessly return to their old ways. Great comment.
MSNBC is ridiculous. I guess only desperate hive-minders would tune in. It's that embarrassing. MSNBC = emotional hot garbage.
You should turn off MSNBC. It's rotting your brain.
narciso - the Gunter Grass quote is a favorite of mine. Here is the exact story. https://assistantvillageidiot.blogspot.com/2013/01/revel-to-wolfe-to-volokh.html
Yep. Never any mention of Biden's ruinous puppet presidency. No mention of Biden's family pardons. No mention of Biden's record number of pardons. No mention that Biden gave George Soros and family a medal of honor. and on and on...
Jon Stewart really is talented. No one does that format of comedy news as well as he does. Most others who try fall into the trap of saying things that the audience will agree with politically or ideologically to get cheap applause. Stewart actually uses humor. I feel like both Stewart and Bill Maher are trying to persuade or guide the Left to be less overboard. It is a tough needle to thread because there is only so far away you can move from the zeitgeist of the Left before, folks on the left will feel like you have become a traitor and dismiss everything you say.
The pen-flip at 19:20 is awesome.
Again - no mention of being forced to deport so many illegals - BECAUSE BIDEN ILLEGALLY LET THE ILLEGALS IN.
That's crazy talk.
We had a fascist President. He was elected four times and put natural-born American citizens in camps.
When people admit that, I'll take this fascism stuff seriously. It already happened.
It shows more selfawareness than usual for grass
Speak for yourself.
Biden tried to put his political opponents in Jail. He was angry at Garlad for not prosecuting Trump earlier and imprisoning him so Biden/Harris could remain in power. Biden forced 25000 NG troops to protect him from the American People when he was sworn in. Biden = true fascist.
BTW, Stewart had one funny line in response to mad-cows "Trumps actions are Authoritarism 101", he said "I knew I should have taken that class instead of submissive Liberal crying 101".
“You know who used to leave his Christmas tree up all the time? Hitler.” ☺️
True. How many people know that FDR let British intelligence spy on the American people and play dirty tricks on them BEFORE December 7th 1941. Or that he had the FBI spy on and wiretap anyone he didn't like. Or that he tried to get the Canadian Government to stop selling paper and woodpulp to the Chicago Tribune so would go out of Business? Or that he had the DoJ prosecute 7 Americans for saying writing things he didn't like on charges of "Treason"? (They were all found not guilty by a DC jury. It was a different demographic back in 1944).
FDR was our true fascist president. But the Leftwing, Southern boys, and Big city ethnics loved him, and would've made him Dictator if they could.
It should be noted that Ann has no problem with Trump stating multiple times now that the 22 Amendment might not apply to him. Ann would have gone apeshit if Obama had said that.
But, Cruel Nutrality.
Turning on/turning off theme so far today. Turn off the federal grants. Turn on the Cali water. Turn off answers that embarrass China. Turn on Jon Stewart.A time to cast away stones (Turn Turn Turn)
Why would that be “facist”. It would be politics wouldn’t it. It was created because fdr kicked it for so long. Politics.
The Dems already showed us what they would do. Electing Trump is the American people's response.
The ones yelling "Fascist!" the loudest fail to note that they are anarchic or communist in ideology, and that they are vile and deserving of contempt and removal from power. Motes, eyes, beam, there is an old epigram in this somewhere.
It's bullshit to blame the founders for the amount of power the President has. The President's power and the power of the federal government has been increasing at an accelerating rate for 250 years. The Dems are responsible for the majority of that, but certainly not all.
Look at the last 4 years alone under the so-called Biden Administration. The Dems got drunk on their power grabs. The GOPe was just happy to be at the party.
How many of them would be just as happy turning in their neighbors for Wrongthink, and mocking and ridiculing the brave few who stand up to point out government lies?
And to censor and silence them. To imprison them.
The opportunities for China to reorder and rewire trust-centric and stability-centric networks and relationships among countries and enterprises is vast.
China is now the de facto provider of freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The status and stature of the Quad defensive alliance between the US, Japan, Australia, and India is greatly diminished simply by Trump's degradation of the perceived coherence and integration of Nato. The US is now the Unreliable Partner. This is much worse than just being arrogant.
The American Political Class will be viewed as erratic, ignorant, and unreliable for decades after this round of unconstrained Trumpism and its Bible-thumping ethno-centric nativism and jingoism--Kipling in a reality-show format!
The validation of Israeli ethnic cleansing with Trump's calls for coerced migration of Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan takes a bus load of treaties and agreements and resolutions and, well, throws them all under the bus. Every other country in the world has now clearly had validated what many long have suspected: Israel's ethno-nationalist interests rank above all other foreign policy interests in the US hierarchy of interests.
In just one week, Trump's White House has built a Tariff Wall around cosmopolitan and internationalist thinking and tradition in place since the country's founding. It is self-isolating at an unprecedented clip.
Why does this feel like Berlin February 1, 1933?
Because you are an idiot - Kak.
"Oh no, a Hollywood star is crying on camera. Quick, burn the Constitution!"
