“If we were crushing it [at health], we would not be spending 2x every other country in the entire world and have the lowest life expectancy of any developed country in the entire world.”
November 16, 2024
"The words 'chronic illness,' as far as I know, never came out of the Harris campaign's mouth. And I think that was a real misstep..."
"... because Americans are, I think, tired of being gaslit about the fact that there's not a problem right now. And when we look around us, we know there is. And Trump has asked RFK to do three simple things. He's asked to get the corruption out of the U.S. health agencies, produce uncompromised evidence-based research for our health guidelines, and reverse the trends of the chronic disease epidemic in two years for children and adults so that we can show up for our 250th anniversary of America stronger than ever. That sounds pretty good to me."

The left playing dumb.
This is all about grift and big-pharma dollars.
produce uncompromised evidence-based research for our health guidelines
Somehow in all the talk about sharks and electric boats, I missed where the Trump campaign called for this. RFK Jr certainly doesn't believe believe in "uncompromised evidence-based research".
Diversity, obesity...
RFK, Jr.’s sister denouncing him and pledging to ostracize him from the family for his political views is one of the ugliest things I’ve seen on the internet recently.
I love how you think "big pharma" is going to be brought down in a Trump administration where the number one priority seems to be stripping all the regulatory agencies of their power and eliminating regulations. Heck, we have Trump telling oil executives that if they contribute $1 billion he will let them do anything they want.
If that isn't soliciting a bribe, I don't know what is.
You don't even bother to read the comments on this blog, do you?
"...so that we can show up for our 250th anniversary of America stronger than ever."
The country needs a good motivator.
Heck, I'm concentrating on loosing weight before my high school reunion in couple of weeks.
I think Trump just found his Surgeon General.
Why didn’t Maher have her as a guest have her as a guest before the election. Everyone jumping on the Trump train now. Which is how we Trumpies like it. Get on board. Party like it’s 2024.
@Freder. You spend too much time here locked in a battle of wills. Find something else to do.
Freder - we don't love your delusions and BS.
In my bitter experience, it's probably too late to work on the weight for high school reunion . . . but it's never too late to work on word choice: "loosing" vs
"losing." At least your high school English teacher will be impressed, whatever your success with the diet.
remember!
you always (ALWAYS!) Need to wear At LEAST 3 masks..
you Need to vaccinated At LEAST 3 times..
you WILL get COVID At LEAST 3 times..
you WILL trust Big Pharma and Big Government..
you WILL!
you WILL!
you WILL!
ronetc? i think (i WANT to Think) that Wince was concentrating on reducing the weight of All Those 'o's
In cults, isn't one of the first things they do is get you to disassociate yourself from your family? All this talk from the left about cutting ties with loved ones certainly sounds like a cult.
Absolute pants-messing fear in the opposition shouldn't be the only reason for cabinet appointments. Though I must admit, it's a good reason. Can any of the Senate drones even land worthwhile hits on RFK Jr? Don't count on it. I'm sure he relishes a chance to jab hard at their sacred cows. He'd be well advised to talk to Vox Day and get some countering statistics.
The Democrats - in concert with the media - just forced us to listen to Fauci as if he were a god - and get an useless and potentially harmful MRNA vaccine - that was never properly studied or vetted.
Remember this creepiness.
Wait a minute... a woman doctor? Now I've seen everything!
No, hold on. I haven't seen Commander Freder be correct yet. Still waiting for that.
Comforting.

rontec, while my high school English teacher may take issue with my usage, your high school physics teacher may take issue with your assertion that one can "lose" weight rather than "loose" into a larger system ;-)
Law of Conservation of Mass-Energy:
This fundamental principle in physics states that the total amount of mass and energy in a closed system remains constant, even if it changes form.
Einstein's Equation (E=mc²):
This equation further connects mass and energy, showing how mass can be converted into energy and vice versa, reinforcing the concept of conservation.
"preverse the trends of the chronic disease epidemic" Accepting the diagnosis for the sake of argument, it's not Big Ag or Big Pharma or Big Gov that's the primary cause.
Freder - we all guess you did not watch the clip. Stay loyal hivemind, Fred.
The loser left are going down with the Joke MSNBC /Maddow sh*t show ship - and the toxic racist ladies on The View, titanic.
Devout Freder cannot bring himself to watch the clip provided. No free thinking allowed in Fred/Leftist devotional world.
I’d say positive changes in policy, while the disloyal opposition soils itself for our amusement, are a win-win.
It's interesting how feminized RFKJr's appeal is. Vaccines are icky; they're putting stuff right into your body. Chronic illness is totally a real thing. The government is going to save us from big business. I guess it fits with the whole Camelot thing.