Okey dokey. Stewart is as funny as ever. Which means never.
Stewart is hilarious. That clip had me laughing out loud in multiple places. He's mocking the shit out of the left. If you can't find the humor in that, I don't know what to say. His liberal audience is cracking up, too, that's how awesome that is.
Stewart is funnier than the Late Nite Talk show hosts. Incredible as it may seem.
Way funnier. Not even close. Stewart does a huge amount of political humor, but he almost always seeks the funny wherever it takes him. He is head and shoulders the best political satirist of our age. Most comedians avoid politics because it's death to humor. Stewart nails it, over and over. And while he's more likely to skewer Republicans, he goes after Democrats, in front of liberal audiences, and wins them over. That's pretty amazing.
"His fucking Christmas tree is still up."
It does rather appear that what Mussolini was pleased to call "fascism", in a symbolic reference to the Roman Empire, was in fact the tendency of all 20th-Century governments to take control of the immense powers created by the industrial Revolution and the accompanying rise in population. Communism, Nazism, Fascism, the New Deal ...
"What would you fucking do?" Open the border, restore green subsidies and mandates, bring back DEI and trans policies, double down on lawfare, increase deficit even more than GOP, hamstring Israel, look for more foreign policy successes like Biden's. On second thought, might as well go with fascism mantra.
"We're the pussies and he grabbed us."
Progressive conditions, Diverse judgments and labels, evolutionary corrections.
Trump seems to have forgotten all about his daily campaign promise to bring down food prices.
Democrats think Fascism is anything that threatens their hold on power. Tangible power they hold when sitting in the WH, and the embedded power from their long march through the institutions. Which is certainly under attack right now. That they don't see how close they were to being actual Fascists is frightening. Only Trump's victory kept them from full implementation.
I loved what he did to Chuckie Scheamer, who essentially glitched. He was talking along, lambasting Trump, then abruptly stopped, then started up again, repeating what he had just said, verbatim.
kaky - Biden jacked up food prices with his and his democrat party non-stop wasteful inflationary spending. But keep up the hivemind economic illiteracy.
It's funny to watch you leftists tow the current lie-machine BS.
John Stewart does a 10 minute shtick pointing out the idiocy of Lefties screaming "Hitler!" at every new Trump policy announcement, and this commenter can't wait to shout "I resemble that remark!"
See the New York magazine photo Ann posted two after this one. What young adult wouldn’t have wanted to have been invited (by a Black conservative activist, cropped out of the photo for political reasons) to that party? Good looking guys, mostly in tuxes, and beautiful women in evening gowns.
LLR-democratical Rich: "Trump seems to have forgotten all about his daily campaign promise to bring down food prices"
LOL
According to the islamic-supremacist allied New Soviet Democraticals, like kak, food prices were never up.
So his rhetorical ploy is sure to work as well as all the others!
“ Trump seems to have forgotten all about his daily campaign promise to bring down food prices.”
That’s plain silly. This is his 8th day in office. Biden (and his handlers) had four full years in office. That’s 208 weeks, compared to Trump’s one. And what did we get? Higher prices for most everything. And in food, significantly higher prices.
Harris’ proposed solution was wage and price controls. Silly girl and even sillier anyone who took her seriously. Even a lot of fairly liberal economists were laughing at her (not, of course, Clinton’s dwarf). For good reason. Inflation is almost completely a monetary issue. We got to where we are by the Dems’s massive overspending, funded by money essentially just printed, by the Federal Reserve. They thus significantly juiced the money supply, and, as should have been expected, inflation quickly followed. MV=PQ.
That said, Biden and the Dems did further damage by jacking the cost of transportation by significantly increasing the cost of fuel, by their inane energy policy. And this further increased the cost of eggs and other food items that depend on trucks to get to market.
That was actually funny
And he was a wealthy oligarch. History doesn't repeat but it rhymes. A dozen public and 100 private oligarchs want us to be their pawns.
Trump stating multiple times now that the 22 Amendment might not apply to him.
You got a link for that? Is it the same one where he told you to inject bleach?
This is Stewart's version of "stand down and stand by". You don't want to rally the troops for a gaggle of undocumented sex offenders. Not a percentage play. Hopefully, some day ICE officials will arrest some woman who will have a heart attack and die in ICE custody. Then we'll see how closely our immigration policies mirror those of Nazi Germany's towards the Jews......I thought Stewart line about AI putting AI out of a job was pretty good. He's a professional comedian, and delivers his lines with the proper timing. Still, like SNL, his humor is notable chiefly for the targets that aren't mocked. Has anyone yet made a joke at the expense of Karen Bass?
"Has anyone yet made a joke at the expense of Karen Bass?"
It is what it is. What difference, at this point, does it make?
Trump's big step, thus far, to improve food prices was “drill—baby—drill!” Food has to be delivered to stores by trucks, which are powered by diesel fuel. Reduce the price of fuel, and food prices go down. J.D. explained all this in one of his interviews.
Once inflation has taken its toll there aren't many ways to bring prices down. Trump is trying to bring prices down by reducing energy prices, which are a large part of cost of manufacture and distribution.