The number one chronic disease is obesity. People are too damn fat, and cheap food tastes too damn good......Video games, porn, cheap delicious food. Such fare is more likely to produce a fat ass rather than character. We're on Lotus Island......Well, there are worse worlds. No one in North Korea struggles with obesity or porn addiction.
'Cept for Little Rocket Man.
Wouldn't RFK need regulation to alter what Big and and Big Pharma do?
Leaving things to the free market got us this food system. Is Trump willing to go all EU and regulate the food industry to stop producing these products with a whole raft of rules?
I am sure Elon and Vivek will love that lol, but the Deep State is going have a lot of chairs at that trough.
Lightweight crank endorses heavyweight crank.
ronetc, et al. Re: comments addressing loosing v losing, this is a quite amusing treatment of grammar (& spelling?) checking....

Again the focus is on boogie Men and conspiracies. Read Dr. Means book good energy. It's really quite simple adopt a Mediterranean type diet that includes plenty of protein, fiber Rich carbohydrates, healthy fats and live fermented foods. Lift weights live on your feet and use your body.
They probably do too many vaccines on children now. They've added a bunch since I was a kid.
Plus, during COVID, it became known pretty quickly what the profile was of people most at risk - age, obesity, diabetes. Yet Fauci et al never stressed that enough to people and thereby encourage everyone to improve their diet and exercise regimens. Cuz it wasn’t putting them at risk just for COVID, it was putting them at risk for any rsv. That should have been on billboards everywhere imho.
Freder is mad that the Nazi garbage racists say mean things to him.
Ignorant crank shouts at clouds.
Freder makes a great point.
One side really doesn't want to have an actual discussion about this issue and is constantly bringing up non-sequitur arguments and gaslighting.
Vaccines are, and always have been, an improvement on the odds of survival versus an illness, not a 100% preventative with 0% possible side effects. Polio and smallpox are horrible enough that vaccination cannot be denied as beneficial. So are other common childhood diseases, from measles onward, because the vaccinated have a much lower % bad results than the unvaccinated who get the diseases. There will always be some negative effects from vaccinations, from lack of prevention to allergic responses or worse, but this is one area where collective outcomes are rationally more favored than individual choice.
Freder is of course a stupid liar as usual.
The government protects vaccine manufacturers from liability. The government forced everyone to buy their vaccine. The government created the patent laws to protect big pharma. Government regulations force small pharmaceutical companies to sell themselves to the big companies. The government only gives research grants to favored companies.
The giant international pharma companies only exist because they are protected by the government and the regulatory agencies they have captured crush their competition.
It is interesting how defenders of our health care system can't be honest about anything.
I guess it fits with the whole being a tool thing.
He would have to change regulation. There will always be regulations. The question is what results those regulations lead to.
Right now our health care system is completely corrupt and that is a result of the current regulations and the incentive system in place.
It is time for the corrupt fraud of the food pyramid and the cholesterol hypothesis to end.
Vegetable oil, wheat processed and whole, and grains are poison to us. We do not have the GI tract for those foods.
Statins are poison.
Humans belong in ketosis. We are not cows.
That is because our health care system wants us fat and unhealthy.
4.5 trillion in health care spending annually happens for a reason. That could easily be more than halved by putting everyone on a keto diet.
Then you missed RFK Jr.’s many appearances with and without Trump outlining the MAHA agenda. Normal as in non-leftist people are very concerned about Big Science in many fields veering away from the scientific method. Beyond that why does Big Pharma enjoy immunity from the harm their fake vaccines do? Because Congress gave them immunity to stop the nuisance lawsuits over imaginary mercury poisoning. But they took advantage and started classifying all kinds of unnecessary drugs as “vaccines” just to escape culpability. That’s why we have “vaccines” now that are not durable and effective and it needs to stop.
How are you planning to put everyone on a keto diet?
I suppose you also plan to stop alcoholics from poisoning themselves?
Definitely the realm of small government!
America is $35 trillion in debt, the big government just showed us how inept they are, and can be, but let's stick to the status quo forever.
There will be footdraggers. Let the games begin.
Well Achillies, I have it on good authority that he is our resident dumbass. "Freder Frederson
You don't even bother to read the comments on this blog, do you?"
Not yours obviously. For the aforementioned reason.
I agree. It's really pretty simple.
She says US life expectancy is 10 years less than that in Japan, which got me wondering what the life expectancy for Japanese Americans is. I did some quick googling on it.
For Japan*, I find women have a life expectancy of 87 years and men 81 years. For Japanese Americans**, I find a rounded up life expectancy of 90 and 84 for women and men, respectively. Those are only single studies, and I didn't read through enough to get a good idea of their methodologies. Regardless, my point is be careful comparing dissimilar subject cohorts.
Still, it's always worthwhile keeping your health in mind. I think Howard has a good approach to it, though there's a recent study casting doubt that "blue zones" are really the result of poor record keeping and pension fraud rather than any special diets. The Studies Show podcast did an episode about it (thanks, Assistant Village Idiot!). That said, the Mediterranean diet sounds much more appealing than fast food every day.

I'm not in agreement with Kennedy on most things. And if he tells us what he thinks is healthy and what is not, that's fine.
As long as he does not use the power of the federal government to tell us what we must do, we'll be OK.
I don't think "revers[ing] the trends of the chronic disease epidemic in two years for children and adults "is possible 'in two years' because the goal is multivariate and amorphous. Even if correct changes were made on Inauguration Day, it would take much longer than two years for detection of reversed trends. But the effort should be made anyway.
I have a lot of bad things to say about Michelle Obama. But living among obese kids in SE Atlanta, I saw positive effects from her “Let’s Get Moving” campaign. Sure, some of it was graft to set up fake health food storefronts in “food deserts,” but the brief classroom exercise minutes helped these neglected kids physically and mentally. And teachers too.
Sadly, her husband’s crime policies are a big reason why these kids couldn’t be safe while simply walking outside.
If RFK Jr. just finds some way to reduce public obesity, he’ll have earned the right to lop off a couple more dead whale heads. Maybe they can set some benchmarks in his contract.
I didn’t take or so jackshit and traveled extensively all over er the country and southwest Mexico. Nuttin. Absolutely nuttin.
I didn’t take or so jackshit and traveled extensively all over er the country and southwest Mexico. Nuttin. Absolutely nuttin.
Inflammatory chemicals in our diet and medicine, body fat that does not follow from dietary fat, sedentary convictions that motivate storage rather than metabolism, malnutrition in bulk, and quantity disproportionate to need.
"Vaccines are, and always have been, an improvement on the odds of survival versus an illness." That makes no sense. If you die from the vaccine, that is not an improvement on the odds of survival against an illness. If you get an injury that is worse than what would be caused by the disease, that is not an improvement. Maybe there's a typo in there somewhere?
"The vaccinated have a much lower % bad results than the unvaccinated." Maybe. I'm willing to believe that, but the real question is "How much?" It's a straightforward mathematically tractable question. We should be able to look at data that shows exactly how much benefit we get compared to how great the risks are and make a value-maximizing choice (although that's easier said than done. How do you balance x cases of measles-caused deafness against y cases of vaccine-caused anaphylaxis or Guillain-Barré?).
The thing is, the "public health community" should have this data at their fingertips and should be able to blow RFK Jr. out of the water with it, but instead of solid data, we get "How dare you question us!" and ad hominem attacks. That's strange, right? Why not just roll out the numbers?
And why in God's name do we test new vaccines for safety not against placebos, but against the previous iteration of the vaccine? That makes absolutely no sense, especially because if you do this enough times in a row, you can have developed really serious problems that you couldn't see in any single comparison: if your new vaccine has a 1% worse safety record than the previous one you will might not pick that up due to statistical noise. But if you string 10 of those together . . .
Tell people the truth and they will do it on their own.
As an octogenarian, I suffer from chronic anachronism.
